Last night Sunny took a stroll down another self-referential path with “Charlie’s Mom Has Cancer,” calling back to the Season 1 classic, Charlie Has Cancer. Kurp speculates this must be the final season because of all the nods to the show’s past. I tend to believe we’ll just end up referring to Season 8 as “The Callback Season” like we refer to Season 7 as the “The Fat Mac Season.” There simply wasn’t enough transvestite action for me to believe this it. A few notes before getting to the Sunniest Moments:
- Raise your hand if your forgot Charlie and Mac’s mom still live together (before the promo, that is). Or how about the Juarezes living in the mansion? I love the dichotomy between the continuity for peripheral characters and the gang hitting the reset button on their own personal relationships after every episode.
- Wasn’t sold on the Diddy guest spot (because Diddy) but from the moment they intro’d him with “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” I was reminded that the only times I’ve enjoyed Sean Combs since No Way Out is when he’s acting. “Dr. Jinx: The man with a band named after himself.”
- So Silver Linings Playbook is really going hard after that Philly demo, huh?
- I’m always kind of thrown off by episodes where Charlie is the reasonable one. It’s like eating breakfast for dinner.
- It’s official: Skinny Mac breaks out Fat Mac’s Tommy Bahama shirts for formal occasions.

Dr. Jinx Is Just A Little Bit Unorthodox
Diddy’s first scene gave us the aforementioned NKOTB intro, Mac, Dennis, and Charlie realizing they think of anything but black when they think “doctor” (“Hell yeah that’s racist”), Cosby Show viewing in Mac’s house, and Sailor’s Rot (“I’m not a sailor, Dr. Jinx!”). All in all I have to deem it a success. Oh, you want feelings…

Definitely the best episode this season, maybe even of the last couple.
The return of Artemis was great, albeit, not nearly long enough for my taste.
Diddy playing “The Right Stuff” on bass while staring dead-eyed at Dennis had LOLing. When Diddy owns it, he owns it.
Mac (or any of the gang, really. But mostly Mac) explaining/being involved in anything religious is always thoroughly enjoyable.
Another stellar episode in an already ridiculously stellar season. For that reason, I’m hoping it’s not the last.

I think Dennis’s slow burning facial expression during the bass scene was amazing. This season has some of Dennis’s best moments ever.
Weren’t Frank and Dee planning to dig up his whore ex-wife right after she died to get her jewelry? Guess they never went through with it.

Also Dee’s reaction to digging up the “dead dog” toupee was one for the ages. GD… Kaitlin Olson is funny.
she has the best reactions and is great at physical comedy.
Frank digging up his dead wife just to get back at Dennis and Dee may have been one of the lowest moments of the show. And this is coming from an episode that had the SECOND occurance of someone lying about cancer. I love this show.
I was more than impressed with Diddy. I have no love for people who build their fortune off the back of their dead friend, but sometimes he just nails it.
I think the key to a good Diddy performance is the Diddy Dead-Pan stare

I remembered that Charlie and Mac’s moms had moved in together, but I had no idea that they were still living together. I always thought it was just a temporary thing for some reason and assumed Mac’s mom moved out at some point.
Charlie has been killing it this season, it’s nice to see him as the semi-reasonable one for a change, like in season 1
Charlie has been the best for years, which is really impressive when you consider how all over the map he is.
I think we can all agree that Frank is by far the worst human being on the show after last night. And Dennis is the worst realistic human being on the show.

Diddy was pretty good in Get Him to The Greek. I’ll give him that.
I can’t stand his music or his real-life persona, but I kind of like him as a comedic actor. I liked him in Get Him to the Greek, Made and now this episode.

This episode felt like a 22 minute build up to one joke and THAT JOKE WAS ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT.
The appearance of Artemis a week after I complained about no Artemis pleased me greatly
Now we need the return of Brittany Daniel.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Dee and Dennis’ real dad made another appearance the way this season’s going.
The lawyer is by far my favorite recurring character, though. If they brought him back every other episode it wouldn’t be enough for me.
I’m really pulling for Charlie’s Uncle to make an appearance. He makes everything, and everyone, so uncomfortable
Are we ever gonna find out if Charlie is actually Frank’s son? That’s the real question
I like to think of Charlie as being immaculately conceived or the seed of someone really famous/important.
Dennis’ speech was also fantastic. “I wanna talk about faith. It’s not about whether something is true or based on fact or reality or the laws of physics or nature or even basic common sense. It’s about whether or not we’re dumb enough to believe in it that matters.”
And Charlie on religion: “You’re telling me that you believe that Christ comes back to life every Sunday in the form of a bowl of crackers and then you proceed to just eat the man. Good good good, this is what we’re dealing with.”
The most terrifying thing after the speech: “Dennis that was fantastic!” “I didn’t mean it.”
The Gang has to be the most wonderfully despicable people to have ever graced the small screen.
It’s like if Lindsey Lohan, Ashton Kutcher, Dane Cook, Scott Stapp, and Bill Belichick had a little more humanity.
