ABC couldn’t just let us have the illusion that they gave a damn about Happy Endings, could they? It was bad enough that they’d moved it to Sundays, where it faced off against EVERYTHING THAT IT IS GOOD ON TELEVISION. Then they sh*tcanned their time-slot partner, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23. Now? The ultimate disgrace. Happy Endings has been bumped to the Friday night death slot.
But wait! It gets worse.

Yes! Exactly Max. So it turns out, they’re bumping Happy Endings to make room for … Celebrity Wife Swap. Who the hell wants to watch Celebrity Wife Swap?

Me too, Max. Me too. But that’s where network television is at now. While cable, Netflix, and Amazon are intent on churning out quality lasting content, the networks care about only one thing.

New Happy Endings episodes won’t even return until March 29th, when they will be double pumped on Friday nights. But hey! We can enjoy The Taste and Celebrity Wife Swap until then, right?

Unbelievable. I’m so bored with the network scheduling department, their inability to get their sh*t together, their lack of faith, their devotion to a SHORT-TERM bottom line without any regard to quality or credibility or entertainment value. I’m with Penny on this one.

I just saw this article on EW and may start crying? Happy Endings is my second favorite show on TV (after Justified)
Same here. Fuck ABC.
Aw goddammit, I’m two cancellations away from having no compromise shows left. Not to mention the fact that Happy Endings is brilliant and we as a society are doomed.
what’s a compromise show?
Programming the ball and chain and I agree on.
oh man. I feel for you. I’ve had to start watching shows I thought I would NEVER have to watch just so I can watch Walking Dead.
Hey ABC
love this. stealing and storing for future use.
Not only did they shitcan it all the way to Fridays in late fucking March for a double pump, THEY ANNOUNCED IT AT 10:51 ON A WEDNESDAY.
Zero fucks given. Some cable network better pick up this show. ABC, pulling an NBC.
It’s like your shitty brother walking out in his shitty undies to nonchalantly inform you that he drank all the soda, ate your lunch and then accidentally killed the dog.
“Better luck next time, bro.”
This just in: Christina Applegate has joined the show just so that she can quit it.
get at me… Esquire Network? TBS? New FX Comedy Channel?
SOMEBODY????????? I NEED MORE TROVE
This blows. Networks blow.
And yet “The Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men” are in the top 10 for ratings.
RIP comedies with clever writing and great characters.
Celebrity Wife Swap!?!? You’re fucking joking. This is all a bad dream.
Dear NBC,
I know you suck and won’t do this, but in light of The Office trainwreck and 30Rock ending, along with your ‘broader comedy’ failures, may i suggest?
8pm – Parks and Rec
8:30pm – Community
9pm – Happy Endings
9:30pm – Ben & Kate
I promise you a small, but consistent audience that will stay for the whole 2 hours, all of which are a single target demographic for advertisers.
The 30 Rock ending was crap. They should have just let the third to last episode stand as the finale.
or Dont Trust the B in place of Ben and Kate, see im even giving you a choice!
The 30 Rock finale was fine. Happy Endings is incredibly overrated (mostly by this blog). Ben & Kate and Don’t trust the B are both just terrible.
Take those notes and try again.
@PowerClashing: ‘Fraid you’re right. I tried Happy Endings and found it just annoying (and I liked Scrubs until the hideous reboot) — it was just trying too hard.
I’ve reviewed your notes and they all have been discarded. You may move on to celebrating the cancellation of another show whose said cancellation makes you feel justified of your opinion of it. One more note – please don’t provide me with any further notes. Our tastes in good tv appear to be a bit different, I suppose you’ll have to find a way to live with that. Thanks.
Boom, don’t listen to these guys. This is a brilliant suggestion.
@boom I didn’t say I was celebrating it. I really don’t care what happens to the show. If anything, I’m just glad I won’t have to deal with people telling me how much I’m missing out because I don’t watch. I also don’t need it to be cancelled to justify my opinion of it. I know 2 and a Half Men is a terrible show. I don’t need it to be cancelled to tell me I’m right.
Lastly, the frank exchange of ideas and opinions is what makes this country great and the reason for the internet in the first place. Maybe you shouldn’t be so personally attached to the television you watch. I say that because it really won’t be difficult for me to “find a way to deal” with a different opinion, and the fact that you think it would be indicates more about you than your terrible, terrible, idea ever could. Look on the bright side, you still have 2 Broke Girls, which I’m positive you watch.
I’m fairly certain that the number of people who are fans of both Happy Endings and 2 Broke Girls is equal to or less than 0.
@boom, I love this lineup as well. I’m already missing Ben & Kate. I REALLY don’t know what I’ll do without Happy Endings.
Despite hating the news, I really like the way this post was crafted.
/you use the best gifs, Dustin
Agreed.
This is my nightmare. My absolute nightmare.
Help us TBS, you’re our only hope.
Ugh. This is why my wife watches CSI. It never goes away.I knew something this beautiful couldn’t last, but why does it have to be treated so shabbily on the way out the door?
I personally blame Manny
ABC isn’t just pulling an NBC, it’s the new NBC. They just finished giving Don’t Trust… the Scrubs treatment, now they’re giving Happy Endings the Community treatment. Just wait, they’ll come back and delay the March 29th premiere (March 29th is a state of mind…), put it back on Tuesdays, and show us their St. Paddy’s day episode around the 4th of July.
If Happy Endings and Community gets cancelled, I will just be done.
FUCK YOU ABC!
Oh, this is some bowshit! Why do they have to mess with such a good thing? I want vengeance!
It’s easy to be mad at the networks, but is this really ABC’s fault? From what I could see, Happy Endings got a good amount of advertising, they gave it 3 seasons, and they tried a few different things to make it work. I think that most people don’t want to watch a show that they have to pay attention to. I know plenty of people that I consider to be fairly bright, yet they sit on their couch playing on their phone half of the episode, and laugh when they are basically told to. There is clearly a place for smart television (cable, netflix, perhaps more direct internet stuff someday), but network TV probably isn’t the place for it.
Completely agree with this. It’s not ABC’s fault entirely (though they still blow), it’s the new America’s fault.
Ah yes. The old “The public didn’t like it because they’re stupid” argument. Arrested Development is pretty much the only TV show that can legitimately use that argument.
I wasn’t trying to say that people are stupid. Certainly many are, but there are plenty of smart people out there. The issue is that I don’t think most people (even smart ones) want to intently watch television. My wife and I are both people that like to catch all of the jokes. We wait to say something to each other until the show’s over, or we pause the tv. Most people I know just aren’t like that. I’ve tried to watch Happy Endings with groups of people like that, or even I’m distracted by something, and after the show is over I say, “That was a bad episode.” Happy Endings has a lot of general plot lines that we’ve seen on other ensemble comedies before, but it stands out by the quality and sheer amount of irrevernet humor squeezed into every epsiode. If you aren’t paying attention, it feels like a poor man’s Friends.
As someone who is not a big fan of this show, maybe due to small sample size, seen like 3 episodes, I will say that it was better then 80% of the crap that is on.
Good enough to not be canceled.
Not a good day for network tv.
Can TBS just pick this up and pair it with Cougar Town already?
Hopefully Ms. Cuthbert can get on a HBO show *wink wink*
Knowing HBO, they’d put her on a show where she’s fully clothed, while her roomate, played by Lena Dunham is naked onscreen for 20 minutes each episode while she’s shaving her legs.
While this stinks of network burn off, there is a very small chance this could be a good thing. Expectations for Friday are so astronomically low that HE may have a shot for renewal if it can bring it’s tiny but very devote fan base over to those death-slots.
ugh.
And just like that, ABC is the new NBC. Also the new NBC? The old NBC, they can still go fuck themselves. But ABC swapping out “…Apt 23″ and “Happy Endings” for “Celebrity Wife Swap” and “The Taste” has, at least temporarily, refocused my throbbing hate for TV executives from those at the Peacock to those at the… whatever the hell the abc logo is… the black circle with the “ABC” on it. Fuck you. You actually had two clever, funny, scripted comedies, and you rape/murdered them. If anything happens to “modern family”, tv shows won’t be the only things getting rape/murdered up in here.
how will I choose between this and shark tank
