Just when you thought it was impossible to love Bill Nye, the Science Guy any more, his continued aggressive calling out of the morons of the world of late is positively swoonworthy. As you may recall, he took a rhetorical dump down the throat of a moronic CNN anchor a few weeks ago after she asked him to defend himself against charges of being “kooky” because he has the nerve to believe in science. And now, via the Daily What, he’s apparently released a video imploring all the anti-science dullards out there not to pass on their lunacy to the next generation.
“If you wanna deny evolution and live in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that’s fine,” Nye says in the video. “But don’t make your kids do it. We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future.”
Keep fightin’ the good fight, Science Guy!

Good for Bill! It’s time for all the sane, rational, logical people of this world to quit playing nice, and avoiding hurting people’s feelings. Religion holds people back, and is literally insane.
ps. He said “we need scientifically literate voters…” literate, not literally.
Ah good catch. Thanks for pointing out, AB.
Good call AB. Religion holds people back like when they start hospitals (most of the ones in this country) or universities (Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, etc.) or fund orphanages for children with AIDS in India because the government won’t. I hate religion for holding people back as much as I hate people who make generalizations based on a single facet of a complex issue.
Seriously, if you have a problem with religion, fine. But to lump only sane, rational, logical people into a camp of those who are against religion is very ignorant of some very talented people who also happen to follow a religion.
Also, as for Bill’s prediction that religion will be gone in a couple hundred years, that has been said time and time again. Remember the first time scientists “killed” God. Nietzsche did it back in 1882. After 130 years it makes you wonder how long the “sane, rational, logical people of this world” will keep saying God is going away in a “couple hundred years.”
One more thing. Einstein’s definition of insanity is to continuing to do the same thing and expected different results. Who fits that definition better? Those who have been trying to get rid of religion for millenia without success or those who continue to say religion has value in our lives?
@Teadude I’m pretty sure he’s not saying that religion will be gone in a couple of centuries, he’s saying that the people who don’t believe in evolution will be gone in a couple of centuries. There are religious people who know that evolution exists.
@teadude:
I really love how you just casually throw together thousands of years of human history as “evidence” that religion is here to stay, because certainly the unparalleled rapid advancement in science over just the past two centuries has absolutely nothing to do with enlightening people huh?
Because if you couldn’t make 2000 BC egyptians stop believing in their gods, you can’t educate 2000 AD populations either, because that’s absolutely the same thing under the absolute same circumstances.
More noteworthy is that Christianity has continually lost power over the centuries and the one religion that’s actually booming, Islam, is suspiciously popular with the uneducated masses of third world countries. Surely just a coincidence.
But yeah, we totally need God and religion, because charity and morals and ethics wouldn’t exist without the believe in a man in the sky. Good argument.
By the way, if we are just going to gloss over things about religion, like you did with all of the bad things, I will gloss over the good things and only highlight the bad. Religion has persecuted millions of people, killed millions of people, and kept people intellectually shackled. Man, don’t we both look stupid?
Maybe at one point, and I’m not taking the time to confirm or deny whether it’s true, religion helped build our most prestigious hospitals and colleges, but those days are long gone. These days, religion gives us Bob Jones and Liberty University, as well as hospitals who hide behind their false beliefs in order to deny important treatments to women. Religion has had its place in advancing our society; we’ve now advanced beyond religion, and it’s an anchor that is holding us back.
@ teadude Do we really need to bring up the classic “The Earth is Flat” idiocy? It is the same concept that is happening today with evolution. Creationism is absurd and as stupid as believing in Santa Claus literally.
Some religious people just can’t let go. But eventually, like most religious people these days accept the earth is NOT flat, they will eventually evolutionary theory. At least nowadays they can’t condemn someone to house arrest like they did poor Galileo.
