Steve Carell IS Returning For ‘The Office’ Series Finale

After months of that’s what he said, that’s what she said rumors, we now know definitively, or at least according to TV Line, that Steve Carell will reappear as Michael Scott during The Office‘s series finale next week.

On the heels of another carefully worded denial from exec producer Greg Daniels that The Office‘s May 16 series finale will not feature a return appearance by Steve Carell, TVLine has learned exclusively that the Dunder Mifflin legend will, in fact, turn up in the swan song.

According to sources, Carell’s return engagement qualifies as more of a cameo than a full-fledged guest appearance. (It’s unclear if Carell will be joined by Amy Ryan.) (Via)

It’s been an exhausting two-and-a-half years, ever since Carell announced that he’d be departing The Office after its seventh (and should have been final) season. There was Deangelo Vickers and Nellie Bertram and Dwight sometimes acting as the manager and Dwight sometimes not acting as the manager and “Search Committee” and Robert California and Andy turning into Poochie and The Office Gone Florida, which is a really long and convoluted way for the show to reveal that everyone and everything is just a figment of Creed’s imagination.

It’s been in front of us this entire time.
