Remember back when NBC starting talking about making comedies that were more “broad” and less “smart/sophiscated,” and everyone was running around screaming “YEAH, BUT WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? ‘BROAD’ HOW? ARE YOU CANCELING COMMUNITY? ANSWER ME!” Well, don’t look now, but I think we just got our answer:
Jessica Simpson is getting her own sitcom. NBC, Universal Television, and production company Electus are creating a pilot presentation of a comedy based on Simpson’s life, written by Paul Blart: Mall Cop scribe Nick Bakay. [Vulture]
A sitcom. Starring Jessica Simpson. About her life. Written by the mind that brought you Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeesus. And as if all that weren’t enough, the production company behind it, Electus, is run by disgraced former NBC Top Banana Ben Silverman, who said Jessica Simpson is (AND I QUOTE) “truly a modern-day Lucy.” As in Lucille “I Love Lucy” Ball. Yeah.
As someone who has seen the movie Private Valentine: Armed & Dangerous (aka Major Movie Star), I can safely say that this is one of the silliest things anyone has ever said.

Whatever. Parks and Rec on TBS is going to be way better. /Cries
Hey man, at least they’ll promote it. They got behind Cougar Town and (as much as I love it) that has less of a chance with attracting new viewers than Parks.
No. No No No. NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Being able to select what channels you pay for can’t come soon enough. Pretty sure I could survive on FX, AMC, the NFL network, HBO and an Amazon Prime subscription.
Until they raise their prices to justify your choosy attitude, Chazz! They clearly Have You By The Balls, coming Wednesdays to NBC.
Answer high paying trivia in high stress situations.
It’ll be like Stars In Danger, but you definitely won’t know who these people are.
I hear that’s a mid-season replacement for America’s Fattest Dance Loser Fartnoise
Ben just wanted to see those warlocks.
I’m assuming Jessica’s diet is not going well, since the writer of any Kevin James vehicle only knows fat/fart jokes.
Am I the only one that thinks its funny to call the guy who wrote Pual Blart Mall Farter a scribe?
Fat sad white chicks LOVE NBC, this will print money.
Indeed.
I’m convinced the plot of Idiocracy is exactly what is going to happen to this society. Take the dumbest and let them call all the shots, see what happens. We’re already doing this in Washington, all the way up to our “cool guy” President. There’s all these “educated” people with no real-world experience running things. And I think we can all agree Hollywood is the absolute worst. What did you do to become a studio head? How are you qualified for that job? What I’m trying to say is we just need to hit the reset button. And that’s why I like the show Revolution.
Go away, ‘batin!
I’m pretty sure they’re saying Simpson is like Lucille Ball in that she’s also dim-witted. She doesn’t possess Ball’s comedic timing, but hey stupid is a start. Right?
I, for one, applaud the handing of money to mediocre, talentless blondes and eagerly await my million dollar sitcom deal.
If it somehow get’s her back into Dukes of Hazzard shape, I approve.
It’s not a bad idea…..they need a fat show to compete with Mike and Molly.
Honestly, that premise sounds like a joke from a movie about terrible TV.
That said, if Community and Parks migrate to TBS (any chance TBS could bring back Dan Harmon?) I would be one happy camper.
If Community went to FX, that would be even cooler.
I smell a reunion with Dane Cook.
Oh, wait. No, it’s just that sandwich I put in the drawer before I went on vacation.
Ow.
I just pulled a muscle with the dismissive wank I directed toward this show.
The depressing thing in all of this is that this show will get all the ratings in the world. *sigh*
the paul blart writer/jessica simpson combo is… according to my calculations… the broadest something can possibly get. next fall season will be a dark time when louie doesn’t return until whenever it’s supposed to return and community/parks and rec/happy endings are all cancelled.
