Elisabeth Hasselbeck Is Out At ‘The View’ For Being ‘Too Extreme And Right Wing’ (UPDATE: Maybe Not?)

Earlier today we told you that Joy Behar would be leaving The View at the end of this season. When that post went live, I said to myself, “Well, that should be it for our coverage of The View for the next infinity forever, I suppose.” INCORRECT. We are doing another post about The View less than eight hours later, because a source says they are getting rid of Elisabeth Hasselbeck after nine years because the audience fnds her “too extreme and right wing.”

The people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC’s daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly.

According to the source, the show’s resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn’t popular with TV audiences. [US Weekly]

It’s after 4 p.m. on a Friday so there is zero chance I am going to start turning the crank on the old political flame war machine, especially for a story about The View, so I’ll just leave you with these two thoughts: 1) They’ll never ever ever say yes because they are good and decent people with successful careers who would never stoop to a career in daytime yapping, but ABC should be literally throwing money at Tina Fey and Amy Poehler right now on the off chance they’re super drunk and and in an agreeable mood. 2) This tweet, by Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, might be the funniest thing ever. Shoutout to Whoopi Goldbird, indeed.

UPDATE: ABC released a statement saying “Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a valued member of The View and has a long term contract,” so maybe she’s not leaving now. Who knows? NOT ME, THAT’S FOR SURE. In lieu of any further analysis, here’s the music video for “Shoop.”
