3. Game of Thrones Season Three Premiere (March 31, 2013) — When last we left Game of Thrones, Joffrey had managed to hang on to the throne in the Battle of Blackwater (no thanks to himself), and we were introduced to the White Walkers. George R.R. Martin’s massive third novel from the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords, will be split into two seasons, and some have even wondered with so much content, how will Game of Thrones ultimately end?
2. Arrested Development Season Four Premiere (TBA, Maybe But Probably Not May 4th) — Now that Mitch Hurwitz has added to the original 10-episode order, our national holiday has been pushed back, tentatively until May. Once that date has been firmed up, I expect the number of preplanned vacation days to skyrocket, as all 12-14 episodes of season four will be released simultaneously, which means no one will go to work that day. Welcome Back, Anal Rapist.
1. Breaking Bad Series Finale (Date TBA, Probably Late August) — For viewers of great television, anyway, the Breaking Bad finale will undoubtedly be the most important event of 2013. In fact, everything that comes after will likely be compared to the Breaking Bad finale: “The Walking Dead premiere was awesome, but it was no Breaking Bad finale.” “Wow! I just had the most mindblowing sex of my life, but it was not Breaking Bad finale!” What will happen is anyone’s guess, but there will almost certainly be body bags.

Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, Community, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead
Just on those 5 alone, this year makes a pretty strong case for one of the best in television of all time, but throw in Archer and Justified (not to mention possible seasons of Parks and Recreation and Happy Endings) and I can’t think of any better.

Glad I’m not the first person to want to mention Archer! The Office looks are Grud-awful as the painful UK original. I really can’t grasp how it took off over here and then the US stretched it out over a ridiculous length of time. The only one on there I have my doubts about is Community. It was getting a little hit and miss a while ago and with the behind-the-scenes crap that was publicised last year, who knows what this season will be like?

I have to disagree about Fringe. I’ve really enjoyed the change in direction this season, I’m sure if they had a full season order there would be plenty of one off monster of the week episodes, but I like this focused season long arc. The Observers are great villains, the show has always felt like a televised comic book to me, and this is just the final arc.
I’m going to stock up on tissues for the Fringe finale because, if the death in the last episode was any indication, there will be SO MANY FEELINGS.
Also, Walter Bishop is the greatest ever. My kitten’s middle name is Walter, which tells you just how much I love him.
I have a very bad feeling it’s going to be Walter trying to set the timeline right and sacrificing himself in the finale.
I’ll be shocked if Walter survives the finale. I’m going to cry so hard, y’all.

Biggest complaint about this season is that they shouldn’t have killed off Etta so early. Kinda made for way too many downer episodes and I really didn’t think they needed that to happen.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure Walter will be dead by the end, and I kind of suspect that he might not be the only one.
I’m going to give Community another chance. I’ve been a big fan of Brie and Glover for a long time but I can’t take Joel McHale seriously.

They ran most of season 2 of GoT last weekend and I watched them again, then since they didn’t air the last episode I ran to my ipad and watched the last episode again. I’m incredibly psyched to realize we are within 3 months of GoT coming back!
Also, I’m rewatching all of Arreseted Development on my lunch half hour each day. Probably too early to be doing that but what else is there to do in a half-hour except ****-off.
I presume season five of The Venture Bros is just too good for this list.

I was confused by the Walking Dead Series 3 Finale, on many levels. First, season. Second, I thought we already had the season 3 finale, and then I realized that was a mid-season finale. The episodes pick back on on February 10th.
That show will go on for at least 8 seasons.

Agreed. Fringe Season Five has been awesome; although I’ll give him a grudging point on Walter’s trip from two episodes ago. That was fantastic; made me re-watch the episode with Broyles tripping while everyone else plays Inception in Olivia’s mind.

Yeah, pretty condescending. Sorta seems like Dustin got tired of commentators ’round here saying he “likes the worst things,” and is now overcompensating with a mild dickishness.
Season’s had a few weak/meandering episodes/arcs, and Etta’s premature death was sucky, but “muddled mess” is a bit excessive.
So many great shows ending, yet so few new shows that are decent. What will I do with my time after 2012, what spend it with my family and friends? Ugh.

at some point this year there will be a big Doctor Who spectacular to celebrate its 50 years on tv. which is kind of a big deal.
I’m just laughing at “UPROXX anonymous source has revealed to us that the Community set has been torn down.” because the writers of the show were tweeting out pictures of the set being packed up during the last week of filming.

I really enjoyed the Brit version of “House of Cards,” though the main joy was watching the trademarked “Oh-so-erudite-yet-cold-villan-that-went-to-Oxbridge” acting. Don’t know if that will translate to the US version.

Glad Breaking Bad is number 1, it certainly is the biggest tv event of the year (and the biggest film/tv/theater event of the year, as far as I’m concerned.
The Community set is taken down and put into storage after every season, and they still have an exterior for Greendale up (I was at Paramount yesterday). Also, one of my friends who does closed captioning has said new eps have been pulled twice, that they will be shown out of order, and that February 7 is still tentative (not sure if the latter is true still.)

Didn’t the news hit this week that they may be doing one more season of Dexter instead of ending the series this year?
No Mad Men or Homeland (I’m desperate to see what the focus of season three will be and whether they can recover from creative downfall of season two’s second half). I guess neither of those shows are geek-friendly enough to be considered. I will also be brave enough to admit that I’m looking forward to Girls. It’s a hot mess of a show that has a few great moments. I want to see whether they can string enough great moments together to give us some great episodes.
