Guess Which State Cut Out The Only Reference To Evolution In 'Cosmos'

While you’re still trying to wrap your mind around, like, the complexities of this beautiful bitch of an existence we call life, MAN, thanks to Cosmos, be glad that don’t you live in Oklahoma City (and if you do live in Oklahoma City, be glad you don’t live in Florida, America’s Jerry/Gary/Larry). That’s because, according to Raw Story, the only reference to evolution in the entire special was removed by Fox affiliate KOKH-TV.

It wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the show that host Neil deGrasse Tyson hinted at human evolution.

“We are newcomers to the Cosmos…Our own story only begins on the last night of the cosmic year…Three and a half million years ago, our ancestors — your and mine left these traces,” Tyson said, pointing to footprints. “We stood up and parted ways from them. Once we were standing on two feet, our eyes were no longer fixated on the ground. Now, we were free to look up and wonder.”

But for viewers of KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City, that 15 second paragraph was replaced by an awkwardly-inserted commercial for the evening news. The edit was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube by Adam Bates. (Via)

That sounds bad, but Oklahoma is making progress; they finally screened the 2001 classic Evolution last week.
