Up to this point, AMC’s only forays into the comedy world have been middle-aged woman pissing their pants on Small Town Security, early morning reruns of Nacho Libre, and January Jones’s acting on Mad Men. But the network is slowly beginning to develop original comedies, including one about that traitor, Paul Revere.
AMC is heading to Colonial Boston for a comedy project, now in development. Titled We Hate Paul Revere, it is written and executive produced by Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner (Whitney). It centers on two brothers living in Colonial Boston who are not fans of local industrialist and activist Paul Revere.
Sandler and Wenner have been writing and performing together since meeting at Northwestern University. Their play Epitaph, directed by Betsy Thomas, won awards at the HBO Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe festival. After establishing its original brand with drama series, AMC has been quietly looking to expand into comedy. (Over the past two years, the network successfully added unscripted programming to the mix.) AMC is yet to pick up its first half-hour scripted series. (Via)
In boldly naming their series We Hate Paul Revere, Sandler and Wenner are competing with What’s the Worst That Could Happen? for the most ironically apt title of all-time. It’s Martin Lawrence’s proudest achievement. Anyway, just be glad this won’t be on CBS; “does anyone have a light?” could have been the next “BAZINGA.”

Topical.
I can’t wait for A&E to counter-program this with Thomas Paine Can Eat a Bag of Dicks.
There’s no question who has to play the lead character.
Thank you for not disappointing me when I scrolled to the comments just for this.
Wait, Paul Revere was a traitor? And from looking at the painting of Paul Revere, Jack Black will be playing him, right?
The premise is so bizarre it almost HAS to be funny, right?
Whitney writers aside, I am completely okay with AMC developing any non-Small Town Security.
Nice try, but Fat Betty is and always will be the funniest thing on AMC. Ever.
…Bambalam?
I had that song stuck in my head for months because of Mad Men.
It started way back in history
With Adrock, MCA, and me, Mike D
Yes. First thing I thought of. If we don’t get this for the theme song, we should riot.
Just slightly off-topic, but “What’s the Worst That Could Happen?” was a hilarious Donald E. Westlake book before it was a (presumably, I never watched it) shitty movie. As were just about all the other books Westlake wrote, it’s worth climbing through the throngs of homeless people at your local library.
Yeah, because “Thanks” did so well.
Although watching them try to pass off some Colonial theme park as the North End of Boston will be funny.
Hey, let’s make an American Downton Abbey!
Wait a minute, Small Town Security is a real thing? I just assumed it was something made up by The Soup.
This cant be good.
I hope these guys are modern-day Masshole stereotypes.
So basically the colonial episode of Sunny set in Boston?
High-concept comedy; I’m down with that.
I wonder if they’ll try to work in a Palin reference.
