This is just speculation, and it’s not even my own speculation, but the math makes sense, and it points to one thing: ABC is either about to pull the plug on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23, or it’s going to burn off the remaining episodes this summer, and then pull the plug. That’s the bad news in the scenario; the good news? There may still be a glimmer of hope for Happy Endings. Follow me here through the math:
Apparently, ABC quietly revealed that on Tuesday, January 29th, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 will be pre-empted for a second all new episode of Happy Endings. OK, so no big deal, right? Well, because ABC is airing their new Anthony Bourdain cooking show, The Taste, tonight there won’t be any episodes of Happy Endings or Don’t Touch the B—-. Likewise, the two weeks following the January 29th double-pumping of Happy Endings, both shows will be preempted, first by the State of the Union address and then by a two-hour premiere of The Bachelor. So, the next possible Happy Endings will be February 19th. Got it? Well, on March 19th, Dancing with the Stars returns, which means that NEITHER show will air on Tuesdays again this year after March 19th.
So, between February 19th and March 19th, there are 5 weeks left. There are also 10 Happy Endings episodes remaining this season, after the January 29th double-pumping. Happy Endings gets slightly better ratings, it’s closer to a syndication deal, and it’s base audience is larger. What does that mean? According to Sitcoms Online, and anybody with a half a brain who sees the scenario (this does not necessarily include television executives), ABC will probably double pump Happy Endings those last five Tuesdays, casting Don’t Trust the B— aside for the remainder of the network television season, giving it virtually no hope of renewal. Meanwhile, if Happy Endings gets renewed, it’s one full season away from a potential syndication deal (and it would do gangbusters on a network like Comedy Central, or even TBS).
In sum: Happy Endings has a glimmer of hope of surviving through another season. Don’t Trust the B—-, meanwhile, may never air again. If, however, Happy Endings does get the sh*tcan, I’m guessing that it MIGHT be picked up by TBS and paired with Cougar Town next year.
I’m going to miss The Beek.

A DAMN shame……Dreama Walker has great tits…..
Her rack alone deserves syndication.
That photo and the repeated use of “double pump” is making my pants tight.
Check out Compliance, you pervs
Ron, The context of the nudity really ruins the pleasure I could get from those scenes.
Google image search provides the breasteses without the context.
And hypnotic anime eyes.
Well, at least “The Neighbors” is still a-okay!
*cries*
This is the part that makes the least sense to me. I’ve never watched The Neighbors, but I know for sure that Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23 is a better show.
Unacceptable
That sucks… Where will I get my Beek fix?
(But YAY for Tony Bourdain!)
This is fucking bullshit hogwash. And Anger Management gets a 90 episode order? Fuck you cruel world.
Don’t forget, Big Bang Theory and Mike and Molly just keep on chugging along.
F everyone’s life. This is why I’m not a pacifist, people have not advanced since the caveman days. Anger Management is the modern day equivalent of hand print paintings from the neolithic (or whatever) era.
“Don’t Touch the B—–”? I don’t know… I wouldn’t mind touching Krysten Ritter. With my penis.
Or maybe that was just a subconscious slip telling ABC to keep their hands off the show.
Hahaha, missed that. Well done, well done.
Please let FX pick this up
Or is it going to be FXXX now?
Usually, when a double-pump of Happy Endings is involved, I tip $50.
HA!
Anyone else seen the ads for The Taste and just cringed? I get the feeling Bourdain will be regretting this for a very long time.
I believe my exact words were “Christ, man. You’re better than that.”
Nah, he is pretty much playing a caricature of himself now. “Hey Tony, go on tv and say something super snarky”.
At least Nigella’s boobs still impress
Yes, indeed. To the boobs.
Love Bourdain, but this is the kind of sell out bullshit he has made his career in pointing out in others. Really sad.
I know this will get people coming after me with pitch forks, but I find “Don’t Trust the B” actively annoying.
I love “Happy Endings” and have tried watching “Don’t Trust the B” when it comes on after Happy Endings, chiefly due to how much praise “Don’t Trust” gets around here, but i just can’t get into it. Like, really can’t get into it, I find it actively annoying.
I mean I’m not happy about any show with cult following getting canceled, and i feel bad that it means James Van Der Beek will have to go back on welfare, but it is not a show I’m gonna miss.
Honestly I am the opposite. I don’t really find Happy Endings to be all that entertaining but I love Don’t Trust the B.
Don’t Trust the B took some time to figure itself out, but jesus god, has it hits its stride.
@Taco, good to know, I’ll have to give it another shot. Is there a specific episode you would recommend?
I would start at the beginning of this season. They’ve all been pretty good this year. But for me, the Thanksgiving episode was where I got hooked.
I just started watching Don’t Trust The B over the weekend. While I don’t enjoy it as much as I do Happy Endings, it’s a real funny show, that should be commended if for nothing else than it’s constant attempts to screw with the network censors. Hell, in the first episode, you’re introduced to Eli while he’s masturbating
random thought: FX is splitting into two networks next season right? one drama and one comedy? How about bringing some known cult followed shows like Dont Trust the B and Happy Endings to help fill out and get the new channel off the ground?
I had this same thought. FXX come save the day.
This is the best case scenario for me. Both FX and TBS need to start scooping up all the shows that broadcasters cancel before they can get a decent audience.
Its a shame- this show is way underrated in the comedy world
It doesnt surprise me that a (probably) niche show like Dont Trust the B is gonna be cleared out in favor of mindless bullshit like The Bachelor. It would be cool if cable picked up both of these shows, but I’m not gonna hold my breath.
This seems like it’ll be the last year I end up watching the major networks, and I for one am glad that they are letting me know where they stand. People like me, who enjoy dynamic and interesting television, are not welcome anymore. And thats fine with me.
I kinda knew “Don’t Trust The B” was going to be canned when they really just started to show it all out of order. And not in a “Happy Endings” kickball kind of way, but in a way that entire character arcs were completely thrown for a loop (One week, Eric Andre has been dumped in the Hamptons and goes after Dreama Walker, the next he’s with the girlfriend like it never happened, dumped again and back with her at the end of the episode. And that’s just a small example.)
I enjoy the show, but the writing was on the wall. Especially with this extra Sunday burn off.
This. When you’ve been Whedon-ed & aired out of order, it’s all downhill from there. Too bad, I enjoyed B.
It seems to me like this show at least has a chance. Can someone who understands TV better than me explain why shows get killed off so quickly when they have mediocre rating but look like they might improve? Seems to me, writers take a little time to find their groove. That’s usually true of any show.
Im no expert, but I’d say it all comes down to revenue. Look at the recording industry. If an act isnt proven to move units, the major labels wont take a chance. Thats why all the majors are stocked with pop and country, because its guaranteed to sell to a larger, built-in audience. Its not in their interest, as a business, to sign a small band and build a following.
So it is with the big networks. If a shows not getting the ratings they’re after, then the networks arent selling the ad space they need to stay in business. Hence the need for more “universal” programming. Fortunately, there are channels, like FX, that will cater to smaller audiences and build a following for more niche programming. And they will be the places people will go to find more unique shows.
This makes me sad. Also the fact that Anthony Bourdain, who has made a living bashing every celebrity chef in the world, now has a cooking reality show also makes me sad.
Thanks, Alanis.
I hope this doesn’t keep further washed up actors from playing debauched versions of themselves. I enjoy that.
Fine with me. I really don’t understand the love Apt. 23 gets. It’s nails on a chalkboard for me. I tried to keep giving it a shot, but I eventually had to erase the season pass a few weeks ago. It’s just not funny. Time to make room for Happy Endings.
All our hopes rest on TBS. Should we start a letter writing campaign to get TBS to save ‘Don’t Trust the B and Happy Endings?
Happy Endings already has a gif that is this post, but I CAN’T FIND IT! The one where Brad and Penny go “Yay! oh…”
haha This. Love that moment.
C’mon ABC. No half measures
Dear HBO:
Please pick up Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23. I’d love to see Krysten Ritter get naked or have the sex.
Sincerely
Stringer Bell
I think you are thinking of Showtime. It would be a good replacement for Californication
Dear HBO and/or Showtime,
I would like to add my endorsement to Mr Bell’s request, with the addendum “with Dreama Walker” to the main text.
Sincerely,
Billybob
Do Turner the Broadcasting System in Apt. 23.
If this is both the last season of Community and Happy Endings, I can’t promise that I’ll make rational decisions when both runs are over.
If TBS had an hour with Happy Endings and Cougar Town, I would watch the shit out of that hour. I don’t know if anyone else watches it, but TBS has Falling Skies too. Add those to Conan and it would practically be my favorite channel. FX wins with Archer and Justified though, and fuck it, but I really like the first episode of American Horror Story and still hold the first three seasons of Nip/Tuck in the highest regard.
Falling Skies is on TNT
Damnit. On Demand strikes again!
also falling skies is terrible.
We live in a sad, sad world when shows like these get cancelled (though I don’t watch Don’t Trust the B—-), and there is a two-hour premiere of The Bachelor. That’s about all I can say about this.
In Canada (The land of forever tears, in Iroquois* (*not true)) The B usually follows Happy Endings. God Rest The Beek.
