Jay Leno Called NBC Executives ‘Snakes,’ So Things Are Getting Pretty Seriozzzzzzzzzzzzzz

As we discussed yesterday, Jay Leno and NBC Top Banana Bob Greenblatt recently exchanged “pointed” emails about some incredibly bland softballs Leno served up regarding the network’s struggles in the ratings. (This is not a mixed metaphor. I am implying Jay Leno’s monologue jokes have all the spice and flavor of an actual softball.) Well now it looks like Leno has upped the ante with another zinger.

In last night’s monologue, the comedian took another swipe at the network during a joke about St. Patrick’s Day: “You know the whole legend of St. Patrick, right? St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, and then they came into the United States and became NBC executives.” [EW]

Oh, I’m sorry. I must have nodded off in the middle of this story. How unprofessional of me. In my defense, it’s a little hard to get emotionally invested in a kerfuffle over a bunch of groaner jokes told by a guy who pushed two deserving hosts out of a gig they earned, especially when the jokes are apparently at the expense of a guy who can’t take even the mildest ribbing over an obvious issue without zipping off an email to complain about it. Just thinking about trying to choose a side in this whole thing is making me drowsy. You know what? I’ll go put on a put of coffee. Maybe that will help me stay awak…
