Hey, remember all those replacement referees for the NFL, and the wonderful job that they did? Since they left, we’ve been sorely lacking a sports entity to make fun of on Twitter.
After last night’s Braves/Cardinals game, where an umpire demonstrated that literally nobody in Major League Baseball understands the in-field fly rule… well, let’s just say the only winner was Twitter. To wit:
Fans in Atlanta threw with more accuracy than the Braves fielders did.

I watch the baseball for my team the Atlanta. They look like they lose. Still respect for them

Atlanta fans are soft. Finish your beer before you throw it on the field. #bearealfan

Let the Mighty Chipper’s last game be one of Atlanta shame.

Source told me Atlanta fans are now throwing their unused regular-season tickets onto the field.

If Atlanta fans really wanted to do something offensive to voice their anger, they should have just done the Tomahawk Chop

There’s so much trash on the field in Atlanta. And also in the stands.

Needless to say, Philadelphia still holds the crown for sports douchebaggery, but it’s nice to see Atlanta making a respectable run at the title.

I understand the anger, but they were mad. Why does the rest of the world’s sports fans get to vent their frustration but US fans are supposed to be above that? Yes, it was the wrong move by the fans, but would you imagine what would have happened if this happened in Boston or New York? Twitter allows people to feel superior, or that their opinion means anything other than a couple 1s and 0s, so it amplifies smugness and hollow superiority above all else…trust me, I have one myself and this post is proof.
Also, it was a bad call. Baseball isn’t supposed to be dogmatic like football. It’s supposed to be based on rationality and common sense. The infield fly rule is supposed to protect the runners, not the defense. The Braves should have lost that game anyways, but not like that.
I love how ESPN barely cares about this. If this happened in Philly it would be the top story for two weeks, lol.
Also, the throw-up douche was a retarded drunk college student from the Jersey Shore. Yea, fuck Jersey!!!!
I understand the Braves fans’ frustration.
They are so used to seeing them lose THREE games before getting bounced from the playoffs in the first round.
