Theory: our brains are more stuffed with references and questions from TV shows now more than ever before because of the proliferation of the GIF. No longer do we have to search for a video or *shudder* type out what, for instance, Barney Gumble said in that Simpsons episode 17 years ago — we can now just embed a GIF (or find a screenshot). And the world's better off for being able to bookmark The Collected Works of Ron Swanson.
That being said, here's a list of the 15 most quotable TV show characters from 2012, based off how many times you guys made reference to them in the comments section and we've written about them in posts. Many of the selectees appeared on their respective series before this year, but all the quotes are taken from episodes that aired in 2012. If you can't recite every line said by Veep's Jonah, you're doing the Internet wrong.
#15. Rafi (The League)

#14. Louise Belcher (Bob's Burgers)

#13. Al Capone (Boardwalk Empire)

#12. Jonah Ryan (Veep)

#11. Sinbrad (Happy Endings)

I couldn't decide between Brad vs. Alex vs. Everyone on the Show, so splitting the difference.
#10. Drunk Uncle (SNL)

#9. Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)

#8. Kenny Powers (Eastbound & Down)

#7. Nick Miller (New Girl)

#6. Pam Poovey (Archer)

#5. Dean Pelton (Community)

#4. Jesse Pinkman (Breaking Bad)

For that one line alone.
#3. Liz Lemon (30 Rock)

#2. Louie (Louie)

#1. Ron Swanson (Parks and Recreation)

Oh come on Kurp no Roger Sterling?!?!
BRING BACK MATT!
EGREGIOUS.
It’s true but the fact that we have so many good programs shows how lucky we are these days.
No Roger Sterling? No Boyd Crowder? I am dubious of this list.
Speaking of HBO, thinking about canceling now that boardwalk is done and we’re a solid 3+ months from GOT. Anything worth sticking around for?
charlie. fucking. kelly.
Yes, and Dennis. Fucking. Reynolds.
Oh yes, those two also!
I couldn’t get off because Dennis wasn’t on the list.
Charlie should be on the list twice. Regular Charlie and Dark Charlie.
I love where your head is at……… or even frank will do….. love his rambo story……… that alone is worthy of this list!
I’m assuming this was limited to one character per show? Otherwise I imagine Mike or Walt from Breaking Bad should’ve made it.
As well as Max Blum from Happy Endings.
Tyrion Lannister wasn’t #1, your list is invalid.
But seriously, fuck I miss that guy.
I was thinking about a bunch of characters as I was going through the list. Then I got to Ron Ulysses Swanson and was completely satisfied.
Rafi > Everyone Else
That is all. You may proceed with your day.
this is a fact.
I hate still being at work when it’s Year End List time.
This is most excellent. Most excellent indeed.
Always happy to see Ron Swanson, but was really hoping to see Phil Dunphy on the list.
This is the Internet. We do not care for Modern Family.
1 Million Agree to Floyd
Get off your hipster soapbox; Phil Dunphy is great.
Sorry, Modern Family is still great. I don’t care how many Emmys it wins, it’s down to earth and funny.
Tyrion should have been higher, But pretty good list.
Don Draper and Roger Sterling, as well as Bronn, Davos, and Jane Kurkovich would also make my personnal list.
And Jaime fucking Lannister, pretty quotable motherfucker too.
“There’s no cure for being a cunt.”
Donald Glover. THAT IS ALL!
Um, Jillian Belk?
[bit.ly]
Dean Pelton and Sinbrad do not belong.
Anyone from Always Sunny, Stephen Colbert, and Hodor should all be on the list.
This comment’s so wack it’s first name should be Nick Nack Patty!
AWWWWWWWWW SNAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!
Dean Pelton totally belongs.
I agree with Alcoholics……. The dean sucks, should have been joels character instead……. also sinbrad is crap……. at least put an actual character from happy endings!!!!!
Needs more Always Sunny!!!!
There’s a disappointing lack of Raylan Givens in this post:
“I got mad ninja skills buddy.
Yeah, you know karate?
And two other Japanese words.”
“The answer is me and dead owls don’t give a hoot.”
“Boyd I’ve been to Mexico, I don’t think you’d like it.
How so?
There’s a lot of Mexicans.”
I think I just splooshed at Pam from Archer…
As much as I love Nick, Schmidt and his time machine hit list (old and young Ann-Margret) belong here. Hell, Schmidt as Tugg Romney deserves his own slide.
There need to be about 25 characters in your top 15.
Heck, even with Bob’s Burgers I go back and forth as to whether Gene is more quotable.
No mention of (Fill in name here)?!?!?!?! I NEED TO EXPRESS MY RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION ABOUT THIS FREE AND ENTERTAINING CONTENT!
You should copy and paste some meaningless statement declaring your internet rights.
No Gyp Rosetti ??? this list is a no go, unless I missed him in there somewhere
“What’s That…. a gun? I gotta gun… he gotta gun, he gotta gun… everybody got guns”
Boyd Crowder as a tranny prostitute on SOA might be be the best guest spot of the year.
Ron Swanson and Louie are just perfect. Great list!
Wow Rafi and Jonah are criminally low. Top five for those two, easily. Rafi may be the funniest character on television (The League is a disaster when he’s not on) and Jonah crushes every scene he’s in.
I think “criminally” might be overstating it a bit.
Walter White????
- “I’m in the empire business”
- “Say my name”
- “You’re goddamn right”
- “Robbing a train”
- “I used to love to go camping”
I was like, oh man Louie at number 2?! who could possible rank higher than him, and I had totally forgot about RON FUCKING SWANSON.
Good job.
