Henry Cavill Almost Missed The Call That He’d Play Superman Because He Was Playing ‘World Of Warcraft’

Henry Cavill is pretty much living the life right now. He’s Superman. He’s a major heartthrob. And he sits around and plays video games all the time. His game of choice? World Of Warcraft.

So on the night Zack Snyder called him to say he’d be the star of Man Of Steel, Cavill ignored the call because he didn’t want to let the rest of his WoW team down. Now, before the cynicism in all of us take over and file this under “Comic Book Movie Star Talks About His Love Of Nerd Things For The Press Run,” I’ll take the naive route and think Cavell was being honest in his love of the game.

“I’m a big PC gamer, and I was playing an online game called World of Warcraft.”…I was playing this game, and you can’t save it. You can’t pause or anything, and other people are relying on you to play certain roles on a team. And it was a highpoint of the game. And so the phone’s ringing, and I’m ignoring it and ignoring it, because I’m not going to bail on these guys. And I look down and it’s Zack Snyder calling, so I dive for the phone, and I missed the call from Zack Snyder, the one I’d been waiting for, for Man Of Steel.”

Anyway, Cavill eventually got in touch with Snyder and the rest is history. We’ll have to wait a week to see if that was a good move or not.

Here are some other snippets from Cavill’s Leno interview, but the part about his gaming isn’t up yet because NBC is all YOLO. What we do have is a heartwarming story him and Russell Crowe and the story of his nephew wearing a Superman costume to school.
