Jon Stewart Handed ‘The Daily Show’ Off To John Oliver

Last night’s Daily Show was Jon Stewart’s last prior to his summer hiatus to direct Rosewater, the film adaptation of Maziar Bahari’s “Then They Came for Me” based on the journalist Bahari’s harrowing 118 days in Iranian captivity that shares a small link to The Daily Show itself.

The goodbye and hand off required a bit of delicacy, balancing information, earnestness, and humor. They of course pulled it off effortlessly. I’ve included the three pertinent clips below. First here’s the revisiting of Jason Jones’s “Behind the Veil” satire piece from 2009 that featured Bahari and was later used to accuse Bahari of working with spies.

Here’s Stewart’s goodbye and full explanation of all the events that led to the hiatus…

And finally, a Moment of Zen that’s less zen-filled and more GTFO it’s John Oliver time…

Good luck and see you soon, Mr. Stewart…
