Future lead singer of a happy hour tribute band Guy Fieri appeared on NBC’s Today to defend his restaurant after a particularly scathing review by the New York Times went viral yesterday. I took an iPhone video of the interview (hence the mediocre sound and why you can see pumpkins in the bottom half of the screen), which you can watch above, or just know that Fieri’s response to the take down was: “You’re welcome.” (Via)

Guy fucking Fieri.
His publicity people have sat him down and told him that all attention is in his own interest so he should just roll with the punches because there are many more people who love and adore him and its just the ones who have a media platform blowing the perceived hatred out of proportion.
He’s a willing punching bag because money.
Hearing the word “ridiculous” come out of that face. So delicious.
“That review was definitely NOT money”.
Loved how Guy was saying how he’s a chef…..
doubt many chefs serve shit sandwiches…
i understand how guy can say the review was slanted… but that doesn’t explain all the bad reviews on yelp…… get a clue.. you’re a mouth piece at best.. not a chef.
on second thought…. would like to see Guy and Bourdain fight in a cage match…
that shit would sell like hot cakes…… pun intended!
I generally think people are way too mean to Guy Fieri, because he’s goddamn hilarious as is and he’d be much less entertaining if he was less of a self-parody. But it bugs the fuck out of me when people over-pronounce the Italianness of “Fieri.” Dude, you don’t have to say “fee-EDDy”. Motherfucker’s name is “Ferry.” You don’t get to change your name then make people speak Italian in order to pronounce it. That is on a whole other level of pretentiousness, especially for a guy who’s so down home country gravy.
If he read the review completely, he’d see that Pete had some good (or at least not-bad) things to say about some of the dishes sampled. And while the format of the review (seriously? Nothing but questions? See what I did there?) lends itself to criticism of the review, a more straightforward review likely could be boiled down into: A few decent dishes, many bad dishes, poor execution, poor service. And while Guy may take issue with Pete’s denigration of the type of dishes served, he probably should be wary of the execution and service issues. A restaurant that serves non-haute cuisine can thrive in any locale, including Manhattan, but it has to nail the execution and service. Bad food + bad execution + bad service = bad restaurant.
The thing about the review is that the critic name-checked Calvin Trillan and supported Fieri’s ostensible mission: to celebrate down-home American cuisine. His bile wasn’t over the type of food, but how bad it represented a rich culinary history.
I’m just waiting for the internet backlash where Guy is turned into a hero for the people and his food is genius. Yeah…I’ll be waiting.
he’s either reading what she’s about to ask or reading what he is supposed to say during the interview because every time she asks a question he looks down at the table for a few seconds while she’s talking
