A mere eight days before the Academy Awards, where he’s nominated Best Supporting Actor for his great work in Django Unchained, giggly Muppet Christoph Waltz will host SNL for the first time on February 16, bringing with him soul-rockers the Alabama Shakes, definitely, and bowing horses, hopefully.
Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner (Django Unchained) Christoph Waltz makes his SNL hosting debut on February 16. Waltz received an Oscar, SAG and Golden Globe award, among many others, for his performance in Inglorious Basterds in 2009. Joining Waltz is Alabama Shakes, making their musical guest debut. The rock band recently received three 2013 Grammy Award nominations, including Best New Artist, for their critically acclaimed album Boys & Girls. (Via)
Let’s get it out of the way now: that’s a bingo. OK, moving on. Waltz is someone who’s naturally funny, and his episode should more than make up for the inevitable disaster that is Justin Bieber’s. Maybe if we’re lucky, SNL will parody Waltz’s classic 1998 film, Das merkwürdige Verhalten geschlechtsreifer Großstädter zur Paarungszeit, which might already be a comedy, I have no idea, but it’s certainly funny to say. In fact, the entire episode should just be Waltz speaking Austrian, with the occasional girlish laugh throw in for good measure. Best episode of the year.

zats a BINGO!!!!!!
/Pets SNL. That’s a good SNL. Good boy.
i wonder if he can do any impressions.
Jon Hamm and Peter Dinklage when Mad Men and Game of Thrones come back on TV, or GTFO SNL !
Actually, SNL’s terrible writers would probably do terrible writing with Dinklage as the host, I don’t really want to think about it, but I’d also be happy for him to have such a gig.
Just don’t let Stefon anywhere near Dinklage.
With The National as the musical guest!
Jon Hamm is one of the best hosts
The Jew Hunter went to NEW YORK?! Barking up the wrong tree, pal!
more like Jew York, amirite?
What’s that? Kenan’s already working on a What Up With That? sketch with Waltz on as himself? Shocker.
Yessssssss. Waltz is awesome, and it’s nice to have an episode where the host and the musical guest are good.
Yes, “Das merkwürdige Verhalten geschlechtsreifer Großstädter zur Paarungszeit” is a comedy but not a good one. Waltz was considered a pretty average actor in Austria and Germany.
fyi: They speak german in Austria.
What’s been the reception to his Tarantino stuff over there?
Speaking for Germany, we love that shit. This pairing, Waltz and Tarantino, blew collective minds over here the first time around. And the praise for Django Unchained couldn’t be bigger. These dudes are the tits!
HOW FUN!!!
Wonderbar!
I don’t know why any actor at the top of his game would do SNL at this point. It doesn’t help them. The writers drive the success or failure of the show, and therefore the guest host. The writers are not doing well. The second most important part is the cast and the cast is lacking.
If I was Waltz right now I’d hit the Alps or do an off-Broadway production of “Das Boot”.
Or the Simpsons porn parody, Das Butt.
