So J.J. Abrams is producing this new futuristic cop show cooking for Fox, but there’s hardly any information about it out there at this point. All we knew before today was (1) It is set in the “not too distant future,” (2) It is about cops, (3) Each of whom are assigned a “highly evolved human-like android” as their partner, (4) Fringe showrunner J.H. Wyman wrote the script and will be handling the day-to-day showrunning responsibilities, and (5) The guy from Common Law will play one of the robot cops, which, coincidentally, is also what I’ve decided to call the as-yet-untitled show. (“Coming this Fall to Fox … Robot Cops! [explosion, laser sound effects, explosion]“)
Well now we know a sixth thing, because Deadline reported today that former Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly will co-star as one of the ladycops. But will she have a strong moral compass and believe the best of people?
Kelly, repped by Management 360 and CAA, will play Valerie Stahl, a uniformed cop with a strong moral compass who believes the best of people. [Deadline]
Oh.
Anyway, since we don’t really know anything else about the show, allow me to submit this brief sample scene in case they’re looking for writers:
Robot Cop: BLEEP BLORP Oh no, Officer Valerie Stahl. You’ve been shot! BLORP BZZZZZZ WOMPWOMP
Valerie Stahl: It’s okay, Robot Cop. It hit my vest.
Robot Cop: BLORP BLEEP Thank God! I was so worried!
Valerie Stahl: Robot Cop … are you feeling emotions?
Robot Cop: BZZZZZGONK Is that what this is?
Valerie Stahl: You better not start crying on me, pal.
Robot Cop: BLEEPBLEEP I know, I’ll fry my motherboard! BLORPGORPBZZZZZ
[all laugh, credits roll]

Finally a show I can get behind.
This would be so much better if she was a racist dirty cop. She should be the granddaughter of Harvey Keitel’s Bad Lieutenant.
I don’t understand why they have to make her boring just because she’s pretty.
When you realize that most TV shows are written by socially awkward men, the whole “boring/pretty” thing makes a little more sense.
CopperBotz
The Blue and The Grey
Cans and Worm Food
Man, I suck at this.
Man, I suck at this is pretty terrible. The other 3 aren’t bad though.
Ooh, Minka Kelly, my favorite celebrity that said a single word to me one time at a concert!
Also, why were robot cops programmed to feel pain?
That scene reads like a play from The Gutt’s place.
She needs to be a robot cop. A sexy robot cop. A sexy robot cop who breaks all the rules.
Yes and the show should also be on Showtime instead of Fox.
Joey was ahead of his time I guess…RIP Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E
I’ve seen her act. The robot cops will be more capable of displaying believable human emotions.
Good looks aside, she has absolutely zero charisma or swagger. Watching her play a cop will be laughable. With the exception of Fringe and Lost, Abrams’ shows have real problems casting interesting actors.
I liked this idea better when it was called “Mann and Machine”.
