In the mid-2000s, when she was evolving into the great Cat Power, Chan Marshall would occasionally have a — to put it nicely — mini-breakdown at her concerts. To phrase it less delicately, she had issues with self-proclaimed, since-resolved alcohol dependency and suffered from mental exhaustion that would lead to hostile and rambling comments directed towards no one, yet everyone at her live shows.
Clearly, Chan’s doing better now: earlier this year, she put out the very good Sun and she also starred in a Funny or Die sketch, in which she spoofs her public image by acting cantankerous while performing songs for young kids. Yeah…”acting.”
