For two seasons, or two seasons minus the pilot, AMC’s The Killing was a soggy, misleading punching bag for critics and viewers, who wanted answers about Rosie Larsen’s murder, but instead were treated to dead-end leads, non-clever twists, a dreary self-seriousness that even Washington state’s most depressed residents were fed up with, and the killer was trees, right? So obviously it’s coming back for season three.
Though neither the cabler nor producer Fox Television Studios would confirm, showrunner Veena Sud and exec producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin went back to the writers’ room this week to begin work on a third season of the moody drama.
The new season will likely launch in late May, with production set to begin in a few months. Earlier reports had the drama also being made available on Netflix following its initial run on AMC, but those negotiations have not yet been finalized. Series, starring Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman as a pair of Seattle cops trying to solve the murder of a high school girl, was canceled in July. However, rumors persisted that the show might be revived on Netflix or another alternative platform. The lingering interest in Killing from outside outlets likely helped convince AMC to give the show a second look. (Via)
The show pulled in decent ratings, AMC needs a fourth show (especially with Breaking Bad ending soon), and Mireille Enos (World War Z) and Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) were two intriguing, now well-known leads whose careers have taken off since 2011, so it’s understandable why it’s coming back, assuming producers can convince Enos and Kinnaman to return. And we’ll all hate watch it, probably, and wonder how it can possibly resurrect itself now that its central premise has been answered, and we’ll have learned nothing and maybe Rosie will come back as a zombie? The crossover episode worked beautifully for Full House and Family Matters, so why it can’t work for The Killing and The Walking Dead, too? Chris Hardwick can appear at an inappropriate time during a commercial break to give us “tonight’s episode hashtag, #worstgriefpornever.” CAN’T WAIT.

Fuck you, the killing.
sweet! i actually really liked the show, very slow, hell very depressing, but it was something halfway decent to tide me over when the other shows were off.
The only thing that could get me even half interested in this show again is news that they decided to fire Veena Sud for being shitty showrunner.
My hope would be that with the Rosie thing all done and dusted, maybe they can get things right this time — make the next killing (or at least its victim) more interesting, make the investigation a lot less red herring-y than it was the first time around, etc. Not that I have high hopes for any of that, but it’s a possibility. Basically a half-reboot, just a little bit removed from what American Horror Story did.
if they dont kill MIDGE in season 3 then i will in season 4.
The Danish version is wrapping up its third (and final, unfortunately) season, and it is awesome. It’s too bad this one ended up sucking so much, I gave up after the first season.
The entirety of season 3 could not possibly be any worse than the finale of season 2. Right?
God I’ve come to hate Chris Hardwick. Someone important dies and suddenly there’s his smug face telling me how to feel? Fuck him and fuck Talking Dead.
The Killing keeps living…but Rubicon deserved to be cancelled. Thanks, AMC!
I’m going to just repeat what I said as I processed the end. Fuck The Killing. Fuck it in its stupid moody stupid face.
