McFly’s Closet: Nike Is Delivering The Future With Mags

Since I feel uncomfortable purchasing more than two pairs of shoes a year I take my sneaker tips from my boy Endswell at The High Definite who posted this last night:

Great. F*cking. Scott. Last year, word got out that legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield and company filed a patent for an Automatic Lacing System similar to the technology featured on the “Marty McFly” Nike Air Mags in Back To The Future II. Since then, fanboys and sneakerheads alike have been speculating that Nike was working on a real-life version of the Air Mags. Speculate no more, because those sh*ts are coming.

Important people in media and fashion received calls from Nike last night inviting them to a super duper secret special event in L.A. hosted by Tinker Hatfield. Then shortly after YouTube user DocEmmetBrown88 (presumably not the same guy shilling crappy electronics in Argentina) uploaded the above teaser video of shelf after shelf of Marty McFly’s 2015 auto-lace Nike Mags set to that wind chime orchestra that instantly transports me back to watching Back to the Future over and over as a kid.

Moral of the story so far: Nike looks to be doing their part to make the world Back to the Future II compliant by 2015. I’m thinking they’ll tackle hoverboards in 2012 and hopefully by 2013 Detroit will have their sh*t together and cars will start flying. Who’s kidding who? Japan needs to take the reigns on that one.
