Southland (TNT, 10 p.m.) – Season Five premiere. Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) guest stars on a show that already includes Ben McKenzie (The O.C.). I have feelings about this. I won’t get into them here, but just know that I do.
The Americans (FX, 10 p.m.) – Margo Martindale (MAGS!) begins a multi-episode arc tonight as a KGB officer who delivers assignments to our main characters. I have feelings about this, too, and I am happy to discuss them here: I love it. I hope she tricks everyone at the FBI into drinking poisoned moonshine and Russia wins the Cold Wa-… I mean, uh, USA NUMBER ONE!
Modern Family/Suburgatory (ABC, 9 p.m.) – VALENTINE’S DAY EPISODES, Y’ALL. Sit down with your sweetie, watch these shows, then maybe surprise her with jewelry hidden under stacks of cash. Hey, it already worked once this week.
Whitney/Guys With Kids (NBC, 8 p.m.) – Nope.
Top Chef (Bravo, 10 p.m.) – I have missed this entire season because I already record so many things that I’m afraid my DVR is going to melt and get all over the floor and I’ll have to go buy a mop or something. Any of you been watching it? Fill me in, por favor.
Workaholics/Kroll Show (Comedy Central, 10 p.m.) – Maribeth Monroe, who plays Alice on Workaholics, has been in a sh-tload of commercials, and I finally just realized it’s her in the one DirectTV Genie ad. (Posted below.) You are welcome and/or probably knew that.
The Soup (E!, 10 p.m.) – Joel McHale seems like a pretty cool guy. Sure would be neat if we could get him for an UPROXX Live Q&A. I think that would be fun.
LATE NIGHT GUESTS: James Franco, Nigella Lawson, and Fall Out Boy on Kimmel; Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha on Letterman; Russell Brand and Allison Williams on Ferguson; Anne Hathaway and Lester Holt on Leno; Sarah Jessica Parker and Steve Harvey on Fallon; Dave Grohl on Colbert; and Matthew Morrison and Kathryn Bigelow on Conan.

If you’re not already watching The Americans, you should start.
Yay! Southland! Yay!
Yay!
Double yay!
Triple yay!
4xYay! And Ben McKenzie is pretty good on Southland.
My reaction to a Joel McHale Live Q&A would be something like this.
Or, pretty much the reaction I had when Jim Rash showed up.
Where were you for his AMA Patty?
Not so sure. Only time I ever saw Joel “off-script” was his appearance on Conan (2010-11?) Maybe it was nerves, but he was a total dick. (and I am a fan!)
I need the fucking genie. The Americans, Southland, Workaholics all starting @ 10. What to watch, what to record??
The good news is all those shows are on channels that replay the episodes later the same night. Yay, no stupid news broadcast.
And there’s always Hulu…
Whitney is way better than 2 Broke Girls…..
…that being said….it is ever so slowly getting better….and was always better than Up All Night..
Top Chef this season is fun and good and you should just read the recaps from your uproxx bretheren at KSK. Noone I normally read is doing it this season so Unsilent is really saving the lives of those who like recaps I guess.
also yay southland! but f-k you TV I’d love to see the outdoors and not just watch shows I love constantly
Yeah, this season has been better than the last one for sure. My only complaint was that they brought Josie back from season 2 and let her stick around all season. AND she got the hot asian chick sent home (who is probably gonna win last chance kitchen, so we will hopefully get her back). But they also brought back stefan and this cast has been generally likeable.
or yeah, just read Ufford’s recaps.
UGH to Josh. But yes to everything you just wrote, PC. Love Stephan and Kristin. I hope it is Kristin/Brooke in the finale. I did not watch last night’s ep yet so if this is no longer possible NOOOOOOO!
So, Southland is on sale at Wal-Mart (seasons 2, 3, and 4) for 40 bucks. Should I partake?
I’d definitely recommend it. Not sure if you’ve seen S1 so I’d start with that. If you have seen it, there’s no drop off in quality to worry about.
I actually think the characters that got cut because of the move to TNT were boring anyway, so the show improved.
the show definitely improved on TNT. it became much more a “slice of life” cop show.
Is it ok to be really attracted to Maribeth Monroe?
I’m only somewhat attracted to her, but I am VERY attracted to Alice.
Which probably says something weird about me.
Yes, yes it is.
Top Chef: Very much like all the other seasons (Not too many surprises, solid cooking overall, Padma Padma Padma). They brought back three people from previous seasons who didn’t quite make it: Josie (one of my least favorites), Stefon (Tuetonic wisecracking machine), and CJ (Extremely Tall, popular guy).
One of the favorites got eliminated in a challenge that was really the fault of someone else on their team. Like last season they are running a parallel online contest, Last Chance Kitchen, the winner of which gets back into the contest. It appears the new wrinkle is that they are also running a popularity poll where an eliminated person gets put back into Last Chance Kitchen AGAIN, with the ultimate winner going back into the contest. Confused? Yeh, it’s a little unnecessary.
All I know is Kristin-4-evah! She’s cute, exotic, articulate, and a great chef.
Here’s kind of a rundown of some of them (if you scroll down to the pictures).

Josie is the worst. THAT CACKLE. Ick.
The Americans would have been terrific had it been a “ripped from the headlines” version of that spy ring in 2010. Well, if it was headlines and the Kardashians or some other trash wasn’t front page.
But I’ll settle for very, very good.
I can’t properly explain how retarded Modern Family is. What a piece of shit
I missed a majority of Workaholics last season (SO MANY SHOWS), but I have DirecTV and I noticed that when I mean to record new episodes of a show, it’ll record like ALL and ANY episodes if that channel shows reruns (like CC often does). So I accidentally recorded like 10 Workaholics episodes from last season & watched them all in one night. Greatest accident, ever.
