Earlier today we told you that Joy Behar would be leaving The View at the end of this season. When that post went live, I said to myself, “Well, that should be it for our coverage of The View for the next infinity forever, I suppose.” INCORRECT. We are doing another post about The View less than eight hours later, because a source says they are getting rid of Elisabeth Hasselbeck after nine years because the audience fnds her “too extreme and right wing.”
The people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC’s daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.
According to the source, the show’s resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn’t popular with TV audiences. [US Weekly]
It’s after 4 p.m. on a Friday so there is zero chance I am going to start turning the crank on the old political flame war machine, especially for a story about The View, so I’ll just leave you with these two thoughts: 1) They’ll never ever ever say yes because they are good and decent people with successful careers who would never stoop to a career in daytime yapping, but ABC should be literally throwing money at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler right now on the off chance they’re super drunk and and in an agreeable mood. 2) This tweet, by Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, might be the funniest thing ever. Shoutout to Whoopi Goldbird, indeed.

UPDATE: ABC released a statement saying “Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract,” so maybe she’s not leaving now. Who knows? NOT ME, THAT’S FOR SURE. In lieu of any further analysis, here’s the music video for “Shoop.”

Wait, they’re just now figuring this out?
On a side note, I used to live around the corner from where they filmed The View, and I was always amazed at the line for that thing. People actually want to watch it. Live. In the studio.
Mind. Blown.
Fox News gives her a show in 3…2…1…
I’d be surprised if she didn’t have an hour spot somewhere around O’Reilly by the end of the week.
This will absolutely happen. She’s a hot blonde who can read the script.
I think Cajun Boy was correct, in that it happened approximately zero seconds after his comment posted.
Looks like Doocy has a replacement for Gretchen!
guh at least it’s better to have them all in one place and not scattered around where we could bump into biggotry unexpectedly…
Hasselbeck “too extreme and right wing?” I guess it’s all relative, sure this might be true for The View and their audience, but when I think of people being “too extreme and right wing” she is not one of the first 100,000 people I think off.
Yeah, she seems dim but … eh, maybe by daytime TV standards she’s out there.
She’s said some stupid things, but then again she’s a reality TV star married to a football player. I don’t expect her to be able to facilitate a high level discussion on heavy matters.
As someone who has seen her speak before, yeah, she’s pretty dumb. She doesn’t fall into that Bill O’Reilly class where she’s actually smart, but not agreeable. But she doesn’t also fall into that Glenn Beck class where she pretends to believe stuff because it makes her money. Nope, she just has no clue what the hell she’s talking about, all the time.
So the conservative was kicked off the show based on feedback from the market?
Oh, the irony.
cracked me up.
Isn’t that the opposite of irony?
It’s pretty much the definition of irony, retard.
Wow…I thought her husband would be jobless before she would.
Cry cry* whats wrong left wing can’t take the heat? I guess theres a reason why I stopped watching tv
Did you read the post? It was a business decision. They polled their audience, and the audience didn’t like her.
I’ve seen her a few times, and from the little I saw, it definitely wasn’t that the liberals on the show were overwhelmed by her skillful arguments and masterful debating style. I’m surprised she never swallowed her own tongue on the air.
I’m still waiting to see what the footnote to “Cry cry” is.
Red State…..
…just imagine the demographic of the show.. ….home all day with nothing to do….
Like teabaggers who post on yahoo boards?
I love people who register for uproxx accounts to post 1 comment based solely on the title of a post.
Holy crap, Otto. That last line literally made me spit out my coffee.
Otto nailed it….
You need her there to argue. If all that’s left is a bunch of women agreeing with one another then its gonna be really boring. Just because a focus group doesn’t like her, that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be there.
I’m pretty sure The View was never solving any of the world’s problems. It’s a daytime talk show, not a think tank.
I agree completely. But if I were a conservative, I’d have been picketing ages ago to have someone better able to represent my side of the political divide on the show.
She’s like the liberal sacrificial lambs they trot out on Fox News shows — milquetoast whimperer Alan Colmes and that bloated old guy on “The Five.”
I agree. Isn’t the point of the show to have them discussing things? Like you said now it is just them agreeing.
She would not take no for an answer though, would make everything political even when it wasn’t, and would refuse to drop a topic even after they had moved on.
…God I’ve seen too much of The View.
So how long until the three way sex tape alluded to in that tweet leaks out?
Think of how much more awesome the wrestler would be if he went by Goldbird.
Maybe now she is free to go back on Survivor?
I’m reminded of a line from Inglorious Basterds, “say goodbye to your nazi balls.” I think this applies here as well.
keep in mind, they have a panelist who “isn’t sure” if the world is round or flat and even THAT isn’t too extreme when compared to hassleback.

OF COURSE it’s Danger. You never disappoint, DG.
Star Trek (The Original Series) on the air for 3 seasons.
The View: On the air for 16 (going on 17) years.
Kill. Me. Now.
Sem-unrelated, but it’s funny how 40+ years ago NBC screwed up promoting TOS almost like the problems they have today with Community, Grimm etc
