10. Michonne Kicks Back with Some Zombie Pals at the Prison Gate — Michonne’s arrival at the prison sets up a fun last couple of episodes of the fall half-season. Will Michonne lead Rick and the Gang back to Woodbury first, or will Glenn and Maggie lead Merle and the Governor to the Prison first? I hope it’s the latter so that Rick and Michonne have home field advantage.

Sometimes slow motion reveals the details put into a show (like the decapitation scene) and other times it shows the sloppiness (those decapitated body parts that look deflated.) Well, the episode was a keeper though with so much drama, blood and guts. Andrea and the Governor’s romp in the hay, and Rick talking to the dead and don’t forget Carol is alive. Since I love the show so much, I have the previous seasons on DVD and I was telling my DISH coworker how expensive it is to buy them. He suggested I get a Hopper DVR from DISH, since it has 500 hours of HD recording time, so I can store all of the shows from now on. That’s exactly what I did and now I watch them multiple times, when previously I would have had to wait for the DVD to come out at the end of the season.

I think they will try to soften up Michonne’s character on the show. She will join the group and tell Rick what she just saw and they will have a common enemy. Seeing as how badly tortured Glenn gets next episode I’m not sure how soon Rick and the gang will get there, also something fishy is gonna happen with Merle and Maggie, if there is any raping I think it’ll be Merle who does it, not the governor… after all he’s got Andrea and I think something even more terrible will happen to her later on…..

I was glad to see Hershel was smart enough not to confront Rick on his madness, and that it’s now over so we can move the freakin’ plot along.
Carol had to be alive so that there was some kind of tension between the brothers when Merle suggests offing everyone.
Carl continues his upward climb from annoyance by simply being there and not doing anything stupid. I like his scene of mutual mommy issues with Daryl.

Regarding all of the “How did Michonne find the prison” comments:
Are we now assuming that the Zombie Apocalypse resulted in the destruction of any and all street signs?
Experience tells me that prisons are usually pretty easy to find. They tend to be off major highways with private drives and a ton of signage telling you how far and on what side of the road they can be found.
This is not some magical netherworld that no one is familiar with. It is Georgia, with zombies. I mean hell she could have ducked into a Chevron and grabbed a road map. Do you really feel the writers should have devoted episode time to that scene?
Hell for all we know the prison is in what could be Michonne’s home town.
Also Michonne over-heard Maggie say “it’s basically a straight shot to the prison from here.” Based on the way their car was parked, their body language and yeah ROAD SIGNS, I can’t imagine it was ANY trouble finding the prison.
Speaking as someone who lived near one prison, and had a father who was a guard at another, there’s LOTS of signs to let you know you’re near a prison, just in case. In case of a breakout. You know how it is.
I can buy that she would find the prison, just not that quickly, especially if you take into account that she was shot.
So, did the Governor badge trump Michonne as the top one? I just went from Daryl to Michonne without getting the Gov.

I totally get why Andrea would want to stay in Woodbury. Who wouldn’t? What I can’t stand about her is her incessant need to prove she’s one of the cool kids. “I don’t want to do laundry, I want to kill zombies like you guys”. “I don’t want to be a worker bee, I have to be with the Governor, like it’s going to the prom with the quarterback”. Hell, even when she’s talking to the archer girl on the wall, she’s trying to prove how awesome she is, how she’s got it all figured out, but we all know she’s just pathetic.

I was kind of upset when Rick snapped out of it at the end. I was hoping he would keep talking to the people on the phone and descend into madness. Would have been nice for him to just start being completely fucking nuts and getting advice and information from the voices in his head.
Also, I know the zombie guts bath works as camouflage against the biters, but it still seems kinda dumb for Michonne to be hanging out in the middle of a hoard of them as she walks up to the prison fence. I mean, seriously, why would you just be THAT CLOSE to them. Surely you can like hang out and walk a little ways away from them as you approach the fence.
Eh, the whole phone storyline got really tiresome in the comics. I would rather that they had just ignored it altogether, but at least it seems like they got it over with in one episode.

I think both groups are gonna meet up soon, and the gov. can’t die soon (if he does die this season it’ll be for the season finale, episode 16) so maybe Merle dies first.

I think Merle is more like the comic’s Governor.
My two biggest beefs: Michonne’s ninja trick of running off into the distance, then dropping into the middle of the group like 5 seconds later. I’m pissed when zombies sneak up unexpectedly despite all evidence to the contrary that they can be silent, and I’m equally pissed when humans pull of some nightcrawler shit.
Second, how the fuck Merle managed to take down Maggie and Asian guy I wish I was so I could be nailing Maggie. They had two guns pulled on him and he still manages to get them off guard! He just screamed and they flipped the fuck out! Asian dude I could see being hesitant about shooting him, but Maggie was all about killing this crazy redneck right from the start. She should’ve cherry-pied that hick’s brains all over the street.
Michonne had enough time in the woods to set the trap, it’s not like she ran out ahead of them, cut a zombie up, then got into the trees while they were directly behind her. she had quite a head start, set up the biter-gram (which was a trap) and climbed a tree.
Maggie and Glen haven’t killed anyone. Rick’s the only one with human blood on his hands (except maybe Daryl?), and Glen knows Merle is Daryl’s brother. There would be no reason to shoot originally, and even when there was those two characters would need to be pushed the furthers to kill a living human.
They clearly saw her running in the trees ahead of them and that’s when Merle started to shout. I know she set up the zombie-gram beforehand. But there’s literally nothing else that could’ve been running the trees. Zombies don’t run, and there’s no evidence there were other people out there.
As for Maggie and Glen, they’ve got no problem killing zombies, the things that give so many people pause before killing them because they present characters with moral quandries about killing something that looks like someone they love becoming a monster. I don’t see why killing a human, especially a human they didn’t know at all (via Maggie), and threatening them would be such an issue.

Exactly. He never should’ve gotten to that point. There’s two people, pointing guns at him. His is in his waistband. They don’t drop their guns beforehand. They don’t even lower their weapons. He doesn’t catch them unaware. They’re looking at him with suspicion. Even the guy that knew him is suspicious and alert. So how the fuck does he get the drop on them when he’s gotta reach back and pull his gun? They don’t even shoot back.

Great episode. I liked how Michonne showed disgust when the guts came pouring on her after she had cut the zombie open. She has seemed so hard, it was nice to see her show another side.
I’m still a little surprised how much hatred Andrea is getting. She’s just following the golden rules of prison. You need to kill someone or be somebody’s bitch. She chose the latter and is now safe, as she is the first lady of a safe town. That’s some mighty fine politicking.
I didn’t care for Merle overtaking Glenn and Maggie. Both are natural born killers at this point. I know Merle is a level 10 boss, but, c’mon.

Michonne – Shot in leg… Zombie guts fall onto her yet no chance of any getting into the wound? So no Zombie Michonne?
That’s probably the biggest problem with this show. They don’t take any care at all to avoid blood and gore splatter, it shoots into their faces and wounds, you see them kissing eachother on places that have zombie blood all over it, but they’re always fine. One bite, you’re fucked. A gallon of zombie blood, drink up!

You raise a good point I have thought about before. With the number of zombies being gruesomely killed and splattered all over the place (usually by someone screaming with their mouths wide open) how has no one gotten any sort of sickness or infection? IF their bite leads to an infection and death how does getting covered in, and presumably ingesting, their blood and gore on a regular basis not lead to some sort of plague like outbreak?
@Shawn Well they haven’t really followed the rules of the comics exactly, and the comic rules are pretty shaky at that, but the way I consider it is like venomous animals. A cobra bite will kill but getting splattered with cobra guts doesn’t really cause death. Everyone is already a zombie-in-waiting remember? A zombie bite doesn’t actually turn a person zombie. There isn’t an “infection” to catch per-se. A zombie bite only kills the person by creating an un-healable wound that doesn’t clot. Maybe zombie mouths are just so full of bacteria from all the dead stuff they eat, like a komodo dragon?
Well yeah I might be thinking too 28 Days later or whatever. But I guess I am over thinking it. But I thought the Zombie bite slowly killed the person like in season one.
Yeah, Merle taking them may have been a little too convenient, but at least it moved the plot forward.

He kept trying to radio Lennie James’s character throughout S1. He’s already established a precedent for using dead communication devices as a psychological crutch.

“Eau de Undead” – Rick and Glenn also tried the “dress up in zombie entrails” trick in season one. Oh, the things Michonne missed out on by being a bad ass lone rider out in the Zompacalpyse. She’s smart in that she figured out that disabled zombies kept them away, but the whole “Everyone is Infected” and “Zombie Blood” camo would have been good things in the intellect arsenal. I wonder what other neat tricks we don’t yet know because none of the characters on the show have shown us. (Haven’t read the novels, so I don’t know if there is more. For all I know rubbing peanut butter on their mouths just leave zombies doing that constant-chewing thing that dogs do.)

I don’t think her issue has anything to do with a man to protect her or sit beside. Her thing has always been wanting to feel capable herself- as well as have other people go, “Why Andrea, you really shot well today!” She was the female action figure last season, now it’s Maggie.

I was so happy to see her with that basket of formula at the gate. It took that woman a huge leap of faith to assume that she wanted to go find the group. I bet it had as much to do with her hatred of Merle as anything alturistic about wanting to get formula to an infant she didn’t know.

I like that they’re letting Carl get over the whole “I shot my mother in the head” thing quickly as opposed to droning on and on about it for a whole season. If only they could have done that with the sophia story

Michonne is the type of person to lurk outside of your little village and kill people one at a time until only you and her are left. Then she slices you open from the bottom up. I mean it’s not like she has anything else to do.
Except she’s clearly not, because she’s not only walking in the other direction, but also leaving a message to say not to follow her. The more I think about it, the less sense that scene makes actually…
The Governor has to be in control, and Michonne refuses to be controlled, so she has to be destroyed.

she has been on the run for about a year right? the world as she knew it is over right? she ran into a mysterious women in the woods wit 2 walkers on a chain and a katana blade, and she followed her for 8 months right? so why is that any crazier than staying with the governor?
i think we need to understand that after all that time going thru all that heartache and pain this would seem like the obvious choice and i’m sure most ppl would choose to stay in woodbury rather than go out in the woods.
i’m guessing rick is going to want to stay in woodbury if he ever gets there. i’m guessing everybody would except for michonne. u say that makes her smart?
i’m sure we will see the gov truly bad intentions sooner or later, but for now, andrea is making the best decision she can be the 1st lady of woodbury.

i’m mad that glen didnt shoot merle but i understand how shooting merle would possible mean losing daryl from the group. daryl eventually learned to forgive rick and he probably still has hope that his brother is alive. but if glenn, who will probably be honest, tell daryl that merle showed up and they had a stand off and glenn shot first, well daryl would probably leave the group.
the best part of the show will come when daryl and merle reunite. i feel that merle kept daryl from being social and loved by others, cuz merle is so lonely and miserable himself. when daryl is telling his story to carl, i think he said something about him being able to have friends when merle wasnt around.
so when they reunite, will daryl leave his friends for his brother, cuz we know merle wont be going back to the group.
that moment will be the greatest moment in TWD history. merle cant die unless daryl kills him like shane and rick.
Andrea is terrible. At first I could see where she is coming from for wanting to stay, but when the person who has kept you alive for 8 months says it is time to go, it is time to go. The writing (or the acting) on the show portrays her as weak and in need of a man to make herself whole. IF she is playing him she is doing a helluva job cause she just comes off as a love sick puppy dog (“I hate the fighting”…”You like the fighting?”… “I like the fighting too.”)
Rick may be off his damn rocker, but the writing is on the wall in Woodbury and I dont think he is going to want to stay there any longer than it takes to spring his people.
Regarding Glenn and Merle. Daryl should have been a non factor. Shoot Merle in the face get in the truck and go home. No need to tell anyone you even saw Merle.

Michonne’s the kind of girl who hides in the woods watching until she sees what’s what. She sees a guy carrying a baby, she figures these must be the people Glenn and Maggie were going back to. Which means that A) she has trade goods and B) they have an enemy in common.
Not convenient at all. Just simple. She overheard Glenn and Maggie’s conversation so she knew there were people at the prison. When they were grabbed she took the formula and made her way to the prison. She sat out there until she saw the survivors come outside, then she approached the fence. Pretty easy to make her out from the Walkers since every African American Walker is now a tad on the pale side.
Well, she did seem to have a bunch of formula with her as she was standing behind the fence.
Billybob’s comment makes logical points. Paul’s comment leaves open the big gap in logic here- how the hell did Michonne know where the prison even was? Pretty good guess. (And no, she wasn’t easy to make out because she wasn’t a “pale” African American walker, I’m pretty sure we’ve yet to see a walker carrying a grocery basket, or anything for that matter. So, despite looking like hell from being wounded and walking presumably very far while injured, it was pretty dang obvious she was human.)

This is not some magical netherworld that no one is familiar with. It is Georgia, with zombies. I mean hell she couldve ducked into a Chevron and grabbed a roadmap. Do you really feel the writers shouldve devoted episode time to that scene?
It’s just amazing how far the show has come from last years “Let’s just set around on a farm and look for a little girl” season.

Lots of moving parts to last nights episode for sure. But I love how Michonne shows up at the prison with groceries.
” I accidentally got your friends kidnapped, but here’s some formula and a duck. We cool?”

Let’s see how trusting Rick is with her. Maybe she can share the cell block with the two prisoners.
Seeing how she brought Rick formula for his kid, when she didn’t have to, I think he’ll be a bit more open to her. Also, she wasn’t a prisoner.

Rick has been hyper vigilant about “threats” to “his group”. She doesn’t just show up with baby formula when needed, but with solid info on a very big, real threat. He’s going to lap that up faster than Judi-er-Little Ass Kicker drinks her formula.
Hopefully Michonne gets bite soon, or dies while trying to kill the gov.
