After another hour of solid drama in last night’s The Walking Dead, the plot still hasn’t progressed much, as each side in the Woodbury versus The Prison solidifies its position in the chess match leading to season’s final showdown (there are three episodes remaining after last night). What we did learn, however, is that one side is willing to seek a peace — or at least pretend that it will — if the other side gives up their Queen piece.
Let’s jump straight into the episode.
If you skip over all the scattered moments in between characters from both sides in last night’s episode, “Arrow on the Doorpost,” there was only one major revelation to come out of the episode: The Governor said he will agree to leave Rick to his prison if he’ll simply hand over Michonne, with whom The Governor has a major beef on account of Michonne killing his beloved zombie child and because Michonne took his eye.

That revelation, however, puts last week’s stellar episode into an even better perspective: They needed to make Michonne a more likable and thoughtful character so the decision whether to hand Michonne over to The Governor and face certain death, or put the lives of everyone in the prison at risk, would be a more difficult one for Rick.

Ultimately, we know it won’t matter whether Rick hands Michonne over or not. The Governor has made up his mind: He’s going to (try to) “slaughter” the prison gang, but the dilemma he’s posed for Rick is brilliant strategically. If Rick gives up Michonne, not only does The Governor get his revenge, but the prison would be without its strongest fighter, making it all the more easy for his Woodbury army to pick them off. On the other hand, if Rick decides against handing over Michonne, the rest of the prison gang is certain to find out and the risk he posed to all is all on behalf of one is certain to rankle the troops.

Goddamnit i just earned Andrea. The writers better be making her the most hated on character on the show to set her death up. No one likes that complaining whiny whore dicknose buttface.
The Uproxx crew dropped the ball when they made an Andrea badge. Shoulda been the first unlock, or not at all.
Goddamn it. That post unlocked the Lori badge for me.
interesting that the governor wants michonne instead of taking over the prison. too bad the minute that michonne sees the governor, his other eye might be going bye-bye.
The governed already stated that he wouldn’t want to move into the prison. He said what made Woodbury so great is that it gave some semblance of a normal life.
so michonne is the gangs strongest asset? what about Rick? Darryl? Merryl? s
Anybody think the possibility of Merle n Michonne hooking up is better than what some think. I think it would make for an interesting turn of events.
a i the only one who thought “hmm mexican guy is good at swinging bats AND smokes menthols — what makes you think Army Darryl? he’s just being mexican!
#IKnowThatWasRacistButWeAllThoughtThat
Anyone else laugh when Rick called him “Guvnur”. Seemed childish to make fun of his name, but also one of the first things I would’ve done.
I thought it was a strong episode. I enjoyed some depth given to the Latin Henchman and I like the turn for the Governor’s peabody-like lackey (much like real life, I deal in basic descriptions as opposed to names).
It won’t happen but I still want that flipping kid to die, I’ve even forgotten his name.
You want season 3 Carl to die? Are you high? Season 3 Carl is a Judd Nelson in Breakfast Club level badass.
I would be ok with Carl dying. Then we would have less instances of Rick yelling at him because he wanders off like a dumbass. I could see a scenario where he wonders off and the governor picks him up and holds him hostage. I hated Michonne so I always wanted her to die, but she is slowly growing on me. Still wouldn’t be upset if she ended up paying a visit to the spirit in the sky though.
What We Learned From Last Night’s D*ck-Swinging Episode. Classic headline!! hahahahahahahahahaahhaahahaha
Although Michone is a great zombie fighter, the real fight will be with guns and she has yet to prove/show she is any good with them. So I wouldn’t say she is their strongest fighter. Rick and Daryl probably are. Also how would you not take Merle to the “Meet”. He has inside info, and could tell Rick when the gov was lying and also tell dumb ass Andrea what her man is really like. I can see Merle getting off’ed protecting his bro, since the rest of the gang seems untouchable as far as character deaths go. They also need to build up the story line of how the gov convinces i people to kill all of Rick’s people. In the Comics gov rules thru fear and wit an iron fist, but tis gov seems more “normal” to his people.
Michonne seems to be more of a ninja/scout type.
And I just got her badge
I could’ve sworn I saw her shoot one of those AR-15′s once. Couldn’t pinpoint where though…
Oh and chance to see Maggie’s panties was worth it too… God there is something wrong with me.
She seems to be in her bra at least half the time
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
The soundtrack was great for this episode, especially when Rick is addressing the troops and says they’re going to war.
Lead me Home by Jamie N Commons
Yes. That song set the tone for that scene perfectly.
That’s funny. First TWD I Shazam-ed for that song.
For a split second i thought he was going to ask Rick for the baby instead of Mich…
I was right there with you expecting the same thing at first.
i thought that asking for the baby was
maybe on the table for the writers, but
i think it would have been too ‘crazy’ a
request by the governor…he’s not that
dumb a strategist to ask something rick
would not think twice about…no WAY
he’s giving up his child…but michonne…
the gov makes rick waste energy thinking…
My thoughts exactly
My predictions: Milton betrays the Governor, and joins the prison gang (or dies trying). Merle may die (or disappear for a while again).
As for a major character dying? The Governor seems like a pretty major character to me.
The absolute best part of the episode is how the two of them come up with this truce/agreement, then go home and proceed to fuck the other one over. Are we so sure that The Governor is the bad guy? Rick seems just as bad in some instances.
Exactly what agreement did they come to? One asked for a concession from the other that would be considered and possibly agreed upon at a later date. The Governor had no intention of adhering to any agreement. Rick knows this and is preparing his group.
Rick is no holy angel that’s for sure, but I think they’ve made it pretty clear that The Guvnor makes the majority of his decisions based on himself and Rick makes the majority (not all) of his decisions for what is best for the Prison gang.
Rick may have made some pretty harsh decisions, but at least he agonizes over them a little bit. The Governor just busts them right out with no hesitation whatsoever. Either one is arguably a better trait in a leader, I suppose.
I don’t think they could drop Glen yet… It’s too premature, he hasn’t fully gotten everybody to love him yet (a la Charlie on Lost), they’re getting there, but not yet. I think it’ll probably be either Andrea or Herschel.
I’m almost certain Herschel will die, and possibly Beth? I don’t think we’re lucky enough to have Laurie and Andrea die in the same season.
Agreed on Herschel but Maggie could be a wild catd
Card
Also, like I mentioned in the last ‘The Americans’ discussion, the people who read these have, for the most part, already watched the episode. We don’t need a HS essay recap. Take a page out of Danger’s book. Give us one page of highlights, then some Gifs, and get out of the way of the discussion. Not sure I’ve been more bored reading about a show I love in my life.
There’s not many shows that make better use of tense music and silence than TWD.
Man i feel like im the only fan that misses shane. He would be awesome in this season. or it wwouldve been cool for him to go off and leave with randall and meet up at woodbury.
I thought this episode was a snooze fest, personally.
Zzzzzzz…..huh? What happened? Is Andrea dead yet? No?
OK. Zzzzzzz….
I agree with you. Last week’s, amazing. This week, not so much.
Snoozed through Maggie’s sex scene? I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.
I agree, couldn’t pay attention. I don’t watch this show to see two men pussyfoot around a fight. I watch it to see zombies get their dicks kicked in, to see Glenn pound Maggie (finally!), and to hear Rick talk about thingssss and stuff. Thats it, that’s all i have ever wanted.
Pretty okay episode, I liked the soundtrack and stuff, but a lot of it wasn’t as compelling as the last episode.
This show absolutely has its shortcomings, but dammit if it isn’t one of the most entertaining hours on television.
Maybe you were watching Vikings……. that was a better episode than the walking dead this week……..or maybe i mean weak……..
Don’t forget Glenn manning up considerably and then running off to bang Maggie instead of staring at zombies all day. Was anyone else surprised that didn’t end up being a huge mistake?
Yeah, I was waiting for Merle to cut out while they were banging, zombies to attack, something. I think I am glad they didn’t let anything happen. Just two lovestruck kiddos getting their post-apocalyptic freak on.
I thought for sure one of them was gonna get shot or Maggie was going to get her bra bit off by a zombie
At least someone walking in on them…but nope. Good to have a fake out sometimes.
Anyone else find it interesting that Maggie didn’t say “I love you” back to Glenn? I’m pretty sure she has said it to him before.
Rick can’t give up Michonne because it will ruin the group’s morale. It shows that everyone is expendable given any circumstance. Even if the Governor wasn’t full of shit, it wouldn’t stop him from asking to have Merle, which would lead to Merle and Daryl leaving, making the Jail group slim pickings.
And right when you think Rick is using his bullshit detector on the governor, they kind of ruin it with his talk to Hershel. Oh Rick. Still a good episode.
yea… ptsd from all the ghost viewing from previous episodes……
I had a moment where after Rick told the prison group where it was going to be a war, where I was like, “YES! You saw through the BS, did not give into the fake offer, and did not let the Governor break up your group like he was trying to with that deal.” It was smart, and Governor was clearly full of shit and will butcher you all. And then, he told Hershel he was considering it in the next scene. Facepalm
Agreed
You’d think a good cop like Rick would be able to detect the bullshit of a guy who can’t keep a straight face.
Who ever said he was a *good* cop?
well he was sheriff, he had to be the best of the bunch at least
I think you’re reading it wrong. Rick KNOWS that the Governor will kill them all, even if he gives up Michonne. Hell, he said as much to Hershel. But he’s also torn – and in this case betrayed by – hope, the hope that they don’t have to die. Because Rick also understands that the Governor was right when he told Rick that it was all about numbers. The prison gang is too small to launch another attack on Woodbury, and holding out in the prison only forestalls the inevitable, they’re too pinned in and undermanned. And running is too much of a crapshoot. Rick has NO GOOD OPTIONS, which is why he is willing to cling to the least bad among them; but it’s always why he needs someone he trusts to talk him out of it.
My guess is Rick’s group will stage a hand off to Guv, and use that as their first strike on Woodbury.
LOL Beth shooting the ceiling.
At least she didn’t break into song.
shooting at the ceiling and waking up little asskicker
speaking of which Why the eff is the baby never around crying or anything?
If those people have any sense that Baby is chewing on a sock 23.5 hours a day.
I was hoping Andrea would go back to Woodbury, just to put some of her newfound doubt into Tyreese and his girl and make them fight for the good side.
The other two guys in their group can die, though.
Judging from the preview of next weeks episode, it looks like she does just that.
I think it’s in the “next week in AMC’s the Walking Dead”… but I also thought it was in last week’s sneak peek.
Yeah, the “next time” confirmed my hope, or at least teased it.
extremely disappointed by the lack of Tyreese and Co. We’ve seen them for what? 25 min total? I think Axel and Three-Dog have gotten more time and characterization so far
If Tyreese were to be killed off next episode, i would hardly think the non-comic reading fans of the show would care, and why should they. He’s getting absolutely no time.
I agree. I haven’t read the comics, so I don’t really care about the character. But I like the actor, so I’d like to him get some more screen time.
i only care about tyreese is because i’ve given him cutty’s backstory. He was a boxing instructor and ex-gang member from b’more before the zombie apocolypse.
I care about Tyreese in the sense that if they just utterly waste Chad fucking Coleman like that, I will be royally pissed, especially since I only just finished season 3 of The Wire. God, I love Cutty. And he does such a good job in that role.
im pretty positive darryl is gonna die AFTER Andrea of course
I’ve given Andrew Lincoln a lot of shit for what I saw as his shortcomings as an actor, but dude killed it last night and I guess I will begrudgingly admit he’s been pretty good at times this season.
But last night he was fucking great.
When he mentioned he listens to The Black Keys to get into character it made me like him a little bit more.
He apparently found some shampoo and a comb last night.
My first thought when Maggie and Glen started to get it on was “When was the last time I saw a toothbrush on this show?”
Kind killed it for me.
other than the 2 episode crazy spell that hasn’t done much, Lincoln has been super pretty much since Mazzara took over, it seems like
@ Lunchbox Yeah, un-showered, dirty, musty sex doesn’t do it for me.
The un-showered sex is fine, it’s the kissing that made me gag.
Don’t prisons have toothbrushes of some sort? In the commissary?
Anyway, in that kind of situation, garbage mouth would probably be the least of my worries. Got to get it in when/where you can.
dude, I dont care if Maggie had NEVER brushed her teeth, id still smash that! Even if zombies were practically joining in, id STILL smash that….
@ lunchbox20. That’s the only thing that crosses my mind anytime ANY of the characters get withing breathing distance of each other.
I got my money on Merle being the main character that dies (does Merle count as a major player at this point?) anyway, i got him or Hershel dying. Just can’t see Glenn or Andrea going anywhere.
I can see Andrea going somewhere. Then again, that may just be hope…
I really hope it’s Merle. I don’t like him, and I think he pulls Daryl in a boring direction.
I would settle for Andrea, though.
I actually like Merle, I think he’s the perfect sh*thead the group needs to get the nasty jobs done and tell it as it is. He was right in wanting to go for the Governor and he is right in saying they should strike 1st. Here’s hoping Hershel pops off. He bores the life outta me.
I don’t see Merle dying, I think they need him around to cause ruffles in the prison crew, whenever everyone agrees, Merle needs to be around to disagree.
I could see Andrea dying, as I don’t see how she’s going to be useful after this season. (Well honestly, she hasn’t been useful in a couple of seasons). The only way she could ever redeem herself in my eyes is if she died sacrificing herself to save Michonne, a way of penance for betraying her and staying with Woodbury.
Speaking of usefulness, wtf is Carol doing lately?
I’m thinking Merle gets offed too, but think he’ll get killed doing something heroic to save Daryl or somebody from the Governor just so he isn’t remembered as a complete dick. Hershel is another good candidate, maybe trying to save one of his daughters during an attack or something.
Merle’s character’s a drag, but there’s a lot of promise in there and Rooker’s a pretty awesome actor. If it were a vote, I’d be very against killing Merle.
I could see Merle and Hershel dying and Michonne becoming a POW in the finale. Obviously, Mayberry gets the win in my scenario.
I’d be against Merle dying too, i like him. Just see it happening, doing something heroic like thats been said above.
No way Andrea makes it out of this season. She banged pure Evil and now has to redeem herself….which always results in said redeemer dying
If Daryl dies, we riot.
Otherwise, I’m pretty good with whoever else buys it.
We all want Andrea to go………………
As I said in a comment above, I am certain Herschel will die, possibly Beth too. I could see Merle dying (It’d have to be in some “redeeming fashion”.
Andrea will probably be the one to kill the Governor, as her form of redemption for being a complete idiot all season. I hope I’m wrong on that one though.
I’m thinking Beth or Carol are next to go . . . they only need one nanny to take care of the baby.
I can guarantee that Andrea will die before the season is over. I’d be willing to put up 1 million virtual dollars for it. But a carol death would be interesting. Do you think Darryl would finally show her some sort of affection while on her death bed? Would he be the one to put her down? Do you think she would die sacrificing herself for him?
The show has done an amazing job of making me want the Governor dead. It is nice to have a show where the bad guy really is a bad guy. People around him are being given reasons to look twice at him and that makes the show so fun to follow since I have no real idea how they are going to wrap up this season. Kudos.
I get the feeling that more and more people are getting suspicious of him. Milton, Caesar, it’s like slowly everyone is realizing he’s bad news.
I feel the opposite, I expected him to be a lot worse than they’ve portrayed him.
VV you read the books?
The Governor is much more sadistic in the comic books. I haven’t read them, but I hear he does things you can’t exactly show on television, at least not on cable.
I think the writers have done a good job working with what they could.
@Lunch Yea, I guess I was expecting him to be closer to his Comic counterpart where there were no redeeming qualities or traits. He was pretty transparent as an absolute sadist.
the governor is infinitely more sinister in the comics…..and Andrea is infinitely more badass. Its a shame they have made her character so terrible in the show…
The Governor is so stupidly written in the comics. . That description would be accurate, Vega. He has no redeeming traits whatsoever. He’s just a cartoonishly villainous sadist. In what way is he an effective or interesting character?
@ Board I can appreciate straight up villany sometimes. A bad guy doesn’t always have to be a tortured soul and have an interesting backstory to me. Sometimes they can just be fucked up and do evil things and that’s enough.
The Governor’s a total monster in the comics. In the show it’s a complete 180, and he’s less interesting because he has too many redeeming qualities. True both hold that he’s a largely self-absorbed prick.
Doesn’t help that I finally watched Zombieland the night before. Woody Harrelson’s character in that goes through nearly the same character arc and comes out awesome. The answer, clearly, is that the Governor did not have enough Bill Murray in his life.
@Vega In a comedy, maybe. Otherwise, I just don’t understand what’s there to enjoy or interest you about him. I really do believe villains have to be humanized, not necessarily that they have to be sympathetic or even particularly redeemable, just in the sense that there’s an identity and reason to them. Joffrey in GoT/ASOIAF isn’t even remotely a sympathetic or redeemable character, but there’s a very definite reason for why he is the way he is that fits within the realm of that universe. I find him to be genuinely compelling, unlike that version of the Governor. There is no proper development or reason to him. He’s a bloody cartoon character. And not even an entertainingly cartoonish villain. He’s. . .boring.
Seriously, what is this ‘too redeemable/too many redeeming qualities’ nonsense? The show’s Governor isn’t even that redeemable, he keeps that goddamn zombie head fish tank for. .what reason exactly? To look at them when he’s alone and probably cackle maniacally? Are they supposed to somehow relate to the experiments Milton is doing?
Thematically, unification of Woodbury and The Prison Gang(tm) would be a failure for the show. Stability does not breed enough conflict. Instead I expect the city will be severely damaged, the prison will be uninhabitable, and the surviving major players will move on to somewhere else, although it’s possible to relocation could be early next season if they give them a clean victory and want to start next season with the upheaval.
I think the first 20 minutes of the show was pretty tense. Anytime you put them in close proximity with nothing to keep them from going after one another, you have some serious tension. The later amiable interactions defused that and in a way it’s kind of unfortunate.
But does anyone actually think unification was ever even possible? I never thought so.
No one who has ever watched a TV show or movie, no.
I did like that the common ground Rick and the Governor had was they wanted Andrea to get the hell outta the room.
That was the best walk of shame ever.
Yeah, I think she is not long for this show.
Her loser face is the best. Wears a hell of a thong though.
I half expected the Guvna to tell her to get back to the kitchen and make him a sandwich
Beth firing that gun was completely random.
Have they just given up trying to fix the front yard/gate and letting all the walkers in? I would think I’d want to at least try and do something or act like I wanted to do something to fix that. I’m sure they could rig up something that would keep walkers out but let them in. I’d at least stab a few through the fence every now and then.
They haven’t been real clear about the passage of time. Given everything that is going on fixing the front gate is probably low on the priority list.
I was thinking the same thing. Would it really be that difficult/dangerous to go down to the fenceline with a sharp piece of metal and clear out some of the zombies piling up there? Seems like a job for Carol….
seriously, they cleared the yard once, why can’t they do it again?
I’d rather save my ammo for the living people that are getting ready to kill my group, rather than the walkers meandering about outside of the fence.
They used very little ammo the first time they cleared the yard. That was all in-your-face melee action.
Every time I see “clear the yard” I think “Stomp the Yard” and I picture a hip teen dance crew killing zombies with just their sick dance moves, but ultimately being dragged down and devoured by walkers. Yeah, I’m weird.
It’s okay. I wish Stomp the Yard would have ended that way.
I hope the Governor doesn’t die by season’s end. Am I the only one that actually likes him despite being a creep, which makes him the perfect villain?
its nice to have an antagonist on the show. Something Season 2 seriously lacked( Shane nonwithstanding).
Shane was part of the group which makes it different in my eye. It has been nice to have somebody else other then zombies be the bad guy.
He honestly has the potential to be a really strong character, but the most ambitious that the writers ever get on this series is ‘competently written,’ unfortunately. And sometimes not even that. (Some season 3 exceptions on that, but I won’t say anything definitive on that until the season’s done and I’ve seen it all.)
Shane was definitely the main antagonist of the second season, and they did a decent job with that, though I’m still not won over on whether this should have antagonists at all.
I detest him since he is the villain. Many other shows have villains that you empathize with to some degree. This guy seems to be plain evil.
I think the Governor will hang on for another half season before getting killed off. It’d be a tragedy if he dies at the finale.
The one thing that’s been bothering me for a while came into play again last night. As Lori so clearly proved, getting pregnant in a apocalyptic zombie world is most likely a one way trip to the morgue. So why the hell are all these characters so willing to have sex without condoms? Good job Glenn…nothing shows Maggie how much you love her like rolling the dice on potentially killing her with your dick.
He totally pulled out, they just cut away before that part.
^this. We live in a pre-apoctolyptic world and we ladies like to lock that shit up till we’re ready. Thinking about getting preggo now, let alone in zombie prison hell, gives me the sweats.
he finished in her butt.
Maybe Maggie snagged all of those “morning after” pills that Lori had.
It seems like rick is constantly coming down from being on meth or something. He’s always staring into the distance and muttering his words. It may be in line with the whole “he’s going crazy” thing, but it doesn’t exactly make for an interesting protagonist.
Plus, he always seems really sweaty. Do they actually drive, or do they just run everywhere?
Totally unrelated, but can we have weekly recap/gifs of Bob’s Burgers? They’re killing it this season, and last night episode was absolutely fantastic, and I still have that Eddison/Topsy love song stuck in my head!
No love? Ok guys, WHAT-EVAH! Forever alone.
I’d concur with you if I wasn’t two seasons behind, JR. Only the first season is on netflix, unfortunately.
Yeah I don’t know why there’s only 1 on Netflix–it was driving me insane waiting as long as I did for season 3 of Archer, God knows how long till more Bob’s
I don’t think a recap goes by without a shoutout for Bob’s Burgers recaps. I suggested a Fox Sunday Animation recap each Monday. Mainly for Bob’s Burgers and American Dad gifs.
Sunday’s Bob’s Burgers was excellent, mainly cuz Teddy got plenty of screentime.
So does the Governor have surveillance on the Prison or on Morgan’s little town or was somebody trailing them? He said he saw the stash they brought back. Does the Governor now try and get the rest of the guns and ammo if he knows where the group got it from?
I think he was talking about the firepower they brought with them when they attacked Woodbury, was he not ?
Yeah, it sounds like the Gov. has eyes on the prison, which may not be the best thing to reveal to your sworn mortal enemy.
I got that impression too, but the fact that Rick never even acknowledged it made me think it was unintentional. I feel like you can’t drop something like that and then just not have anyone respond to it, let alone your lead, if you’re trying to imply it.
@DeadMeat Seeing as how the Gov. demonstarated such an intimate knowledge of Rick all episode(Thanks Andrea), Rick shouldn’t have been surprised that Gov. has spies keeping tabs on the prison.
I would like to think that The Governor would try and make a play for Morgan and having it go horribly wrong.
@John Chimpo – Well I mean that’s fine, but I mean they didn’t bring it up again, and they didn’t emphasize it at all on the filmmaking end at all either–I don’t know, I just feel like that’s a big deal to just sort of gloss over
Did Tyreese tell him the back door to the prison?
Think the Governor just saw him bringing the guns back to the prison and doesn’t know where he got them from. But it would be interesting if he did know where Morgan and the guns were. Maybe Morgan would be taken prisoner by the Governor and used as a trade chip for Michonne or something.
I think they’re talking about Mayberry, but, a few episodes ago they implied the governor has scouts. So maybe Rick, Carl and Michonne was spotted by the Governor’s scouts? It’s not like they are that far away from each other.
I think the Governor has Tyreese’s group doing the spying for him. Would explain why we haven’t seen them since joing Woodbury.
Well actually they needed to make Michonne a more thoughtful and likeable character from day one, instead of being a big waste of space for half a season until they actually need her to serve a purpose.
Also, I’m sad to see Andrea back to being a bad character–she was great for the first half of the season.
Also, did the whole set up for this episode feel forced to anyone else? These two guys just amicably decided to get together and talk because Andrea asked them nicely? Not to mention a meeting between Rick and the Governor feels like it should have been built to, not just thrown at us.
I feel like they pulled off a little development of her in the first half, not enough to justify waiting until right before this episode before including the whole ‘interacting with other people’ part of that development, though. And I am worried about Andrea being problematic after fairly liking her in the first half of the season.
yeah, i didn’t like how the meeting came together. was so out of the blue. however, i think they pulled it off well.
I think Andrea lied to both of them. Probably told the Governor that Rick is going to surrender, and told Rick the Gov wants to accept his terms of splitting East/West of the river.
Yeah I got the feeling Andrea like…got what was going on in the first half in terms of self preservation, but now her whole “why can’t we all just get along” thing is pretty bad
The episode really highlighted how bad dialogue is on this show compared to other great dramas. Instead of a great chess game between the two it’s insults from Rick and a dead wife sob-story from The Governor.
Yeah they really need to stop telling “before all this” stories on this show–it’s just always really bad. Need I remind everyone of the 15 minute conversation between Andrea and her sister about their father’s approach to teaching them how to fish, which might be the worst thing I’ve ever seen on scripted television
What show is this where Andrea was a great character for any part of any season?
These sob stories are idiotic. This is a post apocalyptic world these characters are living in. Everyone has lost someone they cared about.
When Glen was out on watch alone, I was hoping that Merle would come out and go into the yard by himself to kill a few walkers. A “might as well do something” kind of thing.
I could so see that as a deleted scene.
I’m shocked that he hasn’t
Looking at zombies makes Glen SO horny.
I heard Asian’s have pretty obscure sexual fetishes. I’m just glad Maggie didn’t catch him jerking off to zombies.
@poonTASTIC You are killing it today. Leave work/school/etc early and get stoned…you deserve it guy
What the walkers don’t have tentacles? 2 / 10, would not bang.
Is Caesar the brother of the detective on Castle?
I made that joke down futher in the comments
I didn’t know anyone else here watched it.
Sorry, I must have missed it. Hard to keep up with these comments.
Rick badge!!!
I got a *rock!* And a Carl badge. Not sure which is worse.
Hershel badge…hey at least he can drive a car with one leg
GAH! Andrea badge. It’s the Britta of Walking Dead badges.
T-Dawg!!! And it came from when i talked about menthol cigarettes below!!! DOUBLE WIN!!!
NOOOOO, Andre badge too!! Kill it! Kill it with fire!
Lori badge. Fan-fucking-tastic. .
Who will Carl kill?
#wwck
I hope it’s Andrea.
I just don’t want it to have stopped with his mom.
As awful as the comics are, I would honestly like for the show to keep going in the ‘Carl becomes a sociopath due to the trauma of growing up in such an environment’ arc, rather than keep backing off. I doubt it would be done as well as Arya’s arc, obviously, but at least it’d be another interesting story.
I’ll put my money on Carl killing Martinez, just as Martinez is about to kill Rick.
It seems they’re limited in Carl’s growth by how shitty an actor the kid is.
if we learned anything from sunday night tv, Carl’s are sociopaths. See Carl from Shameless for why: trying to kill his cousin (played by Justified’s Hunter) by putting rat poison in his sandwich.
Vega: I thought the actor, I don’t recall his name, Chandler something, I think, did perfectly well with Lori’s final scene back in Killer Within, which was also without a doubt Sarah Callies’ best acting on the show.
Part of me feels like Carl winds up whacking somebody important, like Merle.
At the end of it all, I have the feeling Carl will grow up to be what the Governor thinks he is. That is, if the comic goes on forever.
@ Board I don’t know, I may have to rewatch that episode, but every week he has a lot of screen time it’s clear how stilted his dialogue is and he doesn’t act natural.
That felt kind of intentional to me, but I certainly can’t deny that what you’re saying is certainly accurate. I would probably have much less tolerance for him if I was watching Game of Thrones or Mad Men in the same time interval as this show. God, the child-actor casting for GoT has been marvelous, and Kiernan Shipka is great. Sorry, I’m sure all of that sounds really old, but I’m new here.
I’m sorry but Chandler Riggs has fucking killed it this season. I’ve done a complete 180 of that kid since last year.
I thought it was a good episode, it developed the characters more, made them feel more human and I loved the structure of it, of little groups of people talking and trying to figure shit out. That’s the part of the walking dead or zombie apocalypse genre that I like the most, what do people do besides kill zombies, how do they rebuild?
Someone posting on AV club made a good point about the little groups.
“OK everyone, please partner up with your evil counterpart on the other team and wander off a bit to chat. We’ll reconvene for coffee at 3.”
Bros before Zos.
Honestly, I could’ve watched The Governor and Rick talk all episode and it would have been awesome. Maybe a little Quentin Tarantino-esque but still okay in my books.
It still weirds me out that the Governor doesn’t seem to be in pain from his missing eye – it only happened a few days ago, right, but it doesn’t smart at least a bit? This dang timeline is stupidly packed, like its suffering from Justified’s timline from season 4. Do these people ever sleep or just sit the eff down and chill for a few minutes before heading off to a new adventure?
Rick Grimes doesnt sleep, he waits.

I really would love the show taking the time to just present some downtime between plot developments, which it easily could’ve afforded with a 16 goddamn episode season. Seriously, I think it could work better if there was more of an episodic quality to it. At least they’re finally learning to have a sense of humour.
I mean, I’m NOT asking for another meandering forest/farm season bc that just about killed my resolve to see zombies faces being blown apart, but I’m just asking for a little bit of realism in the timeline. I guess this is more a critique of Justified bc I really still cannot wrap my head around the 6-7 days they’re working on now.
I’m guessing the Whiskey does a lot to cure the eye pain.
Oh god, I’m not asking for the farm again either. I just really love the idea of conveying the everyday experience of survival in this world, like that idea someone had a while back about a bottle episode where the group just relaxes and plays cards or a board game. It would need more character dynamics bouncing off each other, but I think the writers are capable of doing that.
@board – agreed! They should totally hire us as time referees
So not more farm/woods, just more laundry, right?
Damn it, JR, I fear in my heart that that’s probably what would wind up happening. Thanks for spoiling that. And you’re so fun when Game of Thrones is involved. .
@jean-ralphio: maybe just a title card saying “a day later” at the beginning. Boom, its cheap and helps the audience “rest up” from the previous adventure. Not asking much, I’m easy.
Or they could convey time passage off-handedly and subtly, like in Breaking Bad, but that would probably be asking too much of this show. On that note, though, I don’t feel the limited time passage on BB is unrealistic at all. Haven’t seen any of Justified yet, either, so I can’t complain about that.
I think Milton will be the one to end the Governor’s tyranny. I also thought the Gov drugged Rick’s glass of whiskey somehow. During their talk, Rick seemed almost paralyzed.
Yeah, the “slaughter” conversation between him & Milton at the end seemed more than a little telling.
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that.
didn’t the preview for next weeks episode basically show that Milton tells Andrea to stop the governor?
and then begins the reign of the Miltocracy!
Milton’s office is already in the basement. It was only a matter of time before he sets the building on fire.
@Poon when the Gov. takes his stapler, its all over.
I could picture Andrea trying and failing, the Governor killing her and then Milton stepping up and doing it.
Figures that it will be Milton who turns on the Gov before Andrea does.
My money’s on Milton attempting to assassinate the Governor, failing, and getting himself killed. Andrea will probably finish the job (pissing off everyone on the internet).
All I could think to myself last night, after the Governor makes his proposition to Rick, was that Rick has to know it won’t work. He knows for a fact that this is a guy who basically raped one of his people, so what makes him think for a second that this guy would show any compassion or anything of that sort towards the rest of Rick’s people? It just bothered me that Rick would even think it could work, but I also feel that it shows that the trusting side of Rick truly hasn’t died, despite everything that has happened with “poisonous people” in the past.
Can Andrea die first?
Like, yesterday, please?
And with that, I get rid of the Andrea badge, yay!
The most unrealistic thing about this episode was how Maggie was moaning while having sex with an asian. #tinypenisjoke
She was on Talking Dead last night saying that Glen is a tripod (paraphrasing).
I have had no interest in the Talking Dead ever since Chris Hardwick called Andrea “smart”
I was mainly interested in seeing Maggie all doll’d up. She’s puurty.
Yeh that was cool seeing her outside of the show, nice accent too.
This is cable right, why haven’t we seen Maggie’s boobs yet ? If only this was on Starz or Showtime.
This might not start as bad a series as it did on AMC if it were on Starz or Showtime, but it would get so much worse than it has been or possibly could be, on those. Showtime is so much worse than AMC when it comes to meddling.
Yeah I caught about 5 minutes of Talking Dead and Hardwick said “Andrea is probably the most sane person right now” which is just a bold faced lie.
FYI: the actress that plays Maggie shows her boobs in Van Wilder 2, a quick google search should satisfy that curiosity.
Eliza Dushku on Talking Dead really took me by surprise. And then she actually seemed to know what she was talking about too. Does she actually follow this, or are they given talking points?
@kazoshay, thanks, you’re the man, respect.
@Doctor Professor, I think Dushku is a bit of a nerd IRL, not to a Felicia Day or even Summer Glau level, but still. Isn’t that like a prerequisite to work with Whedon?
