Apparently someone went ahead and made today my damn birthday, because Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA has been cast in a new Fox pilot that’s being written by Chris Morgan, the mind behind the last three Fast & Furious movies (and the upcoming Fast 6). Tell me more about this show IMMEDIATELY.
Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Charlie’s Angels’ Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member sent to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department and rise through its ranks. He must balance his obligations to his crime family — the gang from his old neighborhood — with an increasing sense of loyalty to his new “family,” the SFPD’s Gang Task Force.
RZA will play Cassius, Ryan’s partner and best friend on the Gang Task Force. He decided to become a cop after the object of his affection was gunned down. The community’s ambivalence toward her death drives him to seek justice in a world that seems to have stopped caring. [THR]
Sooooooo basically this is Matt Damon’s half of The Departed, set on the West Coast, with RZA in the Mark Wahlberg role, and the whole thing is being written by the man who once put the words “This just went from Mission: Impossible to Mission: IN-FREAKING-SANITY” in Tyrese’s mouth? That is what is happening here, yes?

Over / Under on how many times RZA says ‘bong bong’ in the first 5 episodes: 3. I’m taking the over.
San Francisco has gangs? What do they do, terrorize neighborhoods by carrying their groceries in plastic bags?
san fran has crazy gangs, Oakland is right there plus they have triads and shit.
the only way this could be any better was if RZA’s character was named BOBBY BOULDERS.
RZA’s involvement aside (which is awesome, obviously), the premise of this show sounds pretty interesting. Though considering who is writing it, I’m guessing this show won’t be all that nuanced.
Car chase, car chase, explosion, bikinis.
Also, RZA would probably produce/record the theme song which could be great.
I’ll take two, please.
I love all the ideas of this, except “that’s being written by Chris Morgan, the mind behind the last three Fast & Furious movies.”
After his performance in Man with the Iron Fists, I’ll take a pass.
It was Oscar worthy son.. Bong Bong
So it’s going to be like Romeo Must Die with our POV on the cops instead of Aaliyah? OK cool.
