Don’t let the smirks and unstained clothes fool you — the Hold Steady is one of the drunkest, rowdiest, greatest bar bands out there, making them a perfect fit to perform a song from the Game of Thrones universe that’s often sung while drunk and rowdy during season two of the HBO series. Also, there’s a bear.
The band will perform “The Bear and the Maiden Fair,” with lyrics by Martin and music by composer Ramin Djawadi. Last year, the National recorded Martin’s “The Rains of Castemere” for season two.
“As with the National, we went after one of our favorite bands and were happily surprised when they agreed to do it,” said showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. “This is one of the most popular songs in Westeros, beloved by nobles and commoners alike, sung at taverns and feasts and etc. We wanted our rendition to be bawdy and a little sloppy — drunken musicians getting up on the table and jamming while the rowdy party continues around them. There was no one better for the job than the Hold Steady.” (Via)
Indeed. Here’s a visual representation of a Hold Steady song.

Except replace wine with beer. Also, more beer.

I hope you’ll still let me kiss you
Stevie Nix for me.
/wait, when did this turn into a draft of Hold Steady songs?
it’s like picking a favorite child, i’m just not sure i could do it and my answer would change every day. today, it’s Charlemagne In Sweatpants just for the final verse
do you want me to tell it like boy meets girl and the rest is history?
or do you want it like a murder mystery?
i’m gonna tell it like a comeback story.
’cause we when we left we were defeated and depressed.
and when we arrived we were ripping high.
we had a gun in the glovebox.
we had some sweet stuff tucked into our socks.
and Jesus Christ in all His glory
he’s a fucking poet
But Hurricane Jessie,as I’ve imagined her, looks a lot like Danerys
Every summer (constructive?) I hope and pray a horse named Chips Ahoy runs at Saratoga. Preferably it will be the 5th horse in the 6th race. I will bet $900 and be overjoyed if it hits.

Someday I want to get hauled into the ER drinking gin from a jam jar.
same here @Upstate
It will be interesting to see if this song turns out well. I absolutely loved Hold Steady’s frist four albums, but once Franz Nicolay left the band I felt like the music quality went way way down hill. I didn’t think there was a single interesting song on tthe one album they did since he left, 2010′s “Heaven is Whereever”.
Hopefully writing about dragons and peter dinklage can breath new life into the band.
Boys & Girls in America was my favorite album of the previous decade.
You don’t have to deal with the Dothraki, let your boyfriend deal with the Dothraki…
Arya was a hoodrat, but now you finally know that.
Pitchfork is reporting they’re going to release the song on 7″ vinyl on Record Store Day, April 20th.
Not sure I can picture this. But then I’d have had trouble picturing Rains of Castamere before I heard it, and that was awesome.
How did we get this far without the inevitable “Killer Parties” “Red Wedding” mashup?
You should definitely check Irish Moutarde’s celtic rock version of The Bear and the Maiden Fair!

I know this thread is pretty old but it’s the newest under the GoT tag so here goes: Mac from “It’s Always Sunny” is hosting a Game of Thrones panel at the emmys with Dinkledge, Martin and other VIPs!
