Kevin Spacey Gave Woody Allen A Netflix Subscription

Kevin Spacey has accomplished a lot in his career — from walking with a limp to not walking with a limp, and oh yeah, K-PAX — but he’s never been in a Woody Allen film, something he’d really like to do. In an interview with GQ, the House of Cards star said that if an “actor wants a role or wants to work with somebody, then you do everything within reason to try to get that role,” which is why he gave Allen his very first Netflix subscription.

“I wrote him a letter,” Spacey explains, “and introduced myself as an actor he may or may not know. And I sent him a Netflix subscription, because I want him to watch my work.”

Happily, Spacey says, this letter met with a positive response—”an absolutely wonderful letter” is how he describes Allen’s reply—in which Allen has let him know that he is “in contention for things in the future,” and also took the time to thank Spacey for the Netflix subscription. (Via)

The gesture’s nice, but isn’t someone on a Netflix show giving away a Netflix subscription kind of like a Target employee offering a Target mug as a present? You’re the President of Space — try spending more than $0 on your next gift (although I do like the visual of Woody Allen watching Antz on Netflix Instant at 2 a.m.)
