Happy Endings was averaging something like 3.5 million viewers in the Tuesday 9 p.m. time slot this season before it got bumped from ABC’s schedule until Friday, March 29. At the time of said bumping, we informed you that the show was being replaced by Celebrity Wife Swap, and that the first episode would feature Kate Gosselin and Kendra Wilkinson. Let’s check to see how all that went.
The second season premiere of ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap saddled Playboy pinup Wilkinson with Gosselin’s famed mega-litter (if only you could buy patience at Costco). The show was seen by 7 million viewers and had a 2.4 rating among adults 18-49. That’s up 4 percent from last year’s preview of the celebrity version of Wife Swap last year (and up 14 percent from last year’s regular Tuesday premiere) and represents an all-time high for the show among both viewers and the demo. WELP.
Here’s the worst part: You can’t blame ABC for this. Sure, it’s annoying when a network screws around with a show you like, but, I mean, double the viewers. This one’s on us. Like, as a society. Fun, smart network comedies are disappearing like the ice caps because people (your family, your neighbors, you) would rather watch two screeching blonde hyenas babysit each other’s kids. That’s the world we live in, and it’s why we can’t have nice things. And as much as I want to sit here and point the finger at everyone else for this, I just saw that the “wives” on next week’s episode of Celebrity Wife Swap are Coolio and Mark McGrath, and there is something like a 40000000% chance that I will watch at least part of that. I’m part of the problem, and it makes me sick.
The whole thing is a bummer. Here is a picture of Elisha Cuthbert playing with a bunch of puppies.

“Next season from CBS! Ow! My Balls!”
We have become Idiocracy.
OW! My Balls!
Elisha sure does have some nice puppies.

I’m as big of a Happy Endings fan as the next guy but it wasn’t averaging 3.5-4 million viewers before it was pulled.
The last two episode on Tuesday were below 3 million
I was averaging out the whole season so far, including the 5.5 million for the premiere, and the 4.3+ for the next 3-4 weeks.
Total average for all 13 episodes, including the Friday ones: 3.49 million
LAWYERED
I like that that catchphrase applies on this site literally when Danger is involved.
Happy Endings is FAST! This country’s just not up to the challenge.
I blame moms.
I would understand the ratings if they mentioned that Kate would get eaten by her brood at the end, thus completing her purpose as a possumed-haired spider-bitch.
No one needs to be teaching Mark McGrath’s kids how to rap. That could only lead to chaos for future generations of music lovers.
Someone tell me how you can call it “celebrity wife swap”, when Kate isn’t a wife.
It’s a show where they already stretch the definition of celebrity. Words mean nothing to them.
I know! They might as well call the show “radioactive bear swap.”
See, I would watch “Radioactive Bear Swap.” A lot.
I guess my constant sales pitch of, “Hey, jerks, shut up! Hey, shut up ya jerks! Focus on me, idiots! Why won’t you watch the shows I tell you to watch?”
Everything but your last sentence is identical to all the successful pitches to get cast in a show like “Celebrity Wife Swap.”
Relevant.
i hate the world…or, this is why we can’t have nice things.
At least they replaced one fine rack with another
The good news is that I can now use “Happy Endings” as the name for my massage parlor reality show I’m producing.
I hate the world so much sometimes.
We’ll see the drop in the second ep when they don’t have 8 fucking kids to exploit.
