Picking apart a list like The 29 Most Yellow Polos or The 49 Sexiest Sideboobs on Girls Who Were Born Between April-June 1987 is a fool’s game, and the same goes for dissecting a Rolling Stone ranking. When last we checked in with the music magazine, they were choosing the 50 Best Hip-Hop Albums of All-Time, and now they’re back with The 50 Funniest People Now, as opposed to five minutes ago, which c’mon, get with the times.
I’m sure we’ll 100% agree with everything they have to say. Here’s the full list:
50. Michael Che
49. Joan Rivers
48. Charles Barkley
47. Jimmy Fallon
46. Daniel Kitson
45. Melissa McCarthy
44. Tracy Morgan

42. David Sedaris
41. Mindy Kaling
40. Paul F. Tompkins
39. Maria Bamford
38. Patton Oswalt
37. Scott Aukerman
36. Kristen Schaal
35. David Letterman
34. Michael Ian Black
33. Nick Offerman
32. Bill Murray
31. Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster
30. Rebel Wilson
29. Jerry Seinfeld
28. John Mulaney
27. Rob Delaney
26. John Oliver
25. Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein
24. Seth Meyers
23. Hannibal Buress
22. Bill Maher
21. Tig Notaro
20. Marc Maron
19. David Cross
18. Howard Stern
17. Jimmy Kimmel
16. Ricky Gervais
15. Kevin Hart
14. Will Ferrell
13. Aziz Ansari

6. Amy Poehler
5. Trey Parker and Matt Stone
4. Jon Stewart

1. Louis C.K. (Via)
OK. It’s not a bad list, I guess — there’s a nice mix of big-name acts, like Louis and Tina and Bill Murray and Larry David, and lesser known comedians, such as Maria Bamford, Dad Boner, Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster, and Tig Notaro. But there are some out-of-nowhere choices, too: Jerry Seinfeld, Howard Stern, and Bill Maher, because apparently it’s 1997, and, most noticeably, Charles Barkley, who is funny for a basketball analyst, sure, but that’s like saying the guy who can talk at an otherwise all-mute school is better at singing than his classmates.
No love for Community, Happy Endings, or Archer, either, but that’s OK: they’re gunning for that sideboobs list.

LENA GOD DAMN DUNHAM????
I could see her being on the list and all, but at #8? It’s a prime example of reasons I don’t read Rolling Stone anymore. I was a fool in those days.
I hate her so so much. The praise for her show is one thing, but to call her even funny let alone top-ten funniest people alive now? FUCK YOU, ROLLING STONE.
Very flawed list.
Jimmy Fallon. Seriously? So long, credibility!
Howard Stern?
Dylan Moran is not on the list so it’ wrong.
The inclusion of Scott Aukerman means they’re clearly aware of Comedy Bang Bang. Therefore it’s unacceptable that Andy Daly isn’t on the list.
And James Adomian. And Seth Morris. And Brett Gelman. And Jason Mantzoukas. And Adam Scott. And Ben Schwartz. And Rob Huebel. And Jon Hamm . Etc. Etc. Etc.
And how the fuck is Paul F Tompkins only at #40!?!
No Nick Thune? Travesty. Also Lena Dunham is about as funny as puppy cancer
My puppy had cancer. Still funnier than her.
1-12 are fine, but to put Seth Meyers and Lena Dunham before Patton Oswalt? This is dumb.
This list just cost them the credibility of 5 Matt Taibbi articles.
Matt Tiabbi’s still considered credible?
Seth Myers was included for his incredible ability to laugh at his own lame one-liners on Weekend Update, while the rest of us sit at home in stupefied silence.
Thats it. I refuse to speak #8′s name ever again. I would call her Voldemort but that would be an insult to evil wizards everywhere.
I thought Todd Barry was funny, but I guess I am wrong
Seth Myers? yeesh.
huh. only 12 women (or 11.5 depending on how you count the comedy teams). guess adam carolla was right after all.
Jerry Seinfeld is funny, sorry, deal with it. Funnier than goddamned Lena Dunham, or Rebel Wilson, that’s for fucking sure.
He hasn’t been funny since the turn of the century.
Not true. Jerry Seinfeld is always funny. Maybe he’s not actively doing comedy, but he’s funny. Other people on this list thing Jerry Seinfeld is funny.
To a certain extent, comedy is subjective, but some of the entries on here are f-ing terrible. Lena Dunham!?
Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel might pull better ratings, but Craig Ferguson is more naturally funny, if you’re gonna include late night hosts.
Take away his accent and he’s Dick Cavett.
Oh. When did Rebel Wilson take up comedy? Ha. Rimshot. But seriously, she is fucking awful.
HAHAHAHAHA Kevin Hart how ridiculous.
I am a big fan of Girls and of Dunham, but the show is much more “impressive” and “good” than it is “funny”
The inclusion of Lena Dunham and Rebel Wilson on this list makes me wonder why Honey Boo Boo was left out. A silly omission on Rolling Stone’s part, for sure.
A fucking Twitter feed? Christ, where’s Key & Peele, Jon Dore, Rory Scovel, Rob Huebel? You know… comedians that go out in front of people… AKA actual comedians.
Another woefully irrelevant and uninformed Rolling Stone list validating our collective choice to no longer read magazines, and forcing us to ask ourselves, “why the fuck must RS continue to torture the internet by ranking the intangible?”?
I simply can not believe it.
where the fuck is Bill Burr?
I WILL DICTATE WHAT AND WHO IS FUNNY! SO WHAT IF IT IS A MATTER OF INDIVIDUAL TASTE!?!?
With Charles Barkley; does it matter if it is intentional?
Where the fuck is James Holmes?
Barkley is funny funny, Inside the NBA is often the most entertaining program of the week
I would have liked to have seen Bill Burr as well. He doesn’t get enough credit.
I guess no Dave Chappelle because he hasn’t been doing much lately.
Well, I’m glad they at least got No. 1 right.
Bill Maher is still pretty funny, but I feel like his appeal now is more about making liberal points with heavy snark than just trying to be outright funny. He’s one of the few Democrats with balls.
If you aren’t listening to The Best Show on WFMU with Tom Scharpling (and Jon Wurster) then you are a factory wrapped douche.
