Last night gave us another great pair of Happy Endings episodes, both ostensibly advancing the plot line of Penny (finally) getting married to Pete. That is all well and good, and we will discuss their upcoming wedding and all the hoopla that already surrounds it in due time, I promise, but HOLY HELL you guys, how great was that first episode? If Happy Endings does eventually end up getting canceled, and no cable network swoops in to save them, I am going to write a script for a pilot titled Max and Alex Just Doin’ Pranks and Stuff, rent a helicopter, and litter Southern California with hundreds of copies of it until someone agrees to make it in the interest of public safety, if nothing else. (“Tonight at 11, four more pedestrians injured by falling scripts. Mad man still on the loose.”) And THAT ENDING. Jesus. YES.
So, yeah. We have much to cover. Let’s begin.

The things they sneak into the dialogue always amazes me. Love it.
Was in tears at “I’m not as dumb as I am”. Even if you’re not a fan of Alex (which, how could you not be?) you have to admit that she has had the most growth on the show and has become one of the funnier characters on this fantastic show.
I feel like the New Girl is a poor man’s happy endings.

When Penny said she was off “doing wedding stuff,” my first thought was, “How awesome would it be if she went off shoving this in ex-boyfriend’s faces?”
And then it happened. Loved every second of this. I will be very sad when Happy Endings is canceled.
I know I am being overly optimistic about this but I believe the fact they are doubling up the show instead of waiting to burn off the episodes later is a good sign for renewal or at least a sign the network is behind the show.
unfortunately it’s not. they want to burn off the episodes so they can air whatever it is they’re going to air in its timeslot.
the only chance we have is that the critic buzz remains positive and the ratings uptick all the way to the end of the season.

I thought these were two very strong episodes all around. If the rumors are true, I will be sad to see this show go. But It is certainly a show I would be proud to own, even in this age of streaming.
By the way, Netflix? Why no streaming “Happy Endings” to the masses? I have friends I have been trying to get to watch and they’re staunch perfectionists who won’t start a show in the middle.
The same should be said on the “Justified” discussion, but that is for another week.
TBS should definitely pick it up and pair it with Cougar Town. Two great tastes that taste great together!
If netflix wants to return to it’s grace, why not pick up more content that people actually want that networks are supposedly to dumb to keep, instead of sending it to TBS or other networks that I don’t watch on the norm so i end up forgetting to support shows that i enjoy….
Justified, I believe, is because it’s owned by Sony.
A few months back, Target and Best Buy had both seasons on DVD for like $30. I bought the set and loaned it out to a friend… it has now gone through about six households and by the time I get it back, I’ll have forgotten all about the early episodes, so I can watch them again clean. Hooray for friends who are shitty about returning things!

Alex is seriously the best thing about this show. Everyone else is obviously hilarious too (including Dave) but Alex is just one of the funniest women on TV
Especially when you see where her character came from originally. She has become the best part of a fantastic show.
yeh alex went from being one of the worst to maybe the best. and dave went from being the worst to being great at “being the worst”, i think dave and alex have both been very strong this season
I think Elisha Cuthberts pretty too. But she’s the 5th funniest cast member and character.

“…or they don’t call be a bitch behind my back.” “SHE KNOWS???” “I KNOW.” The Kerkovitches were great, I love it when Jane objectifies Brad, Max’s pranking was SO GOOD and I almost died when Alex FAXED THEM A PICTURE OF HER FACE!

THe quick lines that you almost miss are always the best ones in the episodes.
My now wife dragged me to a Wedding Expo before we got married. It was full of women with crazed looks in their eyes, and men who looked like they were slowly dying on the inside. And there was no beer. It was terrible.
No mention of Manny Petty’s Mani-Pedi?

My husband and I didn’t stop laughing once during the Merry Prankster episode. I had to remember to breathe. I swear if this show gets cancelled I will be so sad. So so sad.

by the way does anyone else want to see more of Max hocking bad/self-invented products? The blendaddy thing was great. I was hoping that would become a recurring joke after The Trove.

I really loved the pranks episode (especially Alex’s version of a Keyser Soze finish) but thought the wedding stuff was just ok. I will really miss this show when it’s gone.
in addition to the guns for subs prank never before seen, the rose pedals to dozen roses to engagement ring to cell phone run for the call to mom to SLIME was just pure brilliance, even if it was unintended by Max.
Seriously, Alex being the mastermind the whole time was hilarious and amazing. If I lose this show and Community at the same time I will be quite sad.
I realize I’m a sexist a-hole, but can’t they come up with some reason to get Alex in some hot outfits? I think it could do wonders for the ratings.
She should just parade around in the sweater from Stanksgiving in every episode. That was simply outstanding.
On last night’s New Girl Zooey was running around in a push-up bra for about half the episode. I’ve missed most of the first season of that show but that had to be the 6th time they’ve had either her or the really hot chick that plays Cece in a bikini or bra for copious amounts of time. I think if Happy Endings or Community started to liberally apply this strategy for their remaining episodes it would drastically improve their shots at renewal.
New Girl is such a chore to watch that they had better start showing the only four things worth watching on that show…..

I found Ben and Kate to be much more enjoyable than New Girl.
New Girl has turned into one of the most reliably funny shows around. there’s not a weak link in the cast at this point, whereas Happy Endings still has Dave.
Now guys a broadcast network show doesn’t HAVE to be constantly on verge of cancellation to be good.
Funny you should say that Jamaal because if something doesnt change for Mindy and New Girl you could be closer than you think. FOX’s weak Tuesday this year has drug down New Girl’s numbers.
I had a sudden and sad realization at the end of Ep 1 last night. My wife, who was watching the show with me, has never seen “The Usual Suspects.” I felt I had to reign in my reaction as to not spoil it for her when she does finally see it (which will probably be this weekend, now).
That said, holy crap. What a great episode. “I’m not as dumb as I am” is my household’s new catchall phrase.
I know someone named Pete and he is a big Bob Marley fan. It must be a thing.
I assume they’re all named after Peter Tosh.

I simply cannot comprehend how a show can get everything so damn right. That couch ejecting Alex into the coffee table was a historic moment of television to be used for future reference for generations to come. I’m lighting a candle every night for this show to get more seasons after all, it would restore my faith in mankind.
What amazes me most about this show is it makes me not loathe Nick Zano, and that is a goddamned miracle.

Dave is still the worst, but putting that caricature up at the bar and “owning it”? F*cking wonderful.
That first episode was the first episode in while where I didn’t actively hate Dave.
Dave was okay in the first episode. The repetition of “Chillzilla” in the second brought me right back to hating, though.
Dave’s awesome. Adds balance to the group as a great straight man. By far the most underrated.
Am I the only one that was hoping for a Real Genius “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” montage at the end of the first episode? The dancing/frolicking in the popcorn would have been phenomenal with Tears for Fears playing in the background. Surely the rights wouldn’t have cost that much.
Side note: The synthesizer riff in “Take on Me” is the happiest noise I’ve ever heard in my life.
I actually wondered how they could afford those episodes with such low ratings last night. Blowing up a limo and the rights to Take on Me can’t be cheap.
I don’t know its not like AHA is swimming in money they probably just said how would you like your rent paid for the month.
Brad not knowing about the Real Genius prank was pretty good, too, as was the Heathers “I miss my dead gay friend” reference.
I am going to miss this show. The first episode was in my opinion, Dave’s finest half hour of the show. He was fantastic. Do not really think Alex is capable of Sozeing the group, but who cares, it was awesome. Her couch ejection was gold. This is now the closest thing to a live-action cartoon though. Max pulled a Peter Griffin by blowing up his limo with no insurance to cap off a series of pranks. Again though, who cares, it was still awesome. Was not a huge fan of the wedding expo episode, but crazy-ass Jane is always fun to watch.
A friend of mine compared it to Family Guy (which we both hate) in that pileing up of visual comedy and extreme use of reference. He’s not my friend anymore.
I think that first episode made me laugh more often than any half-hour of television I’ve watched in months. I was dying by the time Penny got the gak in Max’s apartment.
I’m surprise they didn’t just make her hair green at the end.
The second sliming did actually surprise me and I almost snorted out loud.
If they cancel this show just when I’m getting into it, they will suffer the wrath of GetRightMark!

My eyebrows did a double raise. It wasn’t as good as Don’t Trust the B’s subtle “It’s always going to be about flour with you” line but it was nestled in there nicely.

When i heard that pre-comeuppance line I was amazed that they were able to get it past the censors- along with the gang-hang line.
Bravo t to the writers for slipping it past and ha ha to the censors for missing it.
