A Local News Anchor With Breast Cancer Tearfully Removed Her Wig On Live TV

In February 2012, Pam McKelvy, an anchor for WMC in Memphis, Tennessee, went public with the unfortunate news that she had breast cancer. Since then, McKelvy has gone on a mission to “encourage other women to not be afraid of getting a mammogram,” she said in an article from last year. McKelvy also said that going through chemo was challenging, and that she “suffered from extreme fatigue, bone pain, and lost her hair,” which is why she’s been wearing a wig on air since last March. No longer, though: during Wednesday’s broadcast, she removed her wig to reveal her natural hair growing back strong.

It was a nice, inspiring moment. Local news doesn’t get many of those.
