What should we expect from Seth MacFarlane as an Oscar host tomorrow? Well, a lot of singing, jokes that aren't nearly as edgy as he thinks they are, and smirks. Ugh, so many smirks, like a Wall Street worker who paid $500 to get two women to tell him how great he is. Clearly, we here at UPROXX aren't big MacFarlane fans ("like the time we put Seth's face on two box fans..."), with two exceptions: the ridiculously underrated American Dad! and Family Guy's Brian Griffin. Not Family Guy as a whole, but just Faster Than the Speed of Love author Brian, whose MacFarlane-like, high-horse douchiness is often undercut, making for one of the show's best recurring jokes.
That, and I like it when he acts like a dog.

I will use this post to say that I really love Bob’s Burgers, it’s been a superb season so far!
Also, Family Guy is the worst.
Well, I didn’t think it was possible, but after the Oscars, I now hate Seth MacFarlane even more.
His “boobs” song was one of the lamest and falsely provocative, while still being totally tasteless things I’ve ever endured.
Poor Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts seemed genuinely embarrassed.
And this is coming from a guy who thought the Daniel Tosh rape joke was hilarious, so not really a feminist here. There’s just a place and time for things, and more importantly: the song wasn’t funny at all.
And to think some people find his humor “edgy”, please!
(Also, did he think bringing a choir of gay men would make him look like less of a douche bag? gosh…)
I love Bob’s Burgers but call me crazy, but now I can’t get into Archer whatsoever because all I picture is BOB. =/
Damn it, you’re making me kind of want to watch the first seasons of Family Guy again, and that’ll just depress the hell out of me, and I’m caught in enough rewatch-ings right now as it is. As a side note, I really do wish AT was covered outside of Gifs of the Week. Love that series, and it’s frustrating that AV Club is the only provider of coverage on it, since the Uproxxers are generally much more tolerable than AV club’s commenters.
It’s actually kind of annoying to me that they’re shoehorning in the name rhymes of every episode of Community this season.
That’s just one of the problems. They’re shoehorning in every “in joke” into every episode of Community this season…

Love all the Seth MacFarlane hate around the blogosphere. Don’t get me wrong–if you honestly just don’t enjoy Family Guy/American Dad/Ted or any of his other works as much as others, then that’s fine. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. But if it’s because you think his style of humor is too edgy, then honestly, get over yourself. Comedy is about pushing buttons and cutting through the bullshit. Everything the man has created (other than “The Cleveland Show” and the awful live-action musical comedy revue they did) is hilarious. While I acknowledge that Family Guy hasn’t been at its best the past couple seasons, I’ll still take an average episode of Family Guy/American Dad over Happy Endings, Community, and any of the vanilla network comedies (HIMYM, Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, etc).
Keep hating on Seth MacFarlane if you want, he’s accomplished more than almost any other comedic writer in history. I enjoy his work, as do millions of his other fans. The words of overly-sensitive bloggers with tepid senses of humor aren’t enough to deter us from continuing to support Mr. MacFarlane. Good day, sirs and madams.
They actually were saying that it’s stuff that Seth himself thinks is edgy but sometimes isn’t. This is a site that loves stuff like Archer and Louie and those are shows that are way more edgy. If you don’t like Josh’s opinion on Family Guy you just need to let it go and accept it as just an opinion. A good day to you as well.

Hahaha, haters gonna hate! Not a Family Guy staffer nor am I getting paid, just defending a writer whose works I enjoy. It’s only sweeter when I get put up against blog commenters who’d rather watch a video of Alison Brie farting than legitimate comedy. Stay gold, Warming Glow! Seth’s gonna be around for a long, long time.

If you don’t like what’s on TV, change the channel. Same goes with blogs that you don’t like the opinions of. Go somewhere else.

You’ve got some serious communication issues.
No one dislikes MacFarlane because he’s attempting to be edgy, I dislike him because he’s lazy. The first 3 seasons of Family Guy were excellent, subversive and well thought out.
Nearly every episode since the original cancellation has just hit those same notes, over and over again. I’m tired of it.
This is just supposition on my part, but I’ll bet he is too. American Dad is as smart and funny as old Family Guy was, and Ted wasn’t as smart, but it was effectively edgy and hilarious. It wasn’t edgy for the sake of just pushing buttons, it was in service of a larger comedic statement or highlighting a certain pattern of behavior for laughs.
I think people just get frustrated with MacFarlane when he coasts, rather than pushing himself to be better. Because when he’s pushing himself to be better, he’s damn good.

So I marathon-watched all of Raising Hope this weekend. It’s fucking awesome.
I really enjoyed the early iteration of Family Guy back in the late 1990s. Keep in mind, that was a comedy dead zone from about 1997-2002*. Family Guy was really the only funny thing on TV at the time.
Seth is also pretty damn funny on those Comedy Central roasts.
