Back in July Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan expressed interest in having the team from Mythbusters examine the plausibility of some of the show’s notable science-y things, specifically this season’s magnet-based caper. Three months later, he is getting his wish. Sort of.
EW has learned that the Discovery reality series — in which everything from urban legends to Hollywood scenes are scrutinized in the name of science — will put AMC drug drama Breaking Bad under the microscope with an episode that includes appearances by star Aaron Paul and creator Vince Gilligan. “We’ve been wanting to do a Breaking Bad episode for awhile,” says Mythbusters host Adam Savage. “Obviously there’s a lot of fertile material to play with, so things that happen on the show have been ending up on our list of stories to tackle for a couple years now. And when Vince said in an interview that he’d love to see a Mythbusters/Breaking Bad crossover, we reached out to him directly and the response was overwhelming positive.” [EW]
The episode, which is set to air this spring and will presumably feature Aaron Paul saying “WOW!” a lot, will focus on two experiments based on events from the show’s first season, including one about dissolving a body with hydrofluoric acid. Now, I imagine some of you read that last sentence and said to yourself, “Holdonholdonholdon, I thought you said they were gonna do the magnet thing,” to which I would like to reply that I AM GETTING TO THAT JUST GIVE ME A MINUTE. GEEZ.
The Mythbusters gang had actually planned to do a third, but the other two turned out to be so “meaty,” they opted to save it for a possible sequel episode. “There’s easily one more if not a couple more Breaking Bad [inspired] episodes,” says Savage. “Those guys have been so much fun with technology and science that there’s a lot that we could do with them.”
YEAH, BITCH! SEQUELS!

I wanna see stuff explode! Get me some Etch-A-Sketches and Ice packs!
I want to watch this episode RIGHT NOW!
Hydrofluoric acid
i think adam wants a reason to cook meth on tv
Yeah Mythbusters! Yeah Science!
It was hydrofluoric acid, not hydrochloric acid, wasn’t it?
Yeah, I just fixed it. I got a C in Chemistry.
Not that I’ve melted down any corpses or anything like that….
“Would Sklyar have actually drowned in that little amount of time? We put her to the test”
I want to see if they can jump start The Bounder with that chemical battery that Walt made in the 4 Days Out episode. Also lots and lots of Acid myths please.
I’m assuming they are holding off on the magnet experiment for a time that better fits into Insane Clown Posse’s busy schedule.
As long as they can also provide tips on why covalent bonds keep my meth from cooking properly.
