In a recent interview, Chevy Chase said that he hated Community because “the hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.” He’s wrong: the lowest form of TV is reprising an old movie character, in this case Clark Griswold, in an Old Navy commercial for “pop pants,” which he has, somehow bastardizing the Griswold name even more than Vegas Vacation did. I grew up with Chevy being funny as shit. I was too young to appreciate him on SNL but I got him full force for Fletch, the National Lampoon series, basically his late 80s movies which were the vehicles that endeared him to the public.
Is this whole community spat enough to erode all of that appreciation? It’s like he spit mountain oysters in my face.
Spies Like Us, man. Movie still kills me. Now it also sort of depresses me.
I loved Spies Like Us.
“Who’s finger?” Come on, that’s great.
Funny Farm is the worst movie I can’t help loving.
It’s just a testament to how good he used to be. These days, it’s really hard to look past his bad attitude, although it’s nothing new. We just all know about it now.
Doctor. Doctor. Doctor. Doctor.
I really like vegas vacation
Me too.
Wallace Shawn makes that movie.
Commercial needs more Steve Martin…in a black and white sombrero.
Too bad Steve has standards.
And doesn’t need next month’s mortgage payment.
I like the D’angelo and Lewis substitutes there. Also I thought the banner picture was Pierce performing “fake heart attack.”
At least they got Beverly D’Angelo on board. For consistency.
Beverly = New Pierce.
I have to imagine that wearing those pants will give you all the cancer.
He’s really over acting in that one.
they should’ve kept his character as the lame baby boomer trying to still be young and cool with a little racism and sexism instead they flanderized him into this evil racist old man and he lost his charm. The same thing happened to Abed, I still have not forgiven Dan Harmon for all that Imaginarium/evil abed bullshit from last season.
So streets behind.
I’m glad to hear that Chevy Chase is off Community. I think, based on his behavior over the last year or so, it should have happened sooner. My coworker at DISH and I both hope that with Chase’s departure that Dan Harmon might come back as the creator of the show. When it does come back in February, I’ll watch it on my DISH Hopper, thanks to PrimeTime Anytime. It will automatically record the shows from the four major networks during prime time. I don’t have to remember to set a bunch of individual timers to record shows like Community. I think the big question now, is this: how will they write Chase out of the show?
