Remember Daniel Edwards, the demented sculptor who dropped a statue of Britney Spears giving birth on humanity a few years ago? Well he’s still out there, doing his thing, hilariously, and his latest project is a “tribute” to the Justin Bieber/Selena Gomez coupling titled, “Justin and Selena as One” — a bronze statue depicting Beiber and Gomez nude with nothing but a maple leaf (Canada!) and a lone star (Texas!) covering their oh-so-young genitals. And it’s headed to Dallas, near Gomez’s hometown, where it will be installed at what a local paper describes as an “area adult store chain.”
Martin Puentes, manager of two New Fine Arts locations in the Dallas area confirms to DC9 today that the statue is headed the way of the area adult store chain’s West Northwest Highway location. Far as we can tell, it’s the first planned display of the piece.
“[Edwards] contacted us about it,” Puentes says. “We kept making sure he knew what we were — that we’re not an art gallery. But he said he wanted to put it in an adult store.” … “His art looks pretty cool,” Puentes says. “I mean, it’s pretty out there. But I like it!”
Oh boy wait until Rick Perry hears about this!
Meanwhile, via WWTDD, here is the full statue in all of its glory. I was hesitant to view it earlier because I thought it’d make me feel like a pedophile, but it’s actually quite hysterical to look at.
