Turns out my therapist was right: the world isn’t ready for a show starring Terry O’Quinn as Beelzebub.
[ABC] is choosing not to move forward with Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue, TVLine has confirmed.
Despite a recent order for two more scripts apiece — traditionally seen as a vote of confidence — neither series will receive a back-nine pick-up, meaning both series will end after 13 episodes. An ABC rep tells TVLine the network is planning to air the remaining hours in their entirety.
Both freshman dramas had struggled to maintain an audience. Thursday’s Last Resort, which reportedly was an important factor in whether or not the series would receive a full-season pick-up, saw a slight ratings drop to 5.8 million total viewers and a 1.3 demo rating. Similarly, last Sunday’s 666 Park earned only 4 mil/1.3, matching the previous episode’s series low. (Via)
666 Park Avenue also had much of their New York-based set ruined during Hurricane Sandy (they were under six feet of water the night of the storm), so if ABC did pick up the show, everything would have been rebuilt from scratch. By Satan’s unholy minions of the night…or as they’re known in The Biz, TEAMSTERS. Yeah. Shawn Ryan’s Last Resort was the better of the two shows and therefore its cancellation is more distressing, if only because now Scott Speedman’s gonna have to go back to the streets, beginning for pennies while his screams of, “I WAS ON FELICITY” fall on deaf ears. As for 666, well, Rachael Taylor is really pretty, so there’s that.

Don’t cry, Rachael. Just remember that you’re not Scott Speedman.

i really like Last Resort, this sucks
Andre Blaugher is (was) the best part of it. I hope he gets on another good show that lasts a while this time.
Last Resort was pretty good. Hopefully they will be able to wrap up a few loose ends before it ends, but my guess is that wont happen.
CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES
You said, T-Dog.
Suffocation, no breathing.
I thought Last Resort was doing good in the ratings. Guess not. Hopefully they can find a way to wrap it up, or not, I wasn’t super invested in it. Last Resort was an interesting show, but it really didn’t have enough meat in it’s plot to make for a TV Series. It would have been a good movie or TV mini-series, but as a full fledged TV serial….. No way.
With Last Resort, it was almost like they went into production with half a story;
Ptichman: “Ok, so this high-tech sub and it’s crew disobey orders they don’t trust, they get attacked by their own people and then they take refuge on a remote island.”
ABC Suit: “Sounds great, then what happens?”
Pitchman: “Uhhhh………. We’ll figure that out later.”
ABC Suit: “Eh, close enough, lets do it! By the way, are you related to JJ Abrahams?”
It had respectable acting in it, so like I said, I hope they can bring the story to some sort of close, but I’ll forget this was ever on my DVR a week after it’s off the air.
So are they just going to end “Last Resort” with a bunch of explosions. Like the end of “Dr. Strangelove?”
I see no alternative.
If it is anything like the last two episodes, it will end with all the navy guys being kidnapped for some reason one or two at a time.
Like this.
I’ll take it.
The two shows I thought about checking out at the beginning of the season but decided not to.
I liked 666. I also liked the new Night Stalker show. So just keep shitting on me, America. I understand we have different tastes.
Terrible news. Last Resort is fantastic.
