This is bizarre, and the first I’ve heard of it, but according to Broadcasting and Cable, the FX Network is expected to be spit into two. There will be the FX Network, which we know and love and will continue to feature dramas like Sons of Anarchy and Justified, and then there will be FXX, a new comedy channel targeted toward millennials, which will feature It’s Always Sunny in Philadelpia and The League, in addition — presumably — to the 90 episodes of Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management that will air every week for the next two years. The move is expected to be made as soon as September, when FXX will roll out to 75 million subscribers. In addition, each channel would be programmed with appropriate theatrical movies that the network has been stockpiling in deals with major movie studios over the years.
FX has not made the move official, and the only comment they have made so far is that company is always examining its programming options. Presumably, the 75 million subscribers would come from Fox Soccer, which would be converted into the comedy network. The deal is not completely unique: TBS and TNT made a similar split, while AMC and IFC are owned by the same company but program their movies to different target audiences.
I’m OK with the move, as long as two conditions are met: 1) That I am one of the 75 million subscribers (I have no idea if I have Fox Soccer or not, nor do most, I imagine), and 2) As long as John Landgraf — the current president of FX — continues to program the comedy channel, as well. That guy is the best network president on the planet.

I hate this idea.. Looks like I’ll be getting more than premium cable shows off bit torrent
Total wildcard move.
Yes
so Louie and Wilfred, whenever they return, will also go to this new network? So that’s 5 shows? plus Archer and W Kamau Bell, so 7 shows, plus syndicated tv, plus movies? Shouldn’t you have about 8 shows with 13 week seasons, so you should have about 32 shows in rotation? does that mean there’s going to be more shows?
Don’t forget Legit. And yeah, there will probably be more.
Well I’m not math expert but what’s 2.5 Men multiplied by a factor of 7 or so? Yeah enjoy that.
I’m also not word expert.
Ah Hah! I hope they round up all of the better talent from 30 Rock, Community, Parks&Rec, Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B in 23 and come up with some inventive new programming that the network will support and allow to blossom. This could be HUGE!
Well, I hope they have a new show called Family STILL Matters, which features Urkel as a single dad who’s still a nerd, but has a couple of cool kids who are embarrassed by him. And Reginald VelJohnson is in it, playing Carl and his long-lost twin brother, Sgt. Al Powell.
It wouldn’t hurt if Alfonso Ribeiro was in it, either.
It would have all great shows that absolutely nobody watches.
Instead of rounding up the talent it would be better to just move those shows over after they get cancelled by their networks.
I really don’t need FX programming AGAINST itself. I have a cable system that lets me record 4 things at once but some evenings I’m at that limit.
But having less shows to run in one week would give them more free days to show reruns. Kinda balances out, probably.
I hope they pick up Community and Parks when NBC decides to let me know to never watch their channel again
Does this mean that FX can bring back some of their original programming? I miss their morning show……Oh my God I’m old!
Just curious. How many subscribers does FX have in comparison?
Good point: while I’m sure people will dabble with both channels, isn’t splitting your consistent viewers between two channels sort of stupid? Unless they’re pulling in an insane amount of viewers on a regular basis that would sustain both channels, I don’t know if this is a good idea. Who knows.
75 Mil is about the total multichannel universe (meaning cable + dish + phone companies), so they’ll be available anywhere you have FX–except maybe not in HD, which depends on the channel carriage negotiations between Fox and Comcast/Time Warner/Dish etc.
Most likely they’ll convert another little-watched channel that they already own into FXX, like when TNN became Spike, which I’m not sure exists either any more.
And splitting your channels doesn’t really hurt ratings most of the day, since all the networks are showing reruns all day anyway. It’s only in prime time that it will matter, and they’ll do okay.
Maybe this means they are going all-in with the UFC? If so, brace yourselves for repeated viewings of Ultimate Submissions 22: Omoplatas.
I read that as Ultimate Submissions 22: Oompa-Loompas.
And now I want to see that so, so badly.
o/` What do you get when you’re not on your feet?
One broken arm and a first-round defeat! o/`
o/` Why did you fight when you should have just tapped?
How did it feel when your… arm… snapped? o/`
I BET IT DIDN’T TI-I-CKLE!
That’s outstanding.
Bravo Stinky Pete. Your Mothers very Stinky Vagina must be very proud.
Am I the only one who read the linked article and feels like the writer was kinda bullshitting?
You’re the only one who read the linked article.
“The move is expected to be made as soon as September, when FXX will roll out to 75 million subscribers.”
So there’s FX, soon there will be FXX… does this mean FXXX is in the works?
“You know, Fox turned into a hard core sex channel so gradually, I didn’t even notice.”
You win the comments for today.
Why are we fixing something when nothing is broken?

Terrible, this idea.
Call me a European ponce, but I actually like watching FSC. The review show is such a nice change of pace from the bullshit that spews from SportsCenter because they show more than three five-second clips of each game.
FSC awful. The nightly highlight show isn’t horrible, but the gameday show is a f*cking travesty.
You are a European ponce.
/wonders about soccer maybe being a real sport
I don’t know why people are complaining. If it were up to me, we would have ten FX channels.
word.
I would pay for an Archer channel.
Sounds like FX is going to need some shows fill the gap then?
BRING BACK TERRIERS!!!
Will this apply to FX Canada?
Because right now i only get up to date episodes of American Horror Story and SOA. No Archer, No Justified…
Damnit, I acutally watch Fox Soccer and Fox Soccer+.
Fox Soccer? Are you kidding me???
Well Fox Soccer is losing the rights to the EPL so in a way killing the channel makes sense.
Is Archer still on tonight? It is? Cool. This news means nothing to me.
FX is the best network anyway, double that shit up.
