As someone who was essentially raised by a television set, and who spends a large percentage of his waking hours watching television, I’m a huge fan of the TV Theme song. The old, the new, the bad, the good. It’s an art, the theme song, and often it’s those theme songs that exist in our minds long after the show has left the air. There is no easier way to inject yourself with nostalgia than a big honking shot of TV Theme songs.
It’s also fun to hear those favorite theme songs in different forms, by different bands, and sometimes in different styles, so for sh*ts and giggles, I spent the morning browsing through YouTube to come up with live versions of 15 of our favorite theme songs. It should be a fun way to kill a few minutes during your lunch hour.
The Brady Bunch Theme — Soulfully, by Jamie Foxx
The Justified Theme — Performed by Gangstagrass, Who Perform the Actual Theme
Growing Pains Theme — Performed Beautifully by Horrible Douchebags, Chris Daughtry and Dane Cook
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air — Performed by Ingrid Michaelson

That’s a good cover of “Sanford and Son,” but it’s no New York Philharmonic.
I SAW THAT EPISODE. I AM AWARE OF THE CULTURAL RELEVANCY!
Seriously though, if more orchestras committed themselves to shows that featured more television/film content I would be present more often than not.
Needs more Archer
Yeah Dustin, you shoulda tossed in that high school band’s rendition of Archer that (I think?) you guys posted a while back.
I’m no face doctor, but I’m 100% sure that guy is not Tom Waits
Im no voice doctor either but Tom Waits is American.
Its Paul Strummer not Tom Waits in the video, Its even titled Tom Waits Cover by Paul Strummer.
I like the Alicia Keys one better than Ezra…
That’s not The Office theme, it’s something called Drake and Josh instead. It’s definitely a dorm common room though.
Is this a joke?

the friends theme by miniature tigers. one of the best bands around, so do something about that.
The Wire theme isn’t a theme song. It’s just a song they used. Just like “Who Are You?”
isn’t a theme song even though it’s the song used for CSI: Original Recipe.
holy crap how the hell is that singer for Guster part of a professional band? that was painful.
Yeah, I think even I could’ve sung it better than that. I’ve heard some Guster, and the guy usually has a pretty nice voice; hopefully that’s some sort of replacement singer, or he’s just sick or something. Although I haven’t heard them live, so maybe the guy’s voice really is that bad.
well they have two singers i believe, and i’ve heard some stories about one of them being really bad live. i guess we’ve found the culprit.
I stopped reading after Dane Cook.
I have not said this in a long time, but it seems appropriate to say it here.
Bring back Matt!
Lots of good stuff; that Psych one is especially awesome.
He screwed up The Wire theme song. “If you walk with Jesus, you better watch your soul.”
