The 2013 Golden Globes nominations were announced this morning, and as ever, it’s a tale of two genres. The drama categories are fine, I guess, filled with love for Breaking Bad, Mad Men (not for Best Drama, however), Boardwalk Empire, and Homeland, though none for Game of Thrones…but then you get to best comedy.
OBVIOUSLY comedy is subjective and the humor in a joke about masturbating until your fingers bleed, for instance, isn’t for everyone, but: *sigh* The Big Bang Theory, Episodes, Girls, Modern Family, and Smash, those are shows that best define “comedy” according to the Golden Globes. The funniest thing about that group is how unfunny they are. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Louis C.K., and Julia Louis-Dreyfus get their love elsewhere, but SMASH?!? Even the show’s creator didn’t like Smash.
Oh wellz. At least we can pretend we’re best friends with Poehler and Fey for a night. Full nominee list below.

Since when is Smash a comedy??
Golden Globes combines comedies and musicals as categories for some perplexing reason.
Supporting actor in a comedy is perplexing me even more.
Homeland is HILARIOUS!
Homeland, Magic City, Game Change? WTF?
What Jean-Ralphio said. Is that a typo, or has the Golden Globes committee officially lost their shit?
It’s horrible to think Ron Swanson could even have the ability to be in any way, shape or form, associated with something as ear bleedingly, facepalmingly bad Smash. Comedys and Musicals go together like church and state.
Supporting TV roles aren’t divided between comedies (and musicals!) and drama. All balled together for one award because ACTING.
It’s a comedy how shitty it is.
I had the same reaction… maybe they’re being ironic, and reward unintentionally funny shows now.
Also can all award shows stop puttin AHS in “mini series”, it’s the same fucking number of episodes a GoT!
I figured you’d be apocalyptic about the lack of love for The Dink.
Well, GoT and Dink get their love at the Emmys at least. But this AHS mini series shit is in every award shows and it pisses me off to no end. Also, AHS sucks.
Season two is pretty great, in a really terrible way.
I’m sticking with American Horror Story = True Blood – Boobs.
Except that this season may have squeaked past True Blood in the category of throwing everything but the kitchen sink in as plotlines: A demon/fallen angel, an angel of death, possession, aliens, murderers, a serial killer, mutants via scientific experiments, nazis, whatever the fuck that thing was on the ceiling in that one episode that’s never been mentioned again…
Wow.
At this point, is it at all possible that the HFP just confused “Smash” with “Glee” and nominated the wrong one?
Note: Not that I think ‘Glee’ is deserving.
Nothing surprising here, aside from American Horror story being listed a miniseries? Also, Louis CK’s show is called “Louie”.
They did that last year, too. It was Ryan Murphy’s sneaky way of winning awards in a category nobody cares about.
And if you want to be depressed about what real people are interested into, here the most talked about shows on Facebook : [www.facebookstories.com]
Besides GoT and Downton Abbey, it’s absolutely terrifying… I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
Rick from Walking Dead didn’t get anything? His reaction to Lori’s death was some of the best acting I have ever seem. Oh, Newsroom? This is poo poo. Straight up potty.
Not positive but I think that episode has to be submitted for next year due to when it aired.
seen. Dammit.
Either way, my cats and I are pissed. No Game of Thrones, either. This is all a joke.
No love for Peter Dinklage or Justified?
Can we start a write in campaign for Boyd?
Boyd and Charlie Kelly will never get their due.
Dwarves were SOOO last year. This year it’s all about honoring pretentious arrogant nonself-aware douchbags. The Newsroom should sweep!
I think at this point NBC is paying Golden Globes/Emmys to NOT nominate the shows that the internet likes so as to not draw attention to P&R and Community.
Can we just scrap all award shows forever?
Fuck it. Let’s riot.
That’s a pretty strong Best Actor field. Buschemi bitches!
Mandy Patinkin…Holla!
It’s basically “reward all the things that have been mentioned on the Huffington Post lately”.
Not all of them. That article about NATO’s sense that the Syrian regime’s power was crumbling was totally snubbed in “Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series – Drama.”
I’m trying to be outraged, but I really can’t. The Golden Globes do this every year. Like death and taxes, I’m resigned to the fact that horrible things will be rewarded, while deserving things will be snubbed.
Why do people like watching shit so much?
Nothing for Justified?! NOTHING FOR JUSTIFIED?! I have everything!
Not enough Sherlock love
Word. The writing in Political Animals was not good, and Hatfields & McCoys was… boring, to say the least.
Replace Newsroom with Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead. Newsroom is not even is the same league as these two shows.
What is the difference between Actor, TV Drama and Best Performance by an actor on TV, Drama. Same actors, same shows, why two awards? Im confused.
I assume Best Performance is for a specific episode, but they aren’t mentioned in this article.
Did Justified bang the Emmy’s wife or something?
Golden Globes. Goddamnit.
Who in hell thinks “Smash” is a comedy???!!! I also did not think that “Girls” was particularly funny. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the show, but I did not laugh at it. And “Big Bang Theory” should be cancelled with Sheldon getting shot in the head!
There is a HILARIOUS misspelling in the best actor movie/miniseries, apparently you guys think there is a human named Benedict Cumberbatch!
Who edited this shit?
How is it almost 2013, yet there are still people who piss and moan about editing on blogs?
