Here’s The Trailer For Ricky Gervais’ Mentally Challenged Netflix Comedy, ‘Derek’

That headline could actually use a few more descriptions. “Here’s the trailer for Office creator Ricky Gervais’ mentally disabled, please don’t use the R-word, comedy/drama that already aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom to much controversy, and will make its way to the United States sometime next year via Netflix, Derek.”

Or according to the show’s official website:

Derek Noakes is a tender, innocent man whose love for his job and the people he cares for shines through. He’s 49, adores animals, Rolf Harris, Jesus, Deal or No Deal, Million Pound Drop, and Britain’s Got Talent – but his main hobby is autograph hunting. Derek works in a retirement home with his mate and landlord, Dougie. Derek cares deeply for old people because they’re kind and funny and tell him stories about the olden days. Hannah is a care worker at the home and is Derek’s best friend. She’s smart, witty and hard-working, but unlucky in love, and, like Derek, always puts other people first. (Via)

The trailer’s below, but be forewarned, despite the presence of Gervais (and Gervais’ Hitler hair) and the brilliant Karl Pilkington, there’s nary a laugh to be found. Derek looks like it’s trying to appeal to the same people who own I Am Sam and Jack, and not Extras, on DVD. Still funnier than Life’s Too Short, though.
