Weekend Preview: The Best Episode Of Television Ever?

Breaking Bad (AMC, Sunday 9 p.m.) — If you consider Breaking Bad the greatest series of all time (and it’s definitely top five), and if — as Vince Gilligan has suggested — this week’s episode, “Ozymandias,” is the best of the series, will that make Sunday night’s episode the best episode of all time? We’ll see. It’s certainly going to be a major television event. If you want clues, here’s two images from “Ozymandias”, here’s the potential guest appearances, here’s that amazing Ozymandias trailer, and here’s Kevin Rankin talking about where the episode picks up (minor spoilers). If you want more Breaking Bad, here’s 25 callbacks from this season, and the greatest Breaking Bad theory in the history of the Internets. If you need to kill some time between now and Sunday night, you can watch this GIFset of Todd shooting Justin Bieber over and over for the next 48 hours.

Sunday Night Football (NBC, Sunday 8:20) — If you want to know what football game you’ll be missing for an hour in order to watch Breaking BAd, it’s the San Francisco 49ers vs. the Seattle Seahawks, unless you’re on the West Coast, where football season rarely conflicts with your primetime viewing schedule. Nope. Not jealous at all.

Dexter (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Ugh. After last week’s episode and the worst scene in the history of the show, I don’t know how it could possibly get worse. Leave to these guys to figure it out. If you’ve seen previews for this weekend’s episode, you also know that the ending that’s leaked around the internets, is probably right (SPOILERS).

Boardwalk Empire (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Solid, table-setting first episode, although Boardwalk is one of those shows that works really well for binge viewing, so no one will hold it against you if you wait until Breaking Bad ends to catch up.

Newsroom (HBO, Sunday 10 p.m.) — SEASON FINALE. Two cast members have said there will be a third season, but the deal is not official, and some are suggesting that Sorkin doesn’t want to do a third season. That’s too bad, because this season ironed out most of the issues with the first season, enough so to put Newsroom ahead of A Few Good Men on the list of Sorkin’s best projects.

White Queen (Starz, Saturday 9 p.m.) — Has anyone watched this drama? I heard it was OK, but dense. I just don’t think that Starz has figured out how to promote their shows yet. They’ve had some pretty decent shows: Party Down was amazing, I liked Boss, and I heard decent things about Magic City. So far, it seems, Spartacus is the only one that’s really caught on.

Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC, Friday 10 p.m.) — Casey Wilson will be on tonight’s episode.
