What’s On Tonight: The Best New Family Sitcom Of The Fall

Trophy Wife (ABC, 9:30) — My colleague over on Pajiba explained why Trophy Wife is the best new family sitcom of the fall, and I absolutely agree. Granted, the competition (Sean Saves the World, Welcome to the Family, Back in the Game, Mom, The Millers and The Michael J. Fox Show) hasn’t exactly been stellar, but The Trophy Wife is nevertheless adorable.

The Goldbergs (ABC, 9 p.m.) — And yes, it has even surpassed The Goldbergs, which was one of my favorite pilots of the fall. I still like the show OK. It manages to land the sweet moments (and last week’s Jake Ryan homage was a winner), but the comedy is less than great.

The X-Factor (Fox, 8 p.m.) — I had assumed that Fox was preempting its Tuesday night sitcom block because of the World Series, but there’s no game tonight. Turns out, it’s for a singing competition. Boo.

Sons of Anarchy (FX, 10 p.m.) — So, tonight, Jax is presumably going to cut ties with Gemma, and Gemma is going to go ballistic. I cannot wait. Also, Tara should assign Venus Van Dam as guardian in her living will. It’s a helluva better choice than Wendy. UGH. Wendy.

Snooki & Jwoww (MTV, 10 p.m.) — These people are still on TV?

LATE NIGHT LISTINGS: Rob Lowe is on Dave, Leno has Mark Cuban, Jennifer Garner is on Kimmel (I bet a fun viral video comes out of that visit), Alyssa Milano is doing Ferguson, Fallon has Kate Bosworth, and Ender’s Game star Asa Butterfield is on Conan.
