As if to answer the all-important question, “Is a comedian REALLY a comedian, unless they’ve been on or will be on Arrested Development?” news broke yesterday that funny people Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogen will guest star as Young Lucille Bluth and Stunted Man Child #2, probably, when AD returns some time in the spring.
Former Saturday Night Live superstar Kristen Wiig is set to make an appearance in Netflix’s anticipated Arrested Development revival as a younger version of Jessica Walter’s boozy matriarch Lucille Bluth…As noted by Vulture, which first broke the news, AD leading man Jason Bateman likely orchestrated the casting coup, given his off screen friendship with Wiig (the pair co-starred in Extract and Paul).
In addition to Wiig, guest stars on tap for the relaunch include Seth Rogen, Liza Minnelli, Conan O’Brien, John Slattery (Mad Men), Chris Diamantopoulos (24), Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), and Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) [and all these people, too]. (Via)
Hm. Well, this is excellent news (though I’m not entirely sure if Wiig’s comedy style fits with the show’s), but until I hear the name “Gene Parmesan,” I still don’t think the AD reunion is happening. At least not in my heart.

Anyone else think they might have too many guests making an appearance?
Yeah…it’s starting to feel like the Cosby Show where they shoehorned in every celebrity Bill Cosby ever met.
Also, Kristen Wiig is overrated and unfunny,
Also, I will be watching season 4 of AD over and over and over, regardless of how many guest stars there are and who they are.
I feel the exact same way. At first some of the people they were listing I was on board with, but now I’m worried it’s just going to be cameo’s at every fucking turn. Maybe they’ll have them all in a room for one scene and be done with it.
AD had their fair share of guest stars in the TV run: Ben Stiller, Charlize Theron, Zach Braff, Andy Richter, Julia Louis-Dreyfus… They handle theie guest stars very well.
I think that’s perfect casting. I can’t wait to see Jessica Walter back in comedy by the way. She’s brilliant.
Mallory Archer is basically Lucille Bluth…
I’m assuming Wiig will fit just fine with what the writers have for her. It’s not like she’s going to bring one of her over-the-top SNL characters. Her character in Knocked Up, which I always forget about, was pretty great.
Seth Rogen… will be Seth Rogen. He’ll probably laugh too.
Wiig as young lucille!?!
that is going to be amazing.
