Normally I’d offer up an intro to this parody of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” from our friends over at Funny or Die featuring Kat Graham and Kali Hawk (Who are both black and Jewish, I think), but I’m just going to stand back and get out of the way of this one. Just stop whatever you’re doing and enjoy this. Now.

“Funny or Die”? Beyond stupid. Does not liking this trash make you an Anti-Semitic racist?
As a Black Jew, it’s valuable for me to see other Jews of African descent. The song is also very funny in terms of it’s ability to play on stereotypes of both groups simultaneously.
With that said, it racial satire. Racial satire is not always bad – in fact it is often very good. This, I think, is very good – but certainly plays on stereotypes about both groups. It does, however, provide comfort for those of us living with feet in two communities, searching for the answer to the ultimate question: “how do i manage to navigate the multiple worlds in which I exist in?” (e.g, black, Jewish, black-Jewish, male, black male, Jewish male, black-Jewish-male, and in some ways highly salient – black lawyer, Jewish lawyer, black-Jewish lawyer)
So long as we understand the construction of the stereotypes involved and reject their existence as a function of nature, while at the same time understanding the importance of these sorts of social commentaries to those with intersectional identities (e.g., Black Jewish women), then I think we can enjoy it and critically analyze it at the same time.
