32-Year-Old Man Has Conversation With 12-Year-Old Self

Written by Josh Kurp / 07.06.12

Twenty years ago, when he was but a precocious 12-year-old boy, a filmmaker named Jeremiah McDonald recorded himself having a one-sided conversation about “talking to myself to my future.” McDonald, who’s now 32, held onto that tape for the past two decades and got his wish: cutting back and forth between the past and the future, Old McDonald (sorry) chats with Young McDonald about their appearances, the fate of their pets (all dead), the Internet, and the best Doctor Who episode ever, “Blink.”

When I was 12 years old, I was collecting Pokémon cards and definitely NOT listening to Limp Bizkit (…), so I’m in awe of how imaginative McDonald was and is. And nearly 1.1 million people, which is how many times the video has already been watched, must feel the same way.
