As we discussed yesterday, Jay Leno and NBC Top Banana Bob Greenblatt recently exchanged “pointed” emails about some incredibly bland softballs Leno served up regarding the network’s struggles in the ratings. (This is not a mixed metaphor. I am implying Jay Leno’s monologue jokes have all the spice and flavor of an actual softball.) Well now it looks like Leno has upped the ante with another zinger.
In last night’s monologue, the comedian took another swipe at the network during a joke about St. Patrick’s Day: “You know the whole legend of St. Patrick, right? St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, and then they came into the United States and became NBC executives.” [EW]

Oh, I’m sorry. I must have nodded off in the middle of this story. How unprofessional of me. In my defense, it’s a little hard to get emotionally invested in a kerfuffle over a bunch of groaner jokes told by a guy who pushed two deserving hosts out of a gig they earned, especially when the jokes are apparently at the expense of a guy who can’t take even the mildest ribbing over an obvious issue without zipping off an email to complain about it. Just thinking about trying to choose a side in this whole thing is making me drowsy. You know what? I’ll go put on a put of coffee. Maybe that will help me stay awak…

Just thinking about trying to choose a side in this whole thing is making me drowsy.
I’m Team Univision. In fact, I hope they give Don Francisco a nightly show and he trounces Leno in the ratings.
The solution is obvious: Put these two in the Thunderdome. Either NBC gets some new leadership or loses an albatross, and the ratings would be enormous
BRING BACK CONAN!
*CLAP* *CLAP* *CLAP-CLAP-CLAP*
So they replace Leno with Fallon. Then they plug Stern into Fallon’s old spot. Stern would never buck the system. Problem solved!
I know we like to enjoy a good ripping of ol Mammoth Chin here, but this seems a fishy to me. Late Night hosts always make fun of their own networks, especially if they are lagging behind what they use to do.
Is Bob Greenblatt really pissed? Or is the runner of the worse viewed network and a mediocre host with slipping ratings trying to drop hints of a “feud” so that people will pay attention to them.
While I think Greenblatt is being a toddler with a skinned knee I think it’s pretty rich for Leno to rip on someone about being a snake. Motherfucker, he ruined his network to keep you!
If this leads to Leno not caring and bashing the ever loving shit out of NBC and ultimately leads to his firing, I could actually get behind supporting Leno.
Someone find the clicker and turn it back to UHF.
I heard that they finally picked up Fun With Dirt, should be an interesting summer on U-62
I would watch the shit out of Uncle Nutzy’s Clubhouse.
My favorite is the rumor that Howard Stern is going to replace him.
