If you didn’t like this weekend’s SNL, with host Jamie Foxx, because the political cold open was too tame, that’s understandable. Or if you thought “Bitch, What’s the Answer?” could have used a rewrite or 17 and the Alex Cross/Madea spoof was dated, makes sense. After an underwhelming first half, I thought the episode rebounded nicely in the second, with “Maine Justice,” “Swarovski Crystals,” and “Dylan McDermott or Dermot Mulroney” ranking among the season’s best sketches. But many didn’t make it that far; thousands didn’t even make it past the monologue, if Twitter’s to be believed. How come? Well, to paraphrase, “Most. Racist. Episode. Ever.”
Oh boy. According to the 950:
Singer/actor Jamie Foxx hosted SNL this weekend, and his comments were racially-charged from the outset…Foxx is the man who recently told us that we should “honor” our “lord and savior” Barack Obama. “I’m dressed in all black, cause it’s good to be black. Black is the new white!” Foxx said. (Via)
The article then goes on to quote Foxx’s monologue, which, for those who didn’t watch, went like, “I got a new movie coming out, Django, check it out…Django Unchained, I play a slave. How black is that? In the movie, I have to wear chains. How whack is that? But don’t be worried about it, because I get out [of] the chains, I save my wife, and I kill all the white people in the movie. How great is that? And how black is that?”
Very, and Django is going to be the sh*t. Just don’t tell that to any of these idiots.
I watch SNL every week, have done it since the Belucci years, but last nights show was the worst ever. What a disgusting racial rant againt whites last night. Cool to be black ?? Fool I say.
I will never ever watch SNL again! I used to really like J.F, but he has become such a racist piece of crap! I cannot believe his opening monologue was allowed!
worst SNL since I started watching in 1976
the opening racist monologue with the obvious canned laughter makes me think the crowd wished they could turn off the show like I did. Lorne Michaels insulted us with this continual downgrade of what used to be a staple of a culture
The worst SNL ever.
Been a fan of the show since the late 70′s, even through the ups and downs, but I have to say that was the worst show ever. Was looking forward to Jamie Foxx but the show wasn’t funny and the opening monologue just sad. Is that what they are calling comedy now?
I have to agree with Kim. It was the worst monologue especially with his “how black is that” quote over and over. He reminds me of someone else that uses race to divide the races.
This has been my favorite show for 20 years. That was the WORST display I have ever seen last night. I was disgusted. VERY poor taste and the only thing funny was the news. I’m no longer a Jamie Foxx fan. SNL please don’t let that happen again. Don’t bring him back.
Should have taken Fox’s comment as black being the new white as a warning for how the show was going to be, way too black for this white guy.. Worst snl ever, hope it isn’t the new trend..
The man that calls Nobama lord and savior I will never spent another dime to see him in anything. If you call yourself a Christian and support him shame on you. Funny or not he is not worth it.
I could only stomach the first 10 minutes of that POS. I turned the TV off in disgust. I’m officially boycotting the Jack off’s movie. He hates white people so much, he’s not getting any of my money.
F*ck Jamie Foxx and his racist bullsh*t. This is why we have racism, because of sh*tbags like him and SNL giving him a place to promote his hatred. We need more street justice for this kind of sh*t.
Terrible show! Racist Jamie Foxx was horrible as a host and actor. The writing sucked too. I can’t wait for Paul McCartney next week. He should make it a civilized and worthwhile show.
Of course that guy can’t wait for McCartney, and maybe Bing Crosby’s Corpse next week! Checking out the comments on SNL‘s Facebook page, where many of the above quotes were taken from, is cringeworthy at best, makes you hate the world at worst, but I’m curious: has a late-night host/guest ever swayed your decision to see the show, album, or movie they’re promoting? Everyone who’s accusing of SNL and Foxx of being racist is claiming that they’re going to boycott Django, which opens on Christmas, but I doubt they were going to see the movie in the first place (and if they did, they’d likely be upset that Foxx doesn’t spend the entire thing in chains).
White people are the worst. In other words, take it away, Foxx.

(Via 950)

I think the problem is that it wasn’t funny. Racially charged funny stuff is ok. When it isn’t funny then it is just racially charged. I have never found Jamie Foxx to be that funny. However, he has made some decent movies and I will be going to see Django.
Even if you don’t find it funny you should at least be able to understand when someone is ATTEMPTING a joke and avoid being a pantytwisted bojo.
I agree, Race is still a funny topic when it is actually well written and funny. Calling Jamie Foxx a racist for making fun of racism itself, not being black, just seems ignorant. He was playing on the idea of racism’s core which is the power of superiority. He was saying he was “better” than white people to be funny, unfortunately it was not funny. But yes an attempt at a joke not hatred of racism haha.
I will be seeing Django for sure this has no effect on that.
Ah, the Belucci years. Those were the days.
Yes, they were.
I knew I probably shouldn’t click on that at work. But then, once I did, I couldn’t unclick it, so you know that tabs staying open all day.
I’ve been Belushi rolled.
Agreed HuhSJ. It either needed to be a lot funnier than he delivered it or he needed to tell it in a more over-the-top/tongue-in-cheek way so that it didn’t come across as him believing what he said
Being pro-black doesn’t mean you’re anti-white. It just makes it way more fun.
I agree. I mean, if he really hates white people as most of the comments from the article claim, he wouldn’t have agreed to do SNL in the first place, movie to promote or not. Someone who is truly racist would not want to be around that many white people.
But being pro-white does automatically mean you’re anti-black, according to you libtards.
Don’t put words in my mouth and I’ll keep my dick out of yours.
Tell me I’m wrong, dumbass.
**unzips fly**
You would be 100% better with 50% fewer teeth.
@Royal: Even using the word “Libtard” automatically makes you wrong. About everything. So go step in front of a speeding bus and yell it that it can kill you and it won’t.
Shadowtag, you would make an awesome Jewish grandmother. Go ahead and buy an odd number of 2 dollar bills to give to neighborhood children.
Digi-bread and Shadowhag… ah, the civility of the left. Commit sodomy and then suicide because someone called you a libtard. Ha! But remember the joke, little bitches: Why is arguing on the web like competing in the Special Olympics? Because win or lose, you’re still a retard. Or, libtard in your case.
And BTW, Jamie Foxx IS racist. Have a day.
Haha, awesome Citizen1911. Too stupid to realize that Shadowtag is talking shit about the left.
**pats head**
You go sign yourself up for some more one-off accounts. Have fun. Enjoy your hatred. Mean words hurt us liberals! Swear! Ouch! It stings! How will I weather another barb?!?! The Pain!
Usually the choice of host affects me a little bit one way or the other. Most of the time, if I don’t care for the host I don’t watch SNL. In this weeks case I had totally forgotten that the show was even on. But that might just show how bad SNL has gotten lately.
It’s worth pointing out that I wrote all of the comments.
Oh, Burnsy!
It was fitting that Charlie Day made a cameo on one of the saving skits of the episode, because him and his crew from “It’s Always Sunny” probably summed it up best when it comes to material that toes the racially sensitive line:
“If it’s funny it’s not racist, if it isn’t funny, it’s probably racist.”
People sometimes forget that SNL is a comedy show and you should pull the stick out of your ass for best results.
People [in the writers' room] sometimes forget that SNL is a comedy show…
I remember thinking when I saw Foxx was going to be the host that this episode was going to be very “black.” I was right…that being said, I’d rather watch a very “black” SNL than a very “white” one (with host Robin Williams and musical guest Neil Diamond.)
I dunno, the episode hosted by David Duke with musical by The Captain and Tennille was pretty good.
I watched the episode last night and i wasn’t offended at all. I am more offended that it wasn’t a very funny show then anything racial.
whatever scott, you’re a dick
Awesome.
Wow…that escalated quickly
Brick killed a guy! Actually I’ve been meaning to talk to you Brick, you should lay low for a while.
You are worse than all of those people kurp,as HuhSJ said if it was funny it would have been okay but if its not ur just saying racially charged stuff and also the hypocrisy from u is disgraceful.Did u forget a certain post where u accused a reporter of being a racist for mixing up wycleaf jean and will i am
yea, because nobody has ever confused to white artists before
Just dropped by to add the following:
, J . A , , , ‘ yo ‘e , yo yo yo W J . . ?
*applauds kushiro*
Although I didn’t much care for the feeble attempt to black it up with that “yo yo yo.”
I doubt it was the worst episode ever, especially if that commenter really was watching back in the 80′s. But Jamie Foxx hasn’t been funny since he did that “two snaps up” movie review stuff. (That was him, right? All mediocre comedians look the same.)
It was not him. That was Wayans and Grier on Living Color.
Yeah, that was the joke.
His forehead hair is very strange. I think he needs to adjust the way the barber makes those weird little corners since the middle part is too damn high. Weirdest damn haircut I’ve seen.
That there’s the RIGHT reason to be furious
Yeah that hairline was atrocious.
Racist? No. Funny? Meh. I did enjoy the Ding Dong Weekend Update thing though.
I think that the people who were calling the show last night racist are the same ones that consume Fox News religiously and went on tirades when Obama was re-elected, dropping N-bombs left and right. They also have more than likely signed petitions to secede. In other words, Texas. Everyone of them is likely from Texas.
I think Arkansas and Alabama would be more likely than Texas, but to each his own. I think you are correct, though, about the type of people they are: Fox News watching Obama haters.
The best sketch on the show (Dermot) was vaguely racist. Racism is okay in many situations.
For some reason, this makes me think of that Jesus and Tim Tebow sketch and how pissed people were about that. Ridiculous.
His monologue was funny. The end.
When I was younger I had a friend whose parents wouldn’t let him watch In Living Color simply because there were too many blacks on the show. His racist father is probably one of those commenters.
I didn’t found the episode to be racist, but it was definitely mostly “black people humor”, which I usually enjoy (Loved Chapelle Show, Totally Biased is awesome, and Key & Peele have their moments) even if I’m white… but I also thought this episode was extremely unfunny, and I was thinking “it’s not funny for me, so white people who don’t listen to hip hop or play basket-ball must really HATE it”, guess I was right.
The crystal sketch was pretty funny, and the christmas tree pimp digital would have been ok if it was half its length. McDermott/Mulroney was a good idea, but not very well executed imo. But did someone really thought Maine Justice was ANY fun? It was maybe the worst of the night. Even Charlie Kelly couldn’t save it.
Two things:
A) Maine Justice was great. It was weird and it made no sense, but I loved it.
B) Did you really just hyphenate “basketball?”
A) At least we agree that it was weird and made no sense.
B) I’m half French (shit happens), and it’s written like that there, sometimes one language slips in while I write/speak in the other.
FYI, if something makes little sense in English we say, “senseno”. It’s weird I agree.
I liked it. A lot. But then I just moved from New Orleans to Maine and I can’t think of anyone else (except for my friend who moved from Maine to New Orleans, who I promptly sent it to) who this sketch could better pander to. …Unless a voodoo lobster get to it first.
P.S. I’ve known more Mainers to drink moonshine out of mason jars than Louisianans.
Racism is usually defined as views, practices and actions reflecting the belief that humanity is divided into distinct biological groups called races and that members of a certain race share certain attributes which make that group as a whole less desirable, more desirable, inferior or superior. It doesn’t say you have to be white to be a racist.
Careful, Bono. They’ll start on you next.
Terrible episode, I didn’t think anything was racist I just thought it was a bad episode and lacked humor. I think the SNL writing staff hates Jamie Foxx and specifically wrote bad skits to make him look bad because bad skits is exactly what that episode was
Lorne Michaels hates Jamie Foxx because “In Living Color” was a far superior show to SNL.
Because that makes sense for up and coming writers who are trying to move forward in the entertainment industry.
White people…am I right, you guys?
I wonder how these people would react if they knew/remembered the sketch way back where Chevy Chase called Richard Pryor the N word
That was a funny sketch because it was daring and “two-sided”…….racism is funny when done right…….just like rapes….or is it rape jokes….?
It’s “legitimate rape” jokes.
“Rape” rape jokes are a bit more subtle…
Which is why I’m going to corner the market on Rapcist Humor.
Das Rapcess
It is racist to make excuses for racists……so I’ve been told…
To all those who said they were gonna leave the country or want to secede: I’m still waiting…
Yeah, it’s been years since the 2000 election, and they’re still here!
Embed the monologue…..it started out funny-ish and petered out …..
I like the “First Obama term was white…..this term is black…”
I’m black and I thought the monologue was pretty lazy and harmless…and the show itself was pretty decent. It’s pretty disheartening to see white people get all up in arms of over a black man saying its cool being black. White people relax, u guys are still winning, by a lot…let us poke fun…oh and lol #whitepeople –throws race card like yu gi oh–
I think you are ALL missing the point- and that is that Bobby Moynihan’s delivery of “what Jupiter?!?” is the single funniest thing SNL has done in years.
What % of the outraged are furious if Chris Rock delivers that same monologue?
Great question — fifteen years ago, Chris Rock stood on stage in DC and made a joke about crackhead Marion Barry. He would never say anything that audacious today, because he’s decided that he’s a spokesman for black people instead of a comedian. Sounds like Foxx is going that way too.
One difference is that Chris Rock is pretty funny…
If a white comedian said the same thing but switched the races what would the reaction be? If the answer is outrage then yeah, it was probably racist. The end.
That’s what I was thinking. I didn’t really care about what he said but couldn’t help but thinking of everyone freaking out if he races were reversed
Louis CK disagrees. [www.youtube.com]
Racism against whites and raacism against blacks are two different things. The former doesn’t exist and the latter is fueled by 200 plus years of American history. The ‘if a white comedian said it …’ is a pretty ignorant argument. Plus, what Foxx said wasn’t racism because of the context of where he was saying it.
Plus, Jeff Foxworthy. Your argument is invalid. How white is that?
Racism of any type should be treated the same way. Plain and simple. And if you don’t think racism against white people doesn’t exist then your argument is pretty ignorant.
It is extremely disturbing to see people reacting this way to a guy saying it’s cool to be black. It is cool to be black. It’s cool to be white. It’s cool to be Asian. They’re all cool. It’s just not cool to hate someone for what they are. It’s not all that hard to figure out.
Bingo!
It’s not that cool to be Asian.
I’m sure you wouldn’t immediately be attacked for saying it’s cool to be white on sites like this.
It is, however, not easy being green.
To call the first half of the episode bad would be an understatement. I almost never turn off SNL, but I walked away after “Bitch, What’s the Answer?” Bad bad bad. Now that I’m reading the second half was good, I’ll go back and watch it, but the first half? It was offensively terrible, nothing more.
I’m just shocked this many people still care about Saturday Night Live.
I’m just here to laugh at racists on the internet.
Cant we just go back to the 70s style SNL where only the white women were degraded on television instead of the white men too? I mean come on!
If you find yourself toeing the line of defending comments that include “cool to be black? fool i say” it probably means you’re racist too.
I disagree with Kim.
I think someone already said this, but whatever — I literally didn’t enjoy the episode because I just didn’t think the jokes were funny. Which is massively disappointing considering how great Jamie Foxx is! The monologue was, in my opinion, pretty funny. I like that he showed he was a man of many talents when he plopped in front of the piano and sang Birthday Song. But the sketches? Ughhhhh.
UGHHH.
WHAT.
WHY.
They were so so boring. I want to love SNL every week, and it just seems more difficult as the seasons go on.
Josh Kurp and all the other self-hating folks need to realize one thing. If you took all the significant contributions of the current “black is hip” folks to the betterment of society and laid them end to end, you’d be about five decades back from where you started. As for Jamie Foxx and all the other blowhard black “entertainers.” They had better confine their bullshit to places where they’re either a) a safe distance from a normal white male over the age of 25; or, b) surrounded by a dozen or so bodyguards willing to cover their sorry behinds while they run for the exit. There’s a lot of SHIT out there that’s “black” all right, and Kurp is right that Django is going to add to that excrement.
tell us how you really feel about black people.
What’s your PhD thesis going to be called, “The Union Forever”?
I’d say that ‘Jamie Foxx standup gig’ covers your a) scenario pretty well. Plus, racist protester nazis attacking a comedy show. Ha ha. Now I’ve heard everything.
The south will rise again!
Is it ok to hate the hell out of Jaime Foxx because of that boring Ray Charles movie?
“Can I loathe Bill Cosby and his ^&(%!! pudding pops?!”
It’s totally cool to hate Jamie Foxx because of Ray. But you should give him a pass for that garbage movie. He was Steamin’ Willy Beamin and a cast member of In Living Color.
Shut the fuck up, {corresponding racial epithet}, nobody was talking to you
I’m 99% positive that the people who hated Foxx’s opening monologue are Leno fans. I don’t see colour, so I don’t know what color my skin is, but, as someone who gets called Casper, I can say that I was not offended by a marginally edgy monologue. In fact, I wish we had more edgier stuff on SNL. I thought Foxx brought something that we desperately needed. And for that, I’m thankful.
I thought NBC cancelled SNL when it obviously sucked for the last 20 years.
Aaaaaand there it is. “SNL Sucks And I Never Watch It” quota filled. Please keep the rest of the comments on topic.
I feel compelled to point out that being surprised and upset that SNL is bad every week is like being surprised that the new Gerard Butler or rom com is garbage, and I will keep pointing it out as long as it takes. Bring back the early 90s and I’ll shut my big fat mouth.
Just cause no one dropped the N-word doesn’t mean all those comments were free of racially directed hate. Also, victimizing the clearly dominant race/culture is insensitive and a classic racist move. If it quacks like a racist, or leaves comments on a TV show’s facebook page like a racist, yes, they are racist.
Was that monologue quote an actual quote or just a paraphrase? If it was a quote, it was pretty weak. Nothing to get upset about, but probably sufficient grounds for changing the channel.
“I’ve been watching SNL since the 70′s” is short hand for “my children don’t visit me because the nurse keeps scowling at them”. Or at least “My parents did so much coke back then the television taught me to change my own diaper”.
There’s no way it can be the worst episode of all time, because Saboski Crustalls was fucking amazing.
It was pretty bad though.
Also, with all the hate toward Foxx, most of these people should probably learn that he probably didn’t even write that monologue. So direct your cries of racism toward Seth Myers!
SETH HATES WHITEY
I’ve actually spent a little bit of time with Jaime Foxx and I will tell you, full on rascist. His rant on SNL doesn’t surprise me in the least and the sad part is we live in a country that laughs at it and thinks is ok cause he’s black.
What wrong with his forehead?
Jamie Foxx must be thrilled with all the dead white people in the news…
Jamie Foxx sure is getting the last laugh on all of us who didn’t think his SNL appearance was funny (personally I haven’t found SNL funny in nearly 2 decades) what with all these dead white kids at Sandy Hook. Who knows maybe he and Adam Lanza were working together to pull off an amazing meta joke since Foxx insists he’s such a great comedian.
People still watch SNL? what? when did this happen? I stopped watching that crap around 96 at the latest. who gives a shit about it?
