Let’s face it — the Daniel Tosh rape joke controversy is diving us as a nation. What we need right now — and what Daniel Tosh REALLY needs right now — is a change of subject, perhaps a new animated series to make people laugh and stop arguing over a horrible thing like rape.
WELL LOOKIE HERE — the pilot episode of Tosh’s new animated series, Brickleberry, is set to debut at Comic-Con tonight. What’s it about? Well, according to someone who has seen it, “most of the pilot is about rape.” Uh-oh.
Reports Rumor Fix:
RumorFix has learned exclusively that producers and editors are scrambling to take out any reference to rape in the pilot episode of Daniel Tosh’s new animated series, Brickleberry.
Production sources tell RumorFix that Tosh has given them just over 24 hours to make the changes — because the series is scheduled to be shown at Comic-Con in San Diego Friday night.
“Everyone is freaking out, because most of the pilot is about rape,” our source says.
Um, yeah. Good luck with that.
In other Daniel Tosh rape joke news, I’m pretty sure that the best response to the controversy was this piece from The Onion titled, “Daniel Tosh Chuckles Through Own Violent Rape.”
HOLLYWOOD, CA—Embroiled in controversy following comments he made during a recent performance at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, comedian Daniel Tosh chuckled this afternoon while being violently raped by a group of men in a Hollywood alley. “You have to admit, this is pretty hilarious,” said the teary-eyed 37-year-old, his bloodied face slamming against a brick wall as he was brutally and repeatedly penetrated against his will for the 53rd straight minute.
Seriously, go read the whole thing here. It’s perfect.

They need to just air it. And after the critics are done with them they can go home and spend hours in the shower scrubbing themselves clean.
Lol it’s just a fucking joke
So, while I think rape jokes can be done properly such that they are actually funny, and while I think that no topic should be off-limits for humor because oftentimes it is humor that gets us through the darkest places, this pilot needs to be scrapped.
Daniel Tosh is not observant, creative, or, frankly, funny enough to bring some humor to a terrible act. I imagine this pilot, like most of his “offensive” jokes, basically portrays sexual assault straight up and simply expects the audience to laugh at it by virtue of it being “shocking” or whatever. Saying something shocking or offensive for the sake of it isn’t funny. There needs to be an actual observation or punchline to go with it.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen it. I hope to be proven wrong.
Jokes about horrible things need to contain subversive elements to work. Period.
Actually, UPROXX fave Louis CK is very funny when he says something shocking and offensive for the sake of it. However. When he does it, it’s not an entire bit, but a random insert into an otherwise non-connected anecdote. The audience knows he’s not even remotely being serious (as he often confesses immediately afterward), and he doesn’t attempt to assert the hilarity repeatedly. There’s even a subtle misbehaving little boy flavor to it as he seems to be taking a minute to amuse himself by being naughty via the audience’s collective gasps. It’s true he’s quoted as defending Tosh’s unfunny comments, but if it weren’t for freedom of speech, he’d just be Lou, the clever ginger guy ringing you up at Target.
Completely unrelated: anyone including “lol” in a comment post should be thrown in the solitary cell of the children’s abused internet cliche jail housing throwbacks who still utter “full of fail” and “nom nom nom.”
As someone who’s friend was raped, I can tell you it’s not funny. Traumatic experiences should never be made into something to laugh at. And Tosh is a bad comedian anyway.
That sucks to for your friend, but there’s no way I’m taking “super rape” off the table. [www.collegehumor.com]
Thought this was relevant. From one of the comedian’s there (adds more context):

I’m not a fan of Tosh, because frankly he sucks. But having said that, fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke.
I’m glad we live in a society where comedians are afraid to tell certain jokes. We need more Jay Lenos in comedy!
