Time to take out the Drudge Flashing Sirens because we’ve got some breaking news. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Walking Dead has been renewed by AMC for season four, which is about as surprising as the gang’s Hyundai Tucson always looking remarkably clean. In slightly more shocking news, however, showrunner/executive producer Glen Mazzara is leaving the show due to “difference of opinion.”
AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a fourth season — without showrunner Glen Mazzara, who has parted ways with cable’s top series.
“Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer,” AMC said in a statement. (Via)
It was when Glen took over that The Walking Dead took the leap from “meh” to must-watch, so this is a major bummer, especially if the next head honcho slows down the show’s breakneck pace (or is named Sophia). But this decision also begs the question: is Walking Dead showrunner the new Walking Dead black guy?

And so begins the apocalypse! Oh what’ll I do?
Why they got pictures of Tdog he isn’t Glen Mazzara
For real, AMC hates their showrunners. Except Gilligan.
He who messes with Vince Gilligan messes with the Internet.
AMC is run by Taco from The League.
The Killing is the TV equivalent of the Brown Noise.
AMC made their nut this year
If you hit Closed Captioning during that show, all it says is “(fart noise).”
Then AMC spent their nut. Seriously, who the hell watches Comic Book Men and shit, and shit, and shit like that, and shit, and shit, and shit, and jorts, and moomoo hockey jersey, and shit?
I watch it. It’s harmless entertainment.
RIP T-Dogg
AMC is reminding me of why I hate Fox film producers.
What better way to celebrate your most successful season than to force out the guy responsible for it?
Pretty much, yup.
I really hope the “difference of opinion” wasn’t based on money. To quote Tommy Lee Jones in the timeless classic, Under Siege, “I don’t know what his price would have been, but it would have been WORTH it.”
I wish The Killing is brought back and announced to have 13 episodes. And five minutes in to the first episode our detectives get in their car to go to a murder scene and a car bomb blows them to smithereens. And the rest of the hourlong episode is just black screen. And every subsequent episode is nothing but blacked out screens surrounded by commercials. All 13 episodes!
It would be an Andy Kaufman-worthy experiment. Who’s gonna watch? Who fucking cares? We’re AMC, fuck you.
AMC seems determined to screw up this show. The second season was atrocious. The storytelling moved at a snail’s pace, in favor of character driven idiocy (except T-Dog – who didn’t even get character development, hell he didn’t even get lines), they finally ‘right the ship’ in the 3rd season and then get rid of the person responsible for the show’s success. I shudder to think what this will mean for Season 4.
What is up with the execs at AMC? The Killing was horrendous, Rubicon started off promising then promptly went down the tubes, Hell On Wheels – the less said the better. Breaking Bad and Mad Men are fantastic, but that network seems to succeed in spite of what they do – not because of.
NOOO, I had left this show in s02e06, I couldn´t take it anymore, then I start hearing that it gets good again so I end season 2 with hopes up, I havent started yet to watch s03 wwich is supposed to be awesome, and now you tell me that the guy who made it awesome is leaving, fuck you AMC.
AMC is really pushing to have FX be the greatest network that’s not HBO, if they aren’t that already.
AMC has two great shows. ever. FX has countless of them. it’s not even a question that FX is the best cable network that isn’t HBO, and honestly, i even prefer it to HBO
Someone needs to fire these execs. Hrmph…errrrr….someone
Dan Harmon is looking for a show running gig.
If that happened Carl would have to get a pet possibly a monkey. I hear Annie’s Boobs needs a job since Animal Practice lost it’s medical license and Boobs.
*shrugs*
I don’t see that working, but least the resulting show wouldn’t suck.
To be honest, I am too in love with the comics to even enjoy the TV series. I’m glad they get another season and lots of attention, but I will remain thinking that if HBO got the chance of filming this, it would be simply mind-blowing amazing.
Why would you ever mess with what works so well?? They should just cut the check, and sit back.
this season was the worst if you were already a fan of the waling dead and knew how the story pans out the show made too many “safe” decisions and messes with how things happen so that they were so watered, down great im sure with no frame of reference but I can barely watch it now knowing how things should be.
This makes me immediately think that AMC is trying to cut the budget again and Mazzara is having the same reaction to that that Darabont did.
AMC can EAD.
