One of the most iconic comedic characters of the last 15 years is set to return next month. David Brent — the Ricky Gervais character from the original The Office — will return on The Office Revisited, a one-off special that will air on both the BBC and Ricky Gervais’ YouTube Channel during Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on March 15. As Gervais notes, “Who says famine has to be depressing?” The special picks up with Brent a decade after we last saw him (excluding his appearances on the U.S. The Office), and we learn that he’s still pursuing his career of being a musician, following the complete lack of success of his “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” music video.
The Office Revisited finds David working a menial job while pursuing his true dream: making it in the music business. “He is passing on his wisdom to younger would-be rock stars now and is living vicariously through a young performer, Dom Johnson,” said Gervais. “Well, really he is trying to worm his way back into rock and roll. Fans of The Office will be excited to know we finally get to hear the whole of ‘The Serpent Who Guards the Gates of Hell’ and an amazing Brent self-funded video, ‘Equality Street.’ Horrendous.”
There’s a promo clip from the upcoming show, with actual footage, and Brent is as cringe-worthy as usual. It’s not available for embed, because Gervais obviously wants you to subscribe to his YouTube Channel. But click on over (it’s only a minute long) and check it out.

what what what–do we know if any of the other office buddies will be back? FINCHY??
Pretty girl on the hood of a cadillac, yeah….
…she’s broken down on Freeway 9
It occurred to me, after seeing that particular episode, that I was watching not just an excellent show, but something altogether great.
The love is free and the freeway’s long
Anyone who tells me they didn’t like the UK Office gets the same question from me: “Did you make to Episode 4 [Training Day]?” If they tell me yes, I lose respect for them. If they tell me no, they’re told to start over.
I loved The Office UK, and … I don’t think I want anything to do with this. Ricky Gervais is not funny anymore. I’m not watching some self-indulgent, masturbatory piece of crap that doesn’t even involve the participation of the rest of the cast because Ricky Gervais’s fame is waning and he’s grasping at straws to make us pay attention to him again.
Yeah, I feel the same way about one off charity comedy sketches. Fuck those poor kids! My personal feelings towards a comedian are way more important.
The Office US and The Office UK are in separate canon. I wonder if the Michael Scott from the UK Office is still in Scranton since he never ran into David Brent in next to the elavator?
They are, and I prefer the US version. It just seems like the epitome of British comedy–excluding the hilarity of Top Gear–is to be socially awkward and a little weird.
