Stephen Colbert hopped into his steam powered jalopy to spread some Christmas cheer on The Late Show, but dropped a bombshell on the audience in the process. It seems that Peter Jackson invited Colbert and family to New Zealand to film a super-secret cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
It is no surprise really, considering Colbert’s past Tolkien experiences, that he’d land himself a sweet role in The Hobbit. The only catch is that Colbert doesn’t reveal exactly where his cameo will be taking place. I’m assuming he will be the only one wearing a tie during the entire scene, clutching an eagle’s talon.
The real shame is that Colbert won’t get to put his pointy, elf-like ear to good use alongside Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly. Although he is right, you will look at him a bit differently after you see it and find out why it is so pointy.
Oh he’s also dressed as a London beggar/chimney sweep/ vagabond early on in the interview, so we got that going for us. I’m sure there will be more to cover from this interview, but enjoy this small tidbit for now.
